So, I've neglected to introduce you to someone...

This is Agent Phil Coulson.

Photobucket

Yes, I totally thought about correcting his birthdate. No, you can't correct their eye color because I've tried that before. The employee gave me this look and finally asked, "Agent Phil Coulson? That sounds familiar, is it from a movie?"
Then, we had a several minute conversation between the three of us about how awesome The Avengers is except for killing off Coulson.

I had the hardest time with his wardrobe. Buildabear doesn't have a regular suit. It's either a coatless ensemble with waistcoat or a tux with bowtie...more James Bond than SHIELD and I already used the waistcoat outfit for my Ianto. I thought about doing the Captain America outfit but it was sold out for a while and then...I wasn't sure.

I thought maybe someone would have Marvel outfits for 3-6 months but apparently not? So, I ended up with this on Clearance at Target. Someday, I'll probably find something more appropriate although mom likes the monkey reference since Phil was around for "I know that reference!"

P.S. Never underestimate the power of Buildabear wishes. Phil coming back is the second time that I've wished something while making an animal and had it come true.

One day in July I saw The Avengers for the seventh time at Brandon...

When I was growing up, I didn't really care about my appearance. I wore hand-me-downs from my brothers or stuff from thrift stores. Wal-mart was a rarity since their clothes were expensive for a limited budget and three kids. I wore vests when it wasn't trendy. I wore t-shirts from the boy's area.

However, I've always been big on pink, purple and turquoise with pink being my absolute favorite.

Pink is actually a hard color to keep as a favorite. It has baggage. A lot of people think pink is the color you say when you can't be bothered with coming up with a real one: the default favorite color for any girl. Then, you get older and people automatically assume you to be old-fashioned and backward. It was as though it wasn't "feminist" to like pink. Now, if wear or buy pink items, people assume you're making as political statement.

"Oh, breast cancer!"

No, I fucking like pink, back off. I'm trying to use my voice more. Before I didn't care, now it's kind of like...if I don't say anything, maybe no one else will.

I often come up with people to aspire to. In real life, they tend to be men. In fandom, they tend to be women. Currently, my fandom hero is Natasha Romanoff especially her sense of style and self-worth.

I know she's sexy and beautiful but it's not like Pepper where her appearance is all about appearances which means the latest styles and expensive shoes.

Natasha is more about what works for her in that situation. It took seeing a photo on Tumblr and seven times of watching it before I realized that she even had earrings on in the interrogation scene. Did her alias Natalie wear skirts? No, it was always pants.

Her SHIELD suit looks like it would be hot so it seems natural that she would keep it zipped down a bit to let in the air conditioning if there is any. I know the cynical view is to think they need the cleavage for the male audience members and this is probably true but it's more fun to think from a character standpoint. She uses her cleavage to her advantage. I've had some experience with this but mostly, I've been shy. I'm the one buttoning every single button while my mom goes, "You don't have to do that..."

It didn't help that having huge boobs from a young age does not make you very popular among your own kind and they teased me mercilessly at the public pool that I should be wearing a shirt over my one-piece swimsuit instead of having "your titties everywhere".

So, I've been trying to be more like Natasha and leave the buttons undone, the pants a little tighter...I even considered bikinis. Plus, I've been trying to let myself be more stereotypically feminine in general without feeling like I'm letting down equality or selling out.

I've even found that dresses can be kind of fun.

My mom recently elaborated on finding "red in my ledger" hokey. She wonders whether in this age of digital accounting people will even understand what she means.

Me: So, she's old-fashioned?
My Mom: Yeah.

I understand how on one hand, the Soviet Union did create a void where people had to make do with older items and ideas. Natasha is also extremely well-read and those with that quality tend to have more appreciation for the older things.

There's also one other possibility...

Movie Natasha is like comic Natasha and actually about 70 years old...

Damn, she's awesome.
ericadawn16: (Whatever)

As if tomorrow, Parkway in Bradenton will no longer be showing The Avengers so to my knowledge, it's no longer on the big screen anywhere.

I know I have my DVD but it's still kind of sad. It's never quite the same.

Initially, when I heard about Kate bishop and how she plays the cello, I thought she'd be the cellist.

Then, people pointed out her age and I read more about her so I have a new theory now.

1. She's awesome at almost everything, not just bows.
2. She plays the cello.
3. She doesn't take crap from anyone,
4. She has blue eyes.
5. She has been known to crush on Captain America...

What if she's the secret love child of Phil Coulson and the cellist?

Of course, this could also be the Clint/Phil shipper talking because they seem to be headed there...

Yes, I know Clint's with Jessica but she's joining the Guardians of the Galaxy...

I love what happens when you give people Sharpies at Taco Bell with the implication that they write a name down...

Photobucket

I just wish they could find a Sharpie when I did it because you can hardly read mine.

Here's the one that tickled my mom the most:
Photobucket

"So, he had a change of heart then?"

Also, Dig on Arrow is AWESOME. I mean I love almost any guy in a suit and when he can also kick ass in that suit...it's all over; my favorite characters ever.

*fingers crossed for fanfic where Dig and Coulson have to team up*

It's always fun to have people follow you. However, in this case, I didn't know who he was...
However, on his Twitter, he seems really nice, hot and is playing villain/s in Thor 2 so go follow him.

IMDB says that I am a moron and should have known him as Mr. Eko on Lost.

Also, I was watching How I Met Your Mother and this happened...

Oh hi, Maria Hill, it's been ages!
Yes, I want fanfic. She needs a bike now.

PS J.K. Rowling is on The Daily Show tonight!

Well, this still sums everything up...

I suppose I should have posted when I found out around 8 PM EST but...the Pheels were too much. I'm surprised space didn't complain about the squeeing.

"Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It's the unspoken truth of humanity, that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power, for identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel."

It was July when we saw The Avengers at Muvico. Afterwards, we were walking through International Plaza when my mom admitted...what made Loki so convincing was that he was right about a lot of things...especially free will.

My mom was raised Methodist in a small town in Indiana in the 50s and 60s which means that her parents were ULTRA conservative. There was no need to decide things for yourself because it was already decided...men couldn't have long hair, no one could divorce, no one could have premarital sex, no one should fraternize with those who aren't also Christians aka Protestant and so on and so on.

It is simpler. My mom has admitted this. When people tell you how to think, you don't have all those problems of thinking for yourself.

Look at all the self-help books so people can tell us how to fix our lives...the diet books to tell us how to eat...the news channels to tell us how to vote. Society even insists on us being restrained and telling us what to do. If we're single, everyone says we should date. If we're dating, everyone says to marry. If you marry, everyone says to buy a house and/or have children. More and more shackles even if some of us are quite happy to add them but the point of it is that society likes to have rules for everyone to follow. Humans do crave an order and rule to their lives and are more than happy to impose it on others in order to "help" them.

The wonderful thing about Booksamillion is that they always have cheap, ten dollars or less graphic novels. They're older but still good and on a previous visit I picked up:
Annihilation Classic

I wanted to know more about the Guardians of the Galaxy and this has several of the origin stories, including Nova, Quasar, Warlock and Rocket Raccoon. First two stories were cool and even included Throg, hehe. I also loved Rocket Raccoon's story as I knew I would. It was a lot more deep than I thought it would be. It was all about government and corporate corruption. A group of humanity was kept insane on purpose in order to sell more toys. Some of the stories were confusing, like the Warlock one. However, apart from Rocket Raccoon, the one I liked the best was Wendell Vaughn aka Quasar. Let me show you why...

Photobucket

Okay, this is like 1978 so I see this and I'm thinking...
This is what Phil Coulson's childhood bedroom would have looked like...

Plus, Wendell wants to be a SHIELD agent and is awesome at everything BUT...he's too nice. I didn't realize that would be such a problem for SHIELD but apparently, it is and his estranged dad has to pull strings so he'll even be put on assignment which happens to be at Stark Industries and leads to Wendell becoming a superhero!

Can someone do this as an AU but with Phil? Because it would be AWESOME!

Here's comic book Phil from the 616 universe:

So, we went to Lakeland yesterday and Toysrus was exceptionally awesome. It had 3 figures of Eleven with his Stetson and one of Amy. Also, they had this blind bag series with various dinosaurs with weapons.

Me (showing my mom): Look, it's DINOSAURS with WEAPONS!
My Mom: That would have changed everything.
Me: I know, it would have been AWESOME!
My Mom: That would not have been the word I would use.

Then, later at the mall, FYE had its usual awesomeness of Doctor Who but also the Marvel Diamond Select Avengers Hawkeye. Here's our review:

My Mom: Oh, WOW...
Me: (Incoherent giggling for two minutes)

This link has a zoom feature when you roll the mouse over it...you're welcome.

Too bad it's $24.99 so I'll stick to my 3.75 inch Hawkeye from Target but Booksamillion had the Doctor Who micro figures Series 2! I now have the Weeping Angel and what the paper refers to as Roman Auton but will always be known to me as Rory the Centurion!

Here, have some classic Renner from 1996.

Ever wondered what Clark Gregg would look like as a woman?

Nope? Well, I'm going to show you anyway...

He really doesn't look that bad...let the fanfic ideas commence...

Remember when we were little and Sesame Street had all those awesome parodies of The 39 Steps and Gone With the Wind and stuff?

Yep, they still got it!

"Oh, we Avengers will save the day while making witty repartee!"

This has to be my new favorite description of The Avengers EVER! This, along with Grover dressed as Eleven and Cookie Monster dressed as Amy Pond, wins the Internet. You may all go home now.

Yes, can we now officially agree that Americans know Doctor Who and it's not just some weird cult British show?

Also, this is Cookie Monster's version of "Call Me Maybe"...

Have you ever wondered what Loki would look like as a penguin?

So, my nephews were watching Regular Show or Adventure Time or one of those and I see Avengers for a split second on the tv.

It's like, Woah...what? What just happened?

It's the Mad TV show. If you have the Western channel for Cartoon Network, it'll be 8 PM PST or 11 PM EST. It's the first cartoon but Hulk cameos through the whole 15 minute show. I was hoping for a better ending but I know a couple of Fix It ideas...

Oh, I totally forgot but EVERYONE gets Loki-smashed by the Hulk, including Joss Whedon himself so if you feel that could be cathartic...you might want to hunt it down...

Also, utter cuteness...and they're coming out with a video game! They better have Lego Coulson in it!
ericadawn16: (Jubilant)
There was a second paragraph that Amazon and others didn't bother with!

The Collection will come in a new briefcase and include even more than the content and features that were first advertised. We know that you are disappointed in this delay, and we are working hard to get your Collection to you as soon as possible. We will have an updated announcement for you in the coming weeks which will include actual timing and final details. Once again, we apologize for the delay and hope that when you do receive the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Collection, you will enjoy it as much as Marvel enjoyed creating it.

Yay! I hope they reveal the details before the 25th. I'm thinking of getting a dvd if I can find one cheap since the set doesn't have dvds so then I'm not paying for it twice.
