Okay, I guess it's time for my Captain America: Civil War post. I did love the movie, just not as much as Avengers or Captain America: Winter Soldier or...sometimes, Guardians of the Galaxy...

I add this preface because I do get ranty at times...

my thoughts

We had the trailer for ROGUE ONE!!! I was so happy to see it on the big screen!!!
My mom said that she identified with the rebel scene. When people want her to stop rooting for Bernie and support Hillary, she says she feels like that scene, "This is a rebellion, isn't it? I rebel."

I was highly disappointed that the specific release date for Rogue One wasn't included because it's my 34th birthday!!!

But then the movie started and I figured out why that wouldn't be such a good idea...

December 16, 1991

My 9th birthday is an important plot point!!! It gets said multiple times! The villain's like, "Tell me about December 16, 1991!"

Daniel Bruhl said my birthday repeatedly. It was awesome.

It totally sucks for Howard, Maria and Tony Stark but they're fictional people so whatever.

I'm sad that Redwing isn't a real falcon but this does make more sense and at least he has a Redwing this way. Phil's newest hand reminded me a lot of Redwing's control unit.

Crossbones is really dead, right? It's not like a Ward thing? Please don't let it be a Ward thing.
And seriously, why did we need that many toys for a character that only has one scene?

WHAT THE FUCK???

They have Maria Stark as a WASP a.k.a. White Anglo Saxon Protestant. Maria Stark was no such thing. How dare you white wash Maria Stark, you bastards!

A lot of people thought the technology with Robert Downey, Jr was cool or creepy and I could hardly pay attention because MARIA STARK IS WRONG!!!

Her maiden name was Carbonell! She was the stereotypical Italian: brown hair, brown eyes, dark skin!

Okay, there are a FEW appearances where she's blond and fair skinned like the film but the latest incarnation was how I described and makes the most sense. When I first found she was Italian, I thought that made so much sense because Tony didn't completely look like Howard so I thought the rest must be Maria but then, the way she was in the film...I couldn't see any of her in him.

Why is it called the September Foundation? Did Sokovia happen in September?

Damn, did they just reveal that the file on Agent Carter was on Michael Carter and he was still alive because here's his daughter/granddaughter?

I had a bad feeling that mean Agent Carter was done that was confirmed less than a week later.

I'm glad that they confirmed Sharon as her niece but...

You never made a move on Sharon in 3-4 years but less than 24 hours after you find out she's Peggy's niece, you kiss her? What the fuck, Steve?

The first time I saw it, I actually said aloud, "What???"
The second time, the crowd alternated between cheering and laughing and then, you have Sam and Bucky cheering him on so it's like...okay, this isn't supposed to be awkward and weird.

Because Sharon's barely in this film and Steve shares a lot more intense, eye fucking sessions with basically...everyone else...and Sharon's Funko is SO Mockingbird!

However, it was a nice touch with Sharon saying the speech about "No, you move." In the comics, it was Steve so I assume he told it to Peggy first which is also why it resonated so much...his own words said back to him and that Peggy had remembered after all these years!

When Natasha fought Bucky and asked about remembering her...dammit, I still wanted the proper comic storyline.

I'm so torn about Vision. I can see how he can come off like a stalker and kind of weird to Wanda, but...
There were times where she seemed to like him as well when he's not being Stark's ass.
However, I don't know if I find them cute together because I should find them cute together or because I want Billy and Tommy and the Young Avengers so very, very badly...

I did love when Hawkeye said he should have stretched first because IN-JOKE!

My mom HATED Peter Parker. She was so disappointed when I said he was the new one that would be in the films and everything. She found him TOO much of a dork. I'm not sure yet...but that could be because the supporting cast is going to be so awesome. I love Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.

The first time I saw it, the clean-up crew for the theatre lied that there wasn't a scene after the credits to try and get us to leave but I knew she was lying so I stayed.

Giant Man! Wow, Paul Rudd was like the third best part of this film. They even did the thing with Ant-Man and Hawkeye!! Second best part was Bucky or as my mom explained it, "I know he was the villain in the last one but in this one, it's like you don't want anything to happen to him. You want to protect him."

First best thing was BLACK PANTHER! Then, I remember how far off his movie is and I get so pissed and Captain Marvel is AFTER THAT!

I was sort of hoping stair car would be more involved but whatever, Arrested Development!!! Also, we had another Community cameo.

When I first heard Bucky would be frozen again, I was upset about it but the way they did it...it worked..
but the editing was sloppy and there's this big gap between Steve and Bucky talking and Bucky being in the chamber that made me think that they spent the time in between making out or something.

Wrapping up that plot point from Agent Carter is literally the only reference to any of the television shows. Even Alfre Woodward is going to be in Luke Cage as a completely different person. I hate them being separate. It feels like they lied all this time about "It's all connected." I suppose it's because Feige hates Ike Perlmutter who runs the television but if you hate him that much, why not have him fired completely instead of shafted to television? It provides no incentive for casual fans to watch the television shows.

Nice birthday present for you. :)

Ever since Grumpy Old Men had their outtakes at the end, I have always stayed to the end of the credits at movies now. :o

Mentioning makes me worried about the sequel. I LOVE the first one so much. :o
Hugs, Jon

On my birthday Nixon signed an environmental protection agreement with the Soviets, which I'm sure was really exciting.

I feel like Ant-Man, Spiderman and Black Panther stole the entire movie. I was a lot more interested in their take on things. Is it weird that I actually wanted more of the politics in this film? The whole Ironman vs Cap felt kinda forced and we never got into the nitty gritty of what the mutant registration act Slokovia Accords would actually MEAN to the superheroes.

But I still enjoyed it and I inhaled my popcorn within the first 20 minutes.

I love that your birthday was in it though LOL! I know how you feel - when I was big into X-Files and Mulder would talk about his sister and say "Samantha" I was in geeky heaven. :P

Have you ever read any of the original Civil War stuff?

On one hand, I totally see your point about politics. On the other hand, Agents of SHIELD has gotten into a lot of the more mundane stuff which I've really liked...and seems to be a big part of season four.

Ugh, I keep remembering things I forgot to put like Clint...

He's forced to go back to Germany for possibly the first time since being there with Loki...but no mention whatsoever even though...
Everyone agreed that Clint wasn't himself and wasn't to blame for what happened so...why can't they see that with Bucky? It's the same thing. If this is all it takes for Tony to snap, I hope he's under the care of an actual psychiatrist.
I really need to get back to it but...my Avengers fanfic had that Sam was studying to be a psychologist.

Oh, you poor thing...it's totally awesome because he says it fairly often but then, there was the show where he decided she was dead after all...

P.S. Middle nephew was born on February 23, I trust you know what's special about that date.

LOL it was even worse because I had written a self-insert fanfic (well, I didn't know that was what it was at the time, being 14 I just thought I was writing a script I could sell to FOX and get on the show haha) where Mulder found a 13 year old girl, bonded with her and used that to come to terms with his sister being gone but also to move ahead and keep searching. I had it all figured out!!!! And then they are like "Meh, she dead." WTF! **still bitter**

I should probably pick up AoS again at some point. I kinda got tired of the cycle of the show, having to tread water until a new movie came out so they could get to the good stuff for the season. Really got annoying when Winter Soldier was in the wings and they had to keep putting off the Hydra reveal...blah.

February 23 sounds familiar but I am totally blanking on why!!! NOW YOU MUST TELL ME BECAUSE IT IS BOTHERING ME LOL

And then you learned never to write self-insert fanfic again...

I also learned my lesson about self-insert fanfic. In early 1999, I had a friend* tell me they were adding a much younger cast member to Buffy who would still be in high school.

*friend's uncle worked for the series

Naturally, I decided to write a fanfic...which is both lucky and unlucky that it was never published online...I decided to write a self-insert fic. I decided I would be like a sister so I had it that Buffy's dad married and his wife had a child, Buffy's step-sister. However, Buffy's dad and stepmother die and the only person who can take in the orphaned child is...Buffy and her mom.

The girl, to their horror, loves the paranormal and has read up on everything so she quickly figures out everything going on and Buffy has to make up new excuses why she's not allowed to help or be involved!

It all seems pretty normal, right?
But it's a self-insert fic and I didn't have the guts to name her Erica so I used my middle name...

You might be able to guess it if you look at my user name...

Dawn

I've never written a self-insert fic since.

AOS is really doing its own thing although I loved how a viewer knew background information about how information was obtained and who built the Helicarrier in Age of Ultron by watching AOS. I thought last season was the best yet.

You forgot Scully's birthday???

OMG LOL that is the best story. Scarred for life.

All my fanfic (which I didn't know it was at the time, I was writing scripts for the shows and had EVERY intention of submitting them once I finished) had me as a guest star. I was convinced I was cursed for awhile because anytime I started a story, the show would get cancelled! I have a few scraps of paper with Quantum Leap (of course I could see Al!), Young Indiana Jones (with Sean Patrick Flannery aged Indy, of course!) and I think a Star Trek TNG one too...all were promptly ended when i started.

To be fair, 13-15 year old me was obsessed with David Duchovny. I admired Scully but I was too hormonal to notice much except for brooding David. NOW it is the other way around, but mostly because he looks like a dirty hobo and Gillian is a GODDESS!

Before fanfic, I called them games because I didn't really write them down except the chronology. I would figure out the character's history dating back to grandparents and then, future going forward 2-5 generations. I thought of it as sort of like Dungeons & Dragons or the other role playing games my brothers played.

Then, I would take that chronology and act it out with action figures and dolls.

In 1997, Buffy premiered and that was the same year that I found the internet. The library even got it but it was The X-Files fandom in 1998 where the official messageboard had a section for fanfiction...that's really where I learned it all.

I still regret how much fanfiction was posted only there and is now lost forever.

The Rogue One Trailer was very good. I'm kind of digging the whole wave of female superheroes/heroes that is in style now.

Crossbones was kind of a big let down, but maybe that's because I was expecting him to be more like how he is in the comics.

I thought Steve was trying to move in on Sharon before, but she wasn't so keen on the idea because of her job?

The "No, you move" speech was fantastically done.

I hope that they do some Bucky and Natasha follow-up in another movie.

I thought Vision seemed respectful, if confused by his feelings for Wanda.

I thought Peter was great BECAUSE he was such a big dork. Peter Parker was never supposed to be the cool kid.

Ant-Man and Hawkeye made good balances to all the super-hero powered craziness. You needed people equally as confused in there.

Black Panther was great. I dug every scene he was in.

Also Sam and Bucky's interactions were priceless.

I really want Bucky up and running.

Yes...although now we need to move past Caucasian female superheroes are awesome to ALL COLORS of female superheroes are awesome.

I want a Shara Bey film, dammit.

He was only in ONE scene and got all that merchandise? He had more Funkos than the Black Widow who's in the ENTIRE movie! Crossbones should have been a let down to everyone no matter their comic book knowledge.

However, I am still glad that he appears to be dead. It would be cool if they bought in Taskmaster.

Even my mom thought they would get together or be on the road to getting together back in Winter Soldier, but everyone was too busy and it's been two years of nothing...because Age of Ultron was freaking packed anyway, you couldn't have one line about wanting to ask Sharon out but not wanting to bring her into all of this?
I would have even been satisfied with some sort of gossip on Agents of SHIELD because come on, are we really supposed to believe that they don't gossip about who Steve could be dating and the size of Thor's penis on their down-time?

YES, BUCKY AND NATASHA!!!
There was this animated film, The Next Avengers. It had Steve and Natasha having a baby boy so they named him JAMES! It was so sad and cute.

Yay, I don't have to feel weird for shipping Wanda and Vision!

My mom understands that Peter is NOT cool. She was totally scared when I told her the Andrew Garfield version was supposed to be "more cool". However, her Peter is more nerdy than dorky. I'm still undecided and wanting to see how he is in his own environment/film...that supporting cast just gets better and better. I really hope it, Thor 3 and Black Panther are the future of the MCU with diversity.
