Chapter One
“Oskerion?” asked the Doctor while wearing a pink lei and reading their current coordinates, “Girl, why are we at Oskerion in this century? There can’t possibly be anyone here. It’s a frozen wasteland.” Then, he heard the unmistakable sound of someone being pulled into the TARDIS. For a second, he hoped it was Donna again before he remembered that he could never see her again. No, this person was taller than Donna, but just as recognizable when he came closer.
“Oh, Jack, what’s happened to you?” he asked as he looked him over and took one of his hands. It was icy cold and the other man still wasn’t waking up. There weren't even shoes on his feet. He took out his screwdriver and ran it over the former time agent’s body.
“Malnutrition, dehydration, exposure, a sleeping drug and…two life forms!” The Doctor yelled and continued with the scan, “It’s a hitchhiker, right? Tell me it’s a hitchhiker…two life forms, both human.”
He undid the buttons on the winter coat, ripping the sides of fabric apart to reveal the swollen middle.
“Oh, Jack, what have you done?” he inquired even though he knew there’d be no answer. The Doctor grabbed the man by the shoulders and pulled him through the TARDIS until he reached what used to be the companion’s bedroom when it was just him, Rose and Jack. Those were happy times. He helped the unconscious man onto the bed before running back to get his things. How long had it been since he’d actually…doctored? He couldn’t recall as he inserted an IV. After everything was set up, he waited in a chair for the other to wake up.
“Hello, Jack,” he said as those blue eyes opened.
“Doctor?” the man whispered in a hoarse voice.
“The one and only,” he replied with a smile, “How you feeling?”
“I’m fine,” the man started and then panic filled his features with his hands clutching his belly, “But what about the baby?”
“Why don’t you see for yourself?” the Time Lord suggested and motioned his head toward the large screen behind him. First, he turned it on with the screwdriver and then, he aimed the device at Jack’s bump.
“Wait a minute? Are you sure that’s safe?” the patient asked and he resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He nearly died and he’s worried about the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver?
“Yes, it’s safe, now look,” he said as an image appeared; a thirty week old fetus.
“Is it…is it sucking its thumb?” the expectant parent questioned and he nodded.
“Do you want to know which kind of it it is?” the Time Lord inquired and couldn’t help getting excited, too. There was hesitation on his face.
“No, not yet, I’m just going to enjoy this moment,” Jack spoke in awe, “This is the first time I’ve actually been able to see him or her.”
Being a pregnant man in the twenty-first century could not be easy.
“Does the father know?” he asked and the man before him shook his head.
“He died,” he said and the Doctor recalled something he’d said when they’d met last.
“Oh, not the young man with the pink tie?” he remarked and saw from the other’s expression that it was, “We didn’t get a chance to really meet, but he seemed like a nice enough fellow.” He turned the image and monitor off before sticking the screwdriver and his hands in his pockets.
“You didn’t come when it happened. Everyone called your mobile and everything,” Jack complained and the happiness had drained from his face. He tried to recall although it was always a bit difficult when there was what really happened, what could happen and what was going to happen. It was all in his head.
“No, I can’t recall that and I definitely think I would,” he argued which didn’t improve the other’s temper.
“Then, they must still be in your message box or something, this happened six months ago,” the other retorted and there was only one way to solve this. He felt for the device and turned up empty. Why could he never remember to have it on his person?
“I must have left it on the console, I’ll be right back,” the Doctor spoke, ran downstairs and returned with the mobile.
“One new message…”
“Just one, there should be more than that,” Jack complained as he dialed the right buttons and listened.
“Aww, Lady Christina went to Minyos II and they still talk about me and Leela,” he informed the other man as he hung up.
“And just who is Lady Christina?” the leader of Torchwood asked while crossing his arms.
“Not sure how she got my number, but she does appear to be resourceful. Lady Christina is someone I met last month at Easter. I liked her, but…” he trailed off and hoped his friend would understand, “There was a flying bus, like the Knight one only…not purple. It was fun.”
“Well, as long as it was fun, must be the same time you got the new neckware” Jack spat and he knew better than to say anything to that. He’d lost someone very dear to him and the Doctor was very familiar with how that felt.
“You should get some sleep if you can, or at least rest. I’ll be around if you need anything,” he spoke and was about to leave the room when he was asked the inevitable.
“Where’s Donna?”
“I lost her,” he replied; his hand clutching the doorframe for support.
“What? She’s not dead. I just saw her last month coming out of a limo in London, holding hands with some guy,” the other argued and he hoped it was true. It would make him feel better if her life at least turned out to be a happy one, but there were so many possibilities, he couldn’t be certain yet.
“But she can never see me again; if she does, if she remembers any of it…” the Doctor utter, his brown eyes meeting Jack’s blue ones, “She’ll die. She had the entire knowledge of the universe in her head and that’s too much for a human.”
His former companion’s countenance softened.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know,” he apologized.
“No one does except for her mother and grandfather,” the Time Lord told him and hurried out of the room. Escape would be a better term. He hated talking about Donna. It wasn’t as though she was the love of his life or biologically related yet he missed her. Looking back, it was though she was the sister he’d never had. Most people either feared him or looked upon him like he was almost a god, but not her. She hadn’t been afraid to tell him he was wrong and it was nice just being mates; no romantic entanglements. Although with Jack in the TARDIS for the foreseeable future, perhaps he should try to be better mates with him, just for now.
*************************************************************************************
Over a week passed in which Jack became better and he continued as he always done, there were plans to foil, rights to wrong and he hadn’t had a good banana in awhile. He was used to the former time agent staying in his room, but this time when he returned, the other man sat in a chair by the console.
“So, you saved Genghis Khan?” Jack asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Timelines, they have to be preserved, even if a Silurian wants to build a water park in Outer Mongolia in the Twelfth century,” the Doctor replied while sitting down on a step.
It was clear the other had been thinking about something while he was away yet wasn’t sure how to address it.
“Oh, come on, out with it,” the Time Lord spoke and looked toward the man in the chair.
“How many adventures did we go on? They were countless except for when we had to stop someone and when it comes to stopping someone from doing evil? Where did we inevitably have to be? Earth. In the last eight days, you’ve been to different time periods of Earth three times,” Jack stated as he lay his hands on that expanding bump, “There’s a whole big universe with countless galaxies and you keep coming back to Earth and I’m just curious about why.”
“You’re the same way. I don’t mean to spoil, but I’m fairly certain that you’re even there when Earth gets swallowed by the sun. You throw a party,” he retorted back.
“Well, that definitely sounds like me, but I have reasons. I have family,” he said and seemed surprised by saying it, “But for you, why Earth?”

Date: 2009-12-15 05:42 am (UTC)Now to sort out this bussiness with calls not going through. Hmm. I remember reading somewhere that the reason the Doctor didn't get involved with CoE was mentioned in the show, but I don't remember it. Excited to see what you've come up with (assumption made that Jack is not going to let that go easy)! And of course Jack would throw a party at the end of the world! That's probably how Boe shows up. XD
Can't wait for more! You've given me a boost before my final in the morning. :)
edited for typo. urgh...

Date: 2009-12-26 03:56 pm (UTC)Now I'm even more curious about what you were expecting...
Well, Donna is awesome so I was happy to mention her...and perhaps after I see the new episodes, I could mention more of her, we'll see.
Gwen thought the Doctor didn't show up because he was ashamed...to which I reply (coughs) Bullshit! (coughs)
I suppose the Rusty reason would be that it was a fixed event except that he totally broke that rule with the "Mars" episode.
Yeah, the thing about the calls will turn up again.
I hope you did well on your final.

Date: 2009-12-26 04:03 pm (UTC)You're supposed to be confused about the Doctor not receiving the phone calls, hehe.
I love Planet of the Dead especially Lee Evans' character. I think it'd be cool if he was actually Owen's cousin...yes, I might use that in a story sometime.
Donna needs to be shown doing well.
(has fingers crossed for End of Time tonight and next Saturday)
Thank You!

Date: 2009-12-26 04:18 pm (UTC)Yeah, there was no scene with the Doctor being phoned, just Gwen talking about why she thought he didn't come but that would mean that they were expecting him to come and while they could be expecting him because the Earth was in danger, they tend to call him about such things lately.
Really, why would they call him because the Earth got stolen and NOT call when ten percent of the children were in danger? Especially Sarah Jane? We're expected to think that she just let this go? Puh-leeze, that just stretches the incredulity.
Thank you!

Date: 2010-04-14 06:57 pm (UTC)I've tried to put DW, Torchwood, Sarah Jane and even Classic Who into all my Janto stories...Wiki gets a work-out, hehe,
Yeah, I'm still curious about what happened in between POTD and EOT. We have WoM and three books but it still seems like a large gap...
I can't wait for Saturday for our actual, real introduction to Eleven...no, I haven't cheated online yet...
thanks!

Date: 2010-04-15 12:50 am (UTC)I also don't like the country restriction thing. If people in Australia and the UK want to watch something on Hulu shouldn't they be able to?
And if us across the pond want to watch things on BBC's website shouldn't we be allowed to?
The more countries exposed to your product the more aware others will be about your amazing show. We get things legally and they get more money. And if it's available legally I WILL put up with the commercials 'cause I want to support the show.
Everybody lives, erm, wins.

Date: 2010-04-15 12:55 am (UTC)When asked about people doing this with the season finale at the time, Joss Whedon said, "Bootleg that puppy!"
He just wanted people to see his work regardless of whether he was making profit off of it.
