I know, I know. You think he sold out or they're greedy or a number of different things that we all heard back in 2009 when Disney bought Marvel.

I think most of us have been pleased at how Disney has treated Marvel and unlike Marvel, Lucasfilm is hugely successful without any doubts as to its future. Heck, ILM alone is probably worth one of those billions they spent for it.

George Lucas is getting old and, like Jim Henson before him, has a good working relationship with Disney. The whole company already had a good working relationship with Disney, including lots of contracts and licensing that Disney will no longer have to pay except for licenses and fees involving actor likenesses...I've always wondered whether that was what stopped us from having Obi-Wan and Han Solo at Star Wars Weekends.

Basically, keep Dave Filoni and I'm a happy camper. Create a night on ABC where I can watch the Star Wars sitcom that Seth Green keeps talking about followed by the SHIELD show and I'm the happiest girl in the whole freaking world.

There is one thing I'm a bit sad about...

It's been implied that this is probably the next to last season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network and this seems to confirm it. Disney doesn't like other people playing with its toys, like Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Wolverine and the X-Men and the Super Hero Squad Show, all of which only lasted a season or two because they were on a different network when Disney bought Marvel.

I know everyone says the next movie will be Episode VII but it's a HUGE universe so I'm not expecting the old gang to be back and I'm okay with that. Actually, I think I'm more excited about the possibilities for Indiana Jones, Willow and Labyrinth which are all Lucasfilm properties also.

Shit, ... Labyrinth is/was owned by Lucasfilms which is now owned by Disney?

Oh HELL NO - they better not try to remake that film I just ... *walks away ranting & raving*

Point being - they better not touch my cult classic / fav. movie ever or 'There Will be Blood'. >..>

I wasn't thinking remake.

I was thinking about books or other ways of exploring that universe which I think could be a lot of fun or at the very least, more merchandise options. You will admit Labyrinth has slim merchandise offerings?

I think a plush Hoggle would be awesome.

They can market the shit out of the film, the more exposure the better but the second they try to add another film or mess with what's already a good thing - I'll decry it.

I just put up my own post about this. I'm "wait and see" overall, but I am excited that there's going to be new Star Wars movies. I was worried about Clone Wars, and now I'm sad that it might be over. Then again, a part of me knew they couldn't do that show forever.

I am comforted by the fact that they've done so well with Marvel, but as with any deal this big there's bound to be a few hiccups. To para-quote my post, DON'T FUCK THIS UP, DISNEY!

My first thought about it was that Disney are one of the few companies with enough clout to tell Lucas when his ideas stink. Which I think has been the problem, there was nobody senior enough to tell Lucas when he had a rubbish idea, he was just surrounded by people who kept telling him he was a god among men.

Frankly Disney, as far as I'm concerned, more or less became the "great satan" years ago when they first began to buy up smaller companies. The fact that the past few years they've started to gobble up large successful in their own right companies just makes it all the more clear that such is the case. And this will keep happening again & again until they own every freaking piece of the entertainment industry or someone finally raises a stink about the monopoly they're creating.

In short, yes they are greedy & yes he sold out. Bad moves all around. Again.

I can see a couple of good things from this: more SW films enabling Lucas to continue the story and--and this is purely selfish on my part heh--Disney releasing finally Muppet Show's fourth season which includes the SW episode now that they own the rights to it.

It also reminds me I should make a SW icon one of these days. heh

I'm tentatively optimistic about the whole situation, for all the reasons you'd imagine.

But on an only semi-related note: http://www.slashfilm.com/wtf-star-wars-detours-trailer-the-animated-21st-century-star-wars-christmas-special/

These guys HATE the sitcom angle, but frankly the trailer's amusing. I wouldn't want the series considered canon, but I think it looks entertaining enough as spoof/parody.

I'm starting to get more and more worried. I thought it was great at first but now they're canceling things. LucasArts is okay but Clone Wars and Detours?

I knew Clone Wars only had a season or two left but I thought we'd get more of a closure...at least I can pretend now that Ahsoka survived Order 66 in Episode 3.

The two people to NOT piss off would be Dave Filoni and Seth Green...then you start losing a lot of the hardcore fanbase...even my mom's pretty upset when I told her. "How did we like Disney all those years?"

I blame Iger, I think he's trying to do everything right before he leaves.

I did a post about this yesterday, too. I was more worried about where they'll take the next trilogy---the original actors are too old now, so will they be recast? Will they use new characters? Where in the timeline will this take place? Will it be between the two trilogies?

I'm kind of hoping they don't go into the EU territory because I've never wanted to get into it because it seems like the authors just like to kill off my favorite characters (Chewbacca and Han for starters, and I'm sure even C-3PO and/or R2-D2 get destroyed at some point).

Actually, I think I'm more excited about the possibilities for Indiana Jones, Willow and Labyrinth which are all Lucasfilm properties also.

No. Not Indiana Jones. There are three films. THREE. Shia LaBeouf never showed up. Never. Sorry, but I can't stand that kid, and I really hope they don't hand him Indy's whip and fedora. Some things should remain sacred.

Count me among the cautiously optimistic. I agree that they've done a good job with Marvel and the Muppets, and there is definitely something to be said for someone having enough influence to shoot down/ modify some of Uncle George's zanier ideas. I do love parts of the EU and my dream for the next movies would be Tim Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy with Nathan Fillian as Han. BTW, what does this do for the book publishing rights? Does Disney own them too? I hope the new movies won't invalidate all of the EU, even though there are parts I hate.

Finally, I felt like Lucas was less of a sell-out when I found out he's donating a lot of the proceeds from the sale.
