For a time, there was talk of a Ghostbusters sequel where the old generation works alongside the new with Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill. Then, Harold Ramis died.

I think most of the enthusiasm for the project died with him.

However, Paul Feig wants to do a reboot where the Ghostbusters will all be...female!

Between that idea being totally awesome and Paul Feig being the guy that bought you Bridesmaids and The Heat, I'm totally on board with this.

So, I decided to do my own fantasy casting with gender-switching:

Melissa McCarthy ... Dr. Venkman
Kristen Wiig ... Dr. Stantz
Andrew Lee Potts, Sebastian Stan or Manish Dayal ... Dana Barrett
Meagan Good ... Dr. Spengler
Gina Rodriguez ... Louise Tully
Rinko Kikuchi ... Zeddemore
Richard Ayoade, Jared Gilman or Tony Revolori ... Justin Melnitz

The little I know about this was that Gillian Anderson (I think) commented that she wanted to be a Ghostbuster and when Bill Murray was asked on twitter what he thought of all girl ghostbusters he was on board with the idea

I'd do it as The Next Generation, and have them as the daughters of the original Ghostbusters, who grew up hearing their dads talk about these awesome things they used to do. But then the g hosts all mysteriously disappeared.

That way you can do the Bill Murray cameo. :)

Oh gosh, Gillian Anderson??

That so needs to happen. I don't want to revise my cast list but she needs to be in this film somehow, dammit!

Also, if they want to include any of the X-Files people on AOS that's cool with me, too.

I was also very tempted to somehow include Ming-Na and Tom Hiddleston.

*fingers crossed for that eventual third X-Files film and for it to be good*

I think there is always room for a Bill Murray cameo.

I used to be on board with the whole Next Generation thing until Ramis died and the others stopped wanting to be involved with the project. I think, at this point, Murray is the ONLY one who wants in on it.

I don't want a Next Generation movie lacking the previous one so I think it might be better to either do a total reboot or have the women see what happened in New York and open up their own version/franchise.

I just hope it happens. And lays the memory of Ghostbusters 2 to rest.

And all female team will just be amazing.

I would be 100% on board with a 3rd X-files movie that was just Scully dealing with cover-ups Melinda May stlye.

If they'll let the cast be older actress Amanda Tapping needs to be in there somewhere. I miss her SO much!

I just don't want a repeat of the second film where Mulder and Scully seemed so miserable towards each other for most of it and I never liked the religious episodes. My favorite part of the last film to be honest was the credits where they ended up in the rowboat together which was so symbolic in so many ways.

Oh, that's awesome! I was at the edge of fandom before the film. I'd watched brief scenes and such here and there because of my brother but nothing serious. The film turned me into a full-fledged fan. I still have episodes of The Lone Gunmen on VHS.

Aww, to me, the second one did have some fun stuff like the cute relationship stuff and Peter MacNicol...I love how he just randomly shows up in things.

They aren't official, I recorded them off the television when they were new.

On September 12th or 13th, 2001, I finally got the courage to rewatch that premiere because it seemed familiar...

I know it's coincidence but it's still kind of freaky to this day.

I remember quite enjoying the first half, but then the ending was just... it felt too much like they were trying to recreate the Stay Puft Marshmallow. Which, I don't know, it's probably just because the first movie is so perfect in every way.
