I'm in a group on Facebook for Torchwood. I liked having the discussions and seeing what everyone was up to.

However, the last discussion resulted in the maintainers saying Torchwood was basically dead and that they would change things after the new year...probably to John Barrowman only.

Part of me is sad because I did like seeing people discuss Torchwood and how current Doctor Who Stories might be affecting them.

Part of me thinks it might be for the best when so many people insist that Moffat is the devil incarnate. It kind of ruins Fandom for me a little bit when they won't acknowledge that all writers have good and bad points and Davies was no unfaulted saint either.

But between all the crap in Fandom and my very busy life...I haven't even watched any of the special Christmas clips or ads since the last new episode.

Maybe if I ignore it for now, I can pretend that Michelle Gomez is still involved?

I loved her so much, I loved all of that twist and I think it's kind of great that for the first time ever, she gets to be more well-known than her husband.

Aww i still am on an email list with friends from Torchwood days - and though we rarely talk about Torchwood or JB anymore, it is a great community. It is a breakoff from a livejournal group here, Ask Captain Jack, that went on for awhile and became insanely nuts.

As one who has even walked on the beach behind JB"s house (we weren't' stalking, I SWEAR!) I share your sadness for your group even though I'm not a part of it. I am not watching Doctor Who these days, I just never got into Moffat's world. RTD was no saint, no, but I did like his show running. His new show looks very...weird. Or shows. Whatever.

I loved all the Ask ..., I think I finally de-friended them but it was hard to let go even though they were over,

I own all the seasons of The Sarah Jane Adventures. I tried a couple episodes of Wizards vs Aliens and I thought I enjoyed them but I never remembered to watch it again.

Moffat's confirmed Gomez is coming back next year. So basically Missy/Master didn't die in the finale afterall.

That's too bad the moderator declared Torchwood dead. :o
Does a show like that ever really die? :o

What do you mean, "change things" =/? The details about Torchwood's history, any plans to bring the show back, or changes to DW? If the third is what you mean, I don't know where the person who said that got their info from, because the only changes I know of are Twelve is going to be somewhat less grumpy & mean, and Clara may leave after the first three episodes of S9 (though this hasn't yet been confirmed).. And there's been no mention of Jack coming back to the show at all. Moffat was asked about both him and River in a recent interview, and what he said was neither is likely to return to the Whoniverse unless a good idea for a story with one of them materializes.

Interesting. For me, TW split off from the Whoniverse after COE. So the two shows essentially exist in their own separate universes now, thus, nothing that's happened in DW since then has affected the canon and universe of Torchwood at all, and vice versa.

Yeah, I hate the "haters", too. I'm one of the presumably few people in the DW fandom who's liked all of New Who so far, and I don't really prefer the RTD era over the current one. I also think both RTD and Moffat have their weaknesses as showrunners,.*Nods*

As for whether Missy is coming back? Like juliet316 said, Moffat did confirm that Michelle Gomez would be back in the role at some point in S9, yes. So no need to worry about that ;).

The group administrator wants to change things, probably by making a new group that's just for John Barrowman...

Oh no, I'm always thinking about how Torchwood could bbe affected especially with the Cybermen in the last episode.

Sometimes, I root for a new showrunner just to get the haters to shut up but then, we're almost guaranteed that they'll hate the new person, too.

Yay, Missy!

Ah, got it :]. *Nods* I'm sorry to hear about your group :(. As you've no doubt guessed, I haven't visited Facebook in ages (speaking of which, I know it's way late, but thank you for the birthday wishes, and a very belated happy birthday to you 8]). And even if I were visiting it more regularly, I don't think I'm a member of that group.

What's really behind my mindset in regard to that is I prefer to pretend "Miracle Day" never happened. In my personal headcanon, Jack is still wandering the universe. Petty & narrow-minded, maybe, especially since I never made the effort to watch MD, not even when BBC America showed it a couple of years or so ago, but there was just so little left of the show I'd loved after COE, that I had no desire to tune into it anymore :(. *Shrugs sadly* I did have a bit of a moment though, when I watched "Dark Water". I thought the bit in the episode when the camera did a close up on the tank with the nameplate "Xylo Jones" was a very subtle nod to TW.

Unfortunately, yes. It seems to be an unending cycle in the DW fandom :/. Some group of fans hates the current show runner with a passion, and loudly proclaims that they do; a name is floated when hints of said show runner leaving start building, and the aforementioned individuals say/think some form of, "Oh, thank god so-and-so might be taking over. He'll fix everything [current showrunner] has done wrong"; new showrunner comes in, has a "honeymoon" period when everyone, even those who were previously "haters", likes him & praises him profusely; then after a couple of seasons, a group of "haters" forms, and the whole cycle starts anew. *Rolls eyes* It's very tiresome, to be perfectly honest :\, so I just ignore it.

I know, I was quite happy to find that out, too, because I also liked her a lot 8). *Nods* I'm one of those who doesn't have a problem with a female Master, or the possibility of getting a female Doctor one day, so I didn't bat an eyelid when Missy said, "I couldn't very well continue calling myself "Master", now could I?" And even though I'd suspected for a while that's who she would turn out to be, I still squeed 😄.

It's a bit off-topic, but how do you like Twelve? I personally like him a lot 8]. *Nods*

Thanks

I did watch Miracle Day which had a lot of stuff I hated but it also had Anwen so I'm good with some of it.
I like to think stuff is a Ianto reference but...there is also Martha Jones and Harriet Jones who are no relations.

I admit that I was tired of Davies and ready for him to leave that last few episodes that he did.

No, all Time Lords can be either and everyone should just accept that.

I liked Peter Capaldi before so it's kind of cheating...this is the first time that I was aware of an actor before he was the Doctor. I'd seen some stuff with Eccleston and Tennant but not enough to count...and in Tennant's case, it was a huge drawback that I only knew him as Barty Crouch, Jr. He had to work to win me over.

In some ways, Capaldi is the most tragic of the Doctors yet...some of the ways he says stuff or the expression on his face...tears me up. However, he is a bit gruffer, more alien.

I wish he could have been with Ferguson one last time, it seems so unfair.

You're welcome 8].

You were more open-minded than me, then, and I applaud you for that 8).

Very true, very true. *Nods* I think Ianto and TW were just the first things that came to mind when I was watching that because I assumed Martha was still probably alive, and Harriet Jones was from so far back, that the portion of the audience who'd just started with this season (and some other little groups, too), wouldn't have known enough to interpret that moment that way.

Really? Interesting. I don't know that I'd begun to get tired of him, exactly, but of all the specials, the only ones I really, really liked were "Waters Of Mars" and "The End Of Time". "The Next Doctor" was entertaining enough, but I found "Planet Of The Dead" absolutely dull. I never clicked with young Lady Christina (the only characters, other than the Doctor, that I found interesting at all were the people on the bus), and the only really interesting aspects of it were the fly aliens and the killer metal bat ray things, which I thought were pretty scary. the rest of it, though? Meh.

Exactly (I'm guessing you were agreeing with me that there'd be nothing wrong with perhaps having a female Doctor one day?) 8]. *Nods*

Same with me, though Eccleston and Tennant were completely unfamiliar to me when they were cast in the role. At the time of the announcement of Capaldi as the new Doctor, I'd only seen him in TW: COE, "The Fires Of Pompeii", and this mini-series called "The Devil's Whore", in which he played King Charles I (I didn't see him in the series The Musketeers. until after that.) But those three things, the first in particular, were enough to convince me that he'd make a great Doctor.

Yeah, me too, it would have been fun to see, considering how fanboy-ish the two of them are when it comes to DW. I never saw the one appearance he made on The Late Late Show, so I was hoping I'd get the chance this time around. But oh well, what can you do :[? *Shrugs*

He really is. *Nods* Just as an example, the look on his face when, in "Deep Breath", he says to Clara, "Just see me." is absolutely heartbreaking ={! And the multiple emotions Capaldi shows there, mostly a combination of anger and hurt, is amazing! He is, yeah, but I don't mind that very much, as it's quite different from both Ten and Eleven, and I like that. Also, moments like the above (and there were many over the course of the season, I thought) did a lot to balance out Twelve's grumpiness, meanness, and alienness for me.

I actually enjoyed Planet of the Dead except for the metal sperm monsters. I liked Lady Christina but I suppose I'm easy to please when it comes to female characters. I liked that she was spunky and stole stuff...and actually those are the qualities I enjoy in River Song and Selina Kyle, too.

You mean you haven't seen In the Loop?
*gasp*

There's also two tv series before and after it, but In the Loop was a proper movie that I saw in an actual theatre because it had TOM HOLLANDER! in it. Also, there were excellent reviews and I love that particular theatre but mostly TOM HOLLANDER!

I kind of miss my Beckett icon.

Anyway, In the Loop and the two series are AWESOME! That's what I really knew him best from.

I loved how he voluntarily put the alien on which was undone later because they'd had the aliens all along but still...
Also, it's kind of hilarious that Clara had that "Peggy Carter" moment when she was also in the first Captain America film.

I was watching the Christmas episode thinking...now when do we that get "John Hurt moment"?
And it's always Richard Coyle's voice that says it even though he wasn't in that episode.

When he's all done with Dr Who, I really hope Moffatt does another thriller/horror like he did with Jekyll...or maybe just another season of that.
