Midterm Elections
Dec. 29th, 2014 10:56 pmThe news made a big deal of the overwhelming majority of voters in the 2014 elections being Caucasian. However, this website gets more technical:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/11/05/the-2014-electorate-wasnt-just-older-and-whiter-than-2012-it-also-voted-more-republican/
75% of voters were Caucasian which actually matches up with 77% of US citizens being Caucasian. African-Americans make up 13% of citizens and 12% of voters. The surprise is that Hispanic/Latino voters only made up 8% of voters when they could comprise as much as 17% of the population. Is there not enough social outreach or are they that disenfranchised?
However, this isn't going to stay this forever. This article feels that Caucasian majority only has a few more elections before it's over:

This article is about how the last time that the Republicans had this many seats in the Senate and House was in 1928...and it didn't work out so well for any of us:

Plus, when looking at the Hispanic/Latino population, it appears that majority of the group are actually pretty young... too young to vote, legal or not.

Date: 2015-01-02 12:47 am (UTC)However, anyone born in this country counts as a citizen and I did find several articles saying 800,000 Hispanics turn 18 each year and the majority of those would have been born here.
This is also why the other article pointed out how important they will become.
