“People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.”

When I was young, I believed as most do in anarchy. No rules would mean all would be equal, right?

Then, I realized that not having rules meant those already with too much power would simply use their power to subjugate others without any checks or balances, leading to a worse outcome than before.

However, I had always believed in V for Vendetta that people should be what keeps the government in check. People should be what the government fears.

January 6 made me rethink that. It shouldn't take seeing things from the other side to understand a different angle, but sometimes, it does. I want a government beholden to its people; not shareholders or CEOs but what the Bible refers to as "the least of these brothers and sisters of mine".

However, I don't want a government scared to go to work. I don't want a government that feels unsafe in their workplace. I don't want a government scared for their family at home. NO ONE DESERVES ANY OF THAT.

So, that leads to rules, that leads to designated protest areas, like the street but not their private residence...the Mall and streets but not the Capitol steps or inside.

So, do I still support blowing up the Houses of Parliament? Is it just like blowing up the Death Star?

I don't know.

The problem is that you want people to be able to go against an unjust government, but there are people who believe that any government not headed by Trump would be somehow unjust. A government like in V for Vendetta deserves correction by the people. But right now, it's just our democratic processes at work, and some people deciding they want a dictatorship.
