Oh! I suddenly realized I have no idea if you're watching Game of Thrones or not, or if that's even your kind of thing... the icon's from that. His name is Theon Greyjoy, and he gets a lot of hate from the fandom for some pretty bad things he does when he is... just wanting to fit in where he thinks he's supposed to belong. It's really sad. And rewatching Thor on Saturday made me see a lot of parallels between his situation and Loki's. They're not exactly alike, but enough so that my sympathy for Theon translated into lots more sympathy for Loki this time around.

OH

Yeah, I don't. Obviously, I love the attention it's bought to Sean Bean, Mark Addy and especially Peter Dinklage who I've loved since The Station Agent in college but...

I couldn't get into it; too many plots, too much sex, too much people doing mean things to each other and the dialogue wasn't impressive either.

Wow, I can definitely see the parallels. Actually, I've been thinking a lot lately about POTC, especially AWE, and Avengers. Despite Norrington, I was really looking forward to AWE and now despite knowledge, I'm really looking forward to Avengers but the reviews are much better than AWE were and it's Joss who I trust a LOT more than Gore.

I have also heard the death is handled a lot better which will make it a lot easier. I hated how in AWE and also OST, you have these characters that fans have loved through multiple movies but you kill them off in a stupid way and then act like they never existed.

I had no idea who Mark Addy or Peter Dinklage were before I started watching... and now I think they're both fantastic. Mark Addy almost manages to make me sympathize with his character for .5 seconds every once in a while, which is kind of amazing considering how much I detest him. And Peter... wow. I think you could take a room full of GoT fans who were all having screaming matches with each other about interpretations of characters and the books versus the show and all of the other things fans argue about... and one of the things that would make EVERYONE nod in agreement would be someone standing up on a chair and saying, "Hey Guys! HOW GOOD IS PETER DINKLAGE AS TYRION?" And EVERYONE would stop arguing for a second and be like... "Really frickin' good..."

Re: Death in the Avengers

You knew about James before you saw AWE? I almost think you're lucky, there... I went in not knowing. Same thing with Groves and Gillette in OST. I had no idea what was coming. I'm trying to decide if that's was a blessing or a curse. I... think it was good I didn't know. I might not have gone to see either movie AT ALL if I'd known going in, and that would have been sad because there are parts of both of them that are really fun despite all of the stupidly handled death. (And stupidly handled other stuff.)

I've... heard that someone is going to die in the Avengers... but I haven't heard WHO. But like you... I trust Joss. As many characters as he's killed off in Buffy, I felt like their deaths were always... respectful, if that's the right word. Acknowledged by the characters and the show in an appropriate (if heart-wrenching) way.

Okay, you NEED to see The Full Monty and The Station Agent. They are my favorite films from Mark Addy and Peter Dinklage and they really get to show their range as well as both having awesome casts in general and excellent writing.

I should probably start at the beginning.
April 1999
I read the junior novelization for Star Wars: Episode One. I wrestled with not telling my mom about QuiGon but we both loved the character so much already that I felt I should. I told her before we went to the movie that he would die and how. Afterwards, she thanked me for preparing her.

A couple weeks after DMC came out in July 2006, an early script was leaked for AWE. It had James dying but this wasn't confirmed for me until January 2007. This time, I didn't tell my mom specifics but she said she knew when it was coming because I started squirming a LOT. In the case of James, she said she almost wanted to just get it over with since it would be so unpleasant.

I know who and by who and possibly how with a general idea of when. You know, everyone always associates Joss with death like you're a moron if you didn't think he was going to kill someone off but I have never associated Joss that way. Not all my favorite characters were killed off or if they were, they were bought back in some way...usually. He also lets characters actually mourn characters and still remember them years later...

*sorry I'm still pissed at Russell T Davies and others who are good at killing people off but not in effective ways*
