I had more of a birthday week...

December 10, 2012

Mom and I went to the Disney outlet store and Downtown Disney. Woo!
I got this Precious Moments pirate for just 25 dollars. At Downtown Disney, I got a Vinylmation and a box of mystery Disney Afternoon pins! I got Goof Troop and TaleSpin! Burger King used to have a Burger King Kids Meal Club that you could sign up for and you'd get a free birthday meal. For my 11th birthday, they were having Bonkers toys so I got FallsApart Rabbit! I was so happy. Mom bought herself a birthday Duffy on sale and a keychain for his teddy.

Photobucket

The Cabbage Patch doll was my Christmas present along with a Chuckles Vinylmation. When I told my mom that her name was Darci Edana, she thought I said Darcy and said that seemed appropriate.

December 12, 2012
Mom wanted to celebrate the last time we'll ever see 12/12/12. I got London ornaments and she question what they had to do with 2012. "They did have the Olympics and the Queen's Jubilee. Why did you get the Eeyore decoration?"
"He's a donkey. There's a rainbow like things will get better and a lot of people have been acting like..."
"Jackasses?"
She nodded because she never says anything remotely curseworthy. It was only in the last ten years that she's been saying, "crap".

December 15, 2012

Well, earlier that week, I had already been informed by a coworker, "You're definitely getting a poster."
So, I knew I was getting an Avengers poster.
I hated that the surprise was gone but it does have all six so that's nice and it's up in my room. Later, my Secret Santa told me how she had looked for Loki but she couldn't find him anywhere, not even posters.
"It's kind of weird, isn't he the star? And then I thought I'd look for the actor since he's pretty..."
She makes a nod and a smile so you can guess what she meant but to her dismay, no Hiddleston posters either. Then, I told her how nice he is on the inside so I didn't get Loki but I did help create a new Tom Hiddleston fangirl...err, woman.
YAY!

December 16, 2012

I had to work 8:30-4 but at least, that left me time afterwards and I did Taco Bell for my lunch break. Nobody was having fun with their latest charity drive so I put down my name as Yoda.

Then, my brother picked me up for the movie.

I know thirty is a big deal and I did try to think about how best to celebrate it. However, the last big birthday was turning 21 and how did I celebrate that?

A bunch of hobbits, a dwarf and a ring...

So, I decided what I wanted most for this birthday was...

A bunch of dwarfs, a hobbit and a ring...

Photobucket

Most people have seen this now, right?

They had the trailer for Iron Man 3, yay! It's growing on me.
Okay, unpopular opinion time...I'm not excited about Pacific Rim. The cast looks awesome: Idris Elba, Burn Gorman, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi!!!!! and I tend to like a lot of del Toro's projects BUT...
It looks stupid. The aliens aren't fun. The robot things gave me Power Ranger vibes...I'm not feeling it.
Star Trek into Darkness - So, you showed me a trailer for a film where Benedict Cumberbatch is the villain before a movie where Benedict Cumberbatch plays the villain?
hehe

Ian Holm Bilbo! Frodo!
"The dwarfs delved too greedily and too deep."
I think I finally caught Peter Jackson the second time but I didn't feel bad since Stephen Colbert hadn't found him either. There's more Smaug later, yes? I liked this part a lot more the second time, it felt like I could appreciate it more. Thror still sounds like you were trying to say Thor and had a hairball or something. If people still don't realize the extent that Tolkien used Norse mythology for the dwarfs...ugh...
Those scenes in Bag End with Gandalf and the dwarves and Gandalf again were absolutely perfect, just how I imagined them. I love how Gandalf hit the chandelier, just like he would in sixty years. When Jackson had that first shot of Thorin with Kili behind him...in the same shot...it was like...woah, too many hot many hot dwarfs in one frame. To be honest, Fili was hotter than I was expecting. It turns out that I hadn't done my homework on that. When I was 16, I wasn't a big fan of Hercules or Xena unless Bruce Campbell was on, but I did watch Young Hercules after school. Why? Hercules was played by Ryan Gosling and his sidekick wasn't too bad looking either...yeah, he grew up to be Fili. Peter Jackson seems very, very aware of how good looking all three dwarfs are and seem to have them the most...I'm not opposed to this.
The second time I was able to focus more on the other dwarves and just how awesome James Nesbit continues to be. Unless he's too busy in New Zealand, can we have him do an episode of Doctor Who? Some of you may not be aware, but he was heavily rumored for Eleven.

The first time I watched this, it was half watching a movie and half squeeing over all the firsts: Trolls! Weathertop! Sting! Elrond! Galadriel!

RADAGAST! I love him a love a lot, not the unsanitary hair but everything else and everything about the performance, to me, screams, "I once played the Doctor." Obviously, wizard and Time Lord have similar viewpoints and responsibilities but there's also that whimsy involved. The rabbit sled and everything are so awesome...ugh, I've always liked his character on paper and now it's like he's real and basically how I always saw him.

The first time, I saw Benedict Cumberbatch's name in the credits and thought, Really? For the eye? The snout? But the second time, I found out that he's actually the Necromancer and you can sort of make that out.

Elrond on a horse! And doing stuff!!!!! I'm actually not sure what makes me more excited; Elrond kicking ass or Kili using a bow and arrows...

RIVENDELL! Rivendell and Bad End were the only times where I kind of wished I did the 3D. Yes, Galadriel! Of course, I am excited about Saruman, too, but Galadriel, I love her and she's the first female we've seen since Hobbiton...
I have head canon with regards to Tolkien. He describes Celebrian as being stabbed by a "poisoned blade" by Orcs and despite being healed, unable to find joy in her life and traveling to the Undying Lands. To me, this sounds incredibly similar to Frodo and his wound so my head canon is that Celebrian was stabbed by a Morgul blade. This adds an extra poignancy to Elrond and Galadriel recognizing Gandalf's sword as a similar make but worse. Also, when he says how he had kin in Gondolin, I want to scream, "His grandmother was the freaking princess!" So, yeah, that's a bit of an understatement. Can I please have the Silmarillion movie now?

I feel bad admitting this but leaving Rivendell is when the movie started to lose me. It didn't seem like it would get to the barrels and definitely not Smaug in whatever time was left. There was battle after battle after battle until I felt like, "Really? Another battle? Didn't you just battle like five minutes ago? This feels like Pokemon played by a ten year old."
Don't get me started on Azog...
I felt like in some ways, they were trying too hard for the audience to like Thorin. I liked him because he's Richard Armitage and Thorin but obviously, the average movie-goer isn't going to know who he is. For example, my brother read the books years and years ago...when I was young, THAT long ago...and he didn't like Thorin, said that he seemed to be saying Boromir's lines. He didn't like Kili either, said that he looked like "the oldest Camden from 7th Heaven".

With all of the merchandise in every shape and form...they should totally do Rock'em, Sock'em robots with the mountain rock giants.

I was excited for Gollum and actually relieved when he showed up. There needed to be two things. Bilbo needed to say he was from Bag End in the Shire and we needed to see, "t'was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand." I was not disappointed in this regard. My mom also agreed that Gollum looks in such absolute pain and torment from losing the ring that despite everything...you do pity him. If you notice, Andy Serkis is also in the credits as 2nd Unit Director...awesome.

Yay, eagles! On one hand, it's nice to have that Thorin apology to Bilbo so fact but on the other hand, moving it up from the ending contributes to the forced factor of wanting to make the audience like Thorin.

Ugh, I wanted more Smaug! He'[s a freaking dragon! My brother said he was okay with it since it's the Jaws technique and we do have two more films but...ugh, I wanted it so much.

Now, yet another nitpick/problem with the movie:
I was looking at the movie merchandise with my mom, before she saw it, and pointed at Tauriel.
Me: She wasn't even in it!
My Mom: She wasn't in it? Why?
Me: Because they didn't get to the barrels yet. They just showed Legolas' dad a few times.
My Mom: But Legolas was in it, right?
Me: No.
My Mom: Now, I'm not sure I want to see it...but he'll be in the next one?
Me: Definitely, it's when his dad puts the dwarves in barrels because his dad is a dick.
My Mom: How did Legolas turn out so well?
Me: I'm going to assume it was Aragorn's influence.

I understand how Lord of the Rings had long moments of lacking female characters but he was able to insert Arwen flashback or Arwen instead of Glorfindel or whatever so it wouldn't seem so bad but here...
Total sausage fest as they're fond of saying on Tumblr...The worst part is that it gives people the wrong idea about Tolkien when Tolkien created one of the earliest examples of a bad-ass modern female hero ever who rescues her man rather than being the damsel in distress herself...Luthien. Luthien does what she wants, cuts her hair, rides a wolf, does a rescue attempt against SAURON!, FIGHTS HIM!, defeats him with help, faces motherfucking MORGOTH! and goes to the freaking Halls of Mandos to get her man back.

We seriously need a Silmarillion movie NOW. Sadly, I've seen The Hobbit twice and I'm pretty good with that until the extended dvd comes out.

Then, I went home, ate a Lunchable and watched television.

DOWNTOWN DISNEY AGAIN!

Anywhere on Disney property is one of my favorite places ever and since we went directly to Downtown Disney without stopping at the outlet mall or Altamonte Springs first, we passed Hollywood Studios and under the main entrance.

We both expressed a sigh of sadness at not having passes anymore. It's been one year and nine months and it doesn't get easier, lol.

I got a birthday pin from Guest Services, just like we were in the parks, yay!
We got LOTR keyrings from Lego; Gandalf for her and Gimli for me. I'm really impressed with the detail for Gimli and his armor.

The previous week, I had made a Disney employee sad at D Street. She felt like she had disappointed me because of my shock at her revelation that she had never seen Star Wars...any of them. This week, I shocked her with the simple sentence:
No, we've never had a Dole Whip.

We just assumed it was full of sugar and crap and not worth it. Now, everyone acts like we had passed up ambrosia. "It's only available at three places in THE WHOLE WORLD!" I suppose if we ever do Magic Kingdom again, we'll have one. Then, my mom gave me the Master Sorcerer Badge Pin. It's very awesome looking.

The highlight was the T-Rex Cafe!

Photobucket

I had never eaten at one before or built a dinosaur. I always wanted to but it seemed sort of expensive. However, you only turn 30 once. We were sat right away, next to this adorable baby Mammoth who would move his trunk.
Photobucket
There was almost too much to look at between the other customers, the fish tank bar, the animatronic dinosaurs, the animatronic Mammoths, the non-moving decorations and the meteor showers ever twenty minutes. It was also so loud that it seemed off that they were even trying to have cantina music in the background.

Photobucket

The food wasn't priced as badly as I thought, about $15 for both of us. I got the Brontosaurus Burger with waffle fries. I'm a connoisseur of fries and restaurants, other than Chikfila, serving waffle fries are rare.

Photobucket

THESE WERE THE BEST WAFFLE FRIES EVER!!!!!!

They were crispy, sort of like when Burger King redid their fries in 2000 or so, but they also had a seasoning similar to the spicy fries we used to have in public school.
They were so freaking good that words cannot deeply express how good these were. I worshiped every bite with an appropriate amount of ketchup and pepper. The burger had swiss cheese, a large onion ring on top and the perfect pickles. There are two types of pickles that I feel are best for sandwiches; One is when they're cut the long way like Steak and Shake and the other is when they're cut thickly and not too pickled. These were the second ones. The burger was so thick that at first I had to bite from the top and then bite from the bottom until it was able to sog together into a smaller bite. Admittedly, it was hard to discern the different flavors once that happened but it was still a lot better than any fast food burger. My mom had the Asteroid French Onion soup which was daring because it was sherry based and she never has any alcohol at all. It was bought out in a metal tureen like Medieval times which was very cool. She also had a Jurassic salad with Balsamic Vinaggrette. She declared everything delicious.

However, it wasn't until after ordering that we realized our mistakes. We try to only eat Humane egg products and the onion ring was probably made with an egg mixture. More serious was that the French Onion soup was probably made with a beef broth...my mom's been a vegetarian since Babe in 1995.

Best Part? Two of the employees came over at the end and sang to me, Happy Birthday!!!!!
It was awesome and my mom wished she could have taken pictures. I'd never had that happen before.

Bathroom

After visiting their bathroom which didn't disappoint, I made my dinosaur. It's a fluffy Carnotaurus! I was tempted by a Rainbow Pterandon but fluffy Carnotaurus?! Who could pass that up? It took a little longer than usual because I had to come up with new Buildabear wishes. My wishes for Coulson to come back and Obama to win re-election have already come true.

Photobucket

I named him Estel, both for Aragorn and the meaning. I wanted to get him this clothing set with a Jurassic Park raptor on it but his tail was too big for the hole. I love that whole store, the Buildabear portion and the regular portion. The t-shirts were hilarious especially the Tea-Rex one.

Afterwards, we originally were going to see The Hobbit but my mom decided she wanted to put that off for a week. Instead, we hit Wiregrass and saw the light show; always the same but always fun especially since we were close enough to experience the snow. I also picked up "Tre" and plushie Gollum while mom bought this awesome keyring that's Orchist and the map.

Happy Birthday!!

I too wish there could be a Silmarillion movie, but unfortunately Tolkien's estate is only allowing LoTR and the Hobbit to be made into films. Nothing from the Silmarillion or any of the History of Middle Earth. I'm hoping that someday they change their minds.

Sounds like you had quite a fun week! :D

Yeah, the lack of Loki on Avengers posters, etc. is annoying. The only one I know of is the one that's got the six of them in the foreground and Loki's eyes superimposed in the sky above. It uses the promo art too, not even real photos. And even that one's not around as much as other stuff. The only time I saw it was at the comic con where I bought it.

You've never had a Dole Whip?! *gasp* Wow, I'm not surprised that lady was shocked. They're just sooo good! They practically are ambrosia! Definitely worth trying. :D

I remember those Bonkers toys!

They totally should have Loki posters. At the very least Tom Hiddleston posters.

It makes sense why he used Nordic mythology for the dwarves. I mean that is where the dwarves are the most in mythology.

I was so glad to see Elrond kick ass.

Gollum is pretty well done.

That burger is huge!
