The Doctor in general likes babies. He talked to Melody Pond's baby Ganger before he realized the baby was, well, a Ganger, and said baby would grow up to be River Song.
There was also that one scene from "Face the Raven" (a couple of seasons or so in real time, and several hundreds of years after Alfie/Stormageddon) where the Doctor wanted to take Rigsy's baby along with him to find out where Rigsy's tattoo came from. He chose not to take the baby because he thought the baby would distract him.
But you may be right about River maybe wanting children. There's a short story (officially released by BBC Books, not fanfiction or anything) where River muses about having children, but she feels she's too busy to have them.
That said, unless Nardole and/or Bill is revealed as the surprise secret child of the Doctor and River, I don't think the Doctor will have an onscreen child for New Who.
