DAMMITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will learn to accept the casting but I don't like it especially when people who call themselves "fans" of Cumberbatch talk about how strange it'll be to hear him with an American accent!

How about 12 Years a Slave and August: Osage County? Where the fuck have you been?

I know it could have been worse but he's securely type-casted* now and Marvel is being too safe with their choices outside television/Netflix. Would have casting someone a less Caucasian or even just a less pale male have really killed you?

*He was basically type-casted already since my mom and I seem to be the only ones who remember he was in August: Osage County but there was hope...

*deep breaths* It's not like I was ever going to get to have him and Wanda teaming up like in my favorite comics. I need to focus on the good parts, like Wanda does seem perfect, I'm getting more Hawkeye and Judy Greer is playing Cassie Lang's mom. *deep breaths*

I'm peeved as well - we already have one white posh Brit-type in the MCU, we didn't need another!

Exactly, because I know he won't actually be British and yet...Strange can so easily become Sherlock with a different accent...

I just wanted someone totally different in virtually all aspects.

Yeah, Ben's getting uber-typecasted at this point and Hollywood insisting he's the best thing to come out of England since the Beatles is just OTT at this point.

Ugh. Cumberbatch? I was really, really hoping that wasn't going to happen. I saw some fancasts of Oded Fehr and Alexander Siddig that were fantastic.

Yes, I agree.

Aw, am I the only one who's actually ok with this? And I'm not even a fan of Cumberbatch! But really, he was much better than some of the choices being bandied about, so I've really got no complaints. Yeah the fans will follow him, but so what? Doesn't bother me personally, so I don't really see any problems.

No, because for the longest time I thought I was the only one who wasn't okay with it.

I'm aware it could have been worse but "could have been worse" is not that good of a selling point for me.

I don't care about his fangirls. I can deal with fangirls. Remember, we were both around for the Johnny fangirls and those were CRAZY back in the day.

I have two problems:

1. It still feels like type-casting to me as though there is no one else to get when you have an introverted, egocentric genius who has the capacity to really care for a few and possibly be funny from time to time.

2. In my head...honestly...when I read Dr. Strange in anything, comics to novels to fanfic...I picture Viggo Mortensen. To me, Strange has that sort of world weariness of having been and done and seen everything. There are a few actors who can't convince me of that just through their eyes, like Viggo and also Tom Hiddleston. Cumberbatch has never had this quality to me. His eyes always seem like a schoolboy on holiday.

I'm not saying he's a bad actor though. I have enjoyed many of his films...which could be another problem. I've started having problems with people I know from too many other places, like when I watch the Hobbit trailer and Lee Pace's voice makes me think Ronan, not Thranduil. I'm actually enjoying Gracepoint better than Broadchurch because of the lack of recognizable actors.

I suppose the basic problem is that I liked Dr. Strange before all of this and have read his comics so I already had an idea of how I saw him and Marvel disagreed. It always hurts when your fanon is invalidated.

I always pictured Dr. Strange as having some kind of accent. lol... Don't ask me what kind, but I don't picture him as middle of the road American. :p

Typically Brits doing Americans don't do the Midwest non-accent. They usually go for the Southern accent.

Considering Marvel tends to let the actors do their normal accents...Hawkeye doesn't have an Iowa accent...I don't know what we'll get.

*Please not Southern, Please not Southern*

Speaking-wise, he usually sounds like Viggo Mortensen in my head.

Now I am trying to picture/hear what Viggo sounds like. lol...

I think for Dr. Strange, I lean towards a Spanish accent.
Again, not sure why. :p

and here I thought I was the only one annoyed by him being chosen.

I do not like him, or his acting and his fans are scarily nuts.

I was also hoping they'd go with someone non-white. Someone was tossing around the idea of Oded Fehr (he was in the mummy and was Olivera in one of the few RE movies that didn't completely suck. I don't know a ton about Dr. Strange but based on how he looked in some of the cartoons, I didn't think he WAS Caucasian.

No, you are definitely not alone although I had the same worry when it was first announced. It seemed to me like I was also the only one.

He seems okay, I have enjoyed most of the projects he has acted in but I also have to acknowledge that I tend to prefer whoever is acting alongside him to his own character.

A couple of people have pointed out how the comics can make him seem less Caucasian depending on the artist. I never really thought about it before. Many make Strange so that if he's in a close-up or not wearing his typical clothes, it's hard to tell him apart from Tony Stark.

However, Tony's mom is Maria Carbonell who had very classical Italian looks, including the darker skin so Tony could also be darker than usually depicted.

I just figured that if a character's story doesn't revolve around their race, then it could be easily changed. It's not the same as Steve Rogers being the all-American poster boy for world war 2 with his blond hair and blue eyes in a way that Isaiah Bradley would have never been able to achieve in world war 2. Those are both stories dependent on their race being true to the comics.

I've not read a ton of the actual comics, and most what I've read has been either the newer Secret Avengers or Black Widow so had no idea about his looks there.

It's been pointed out how many movies they've made that are lead by white guys named Chris, you'd think they'd take the chance with someone less known to change their race and encourage the audience to continue.

Because as excited as I am we get Captain Marvel, we still have no BW movie and her movie is so many years away they could easily find a way to push it back/undo it before then.

I've given up on the Black Widow movie.

It feels like they were just stringing us along all this time and never really intended to make one. If they couldn't even announce one after the success of Lucy, then they never will in the present circumstances. They still insist that all her backstory is in Age of Ultron and a stand-alone film isn't necessary. ugh

But to me, it wouldn't need to be a stand-alone film to make me happy, I'd settle for a film about the women, current/former, of SHIELD and team her up with Maria, Sharon, Bobbi and Melinda.

I also realize that I am probably never getting Barney Barton on-screen either even though in my head, he's played by Daniel Craig...if only Fraction's run could be adapted onto the big screen but I have no hopes for this either. People keep wanting one of the characters on Agents of SHIELD to turn out to be Madame Masque but I really don't want her without Kate Bishop.

I've been in kind of a bad place lately, especially with Marvel. I look forward to tonight's Agent of SHIELD more than most of their upcoming films.
