If you haven't seen a film at Tampa Theatre, you really need to. It's this beautiful movie house that was built in 1926 as an atmospheric theatre and less than 94 exist in the whole world. The Architect, John Eberson, built 135 movie palaces in his lifetime...now only 50 remain. It's a rarity and a treasure. Like Hogwarts' Great Hall, the ceiling is made to look like the night sky while you are in a Venetian courtyard surrounded by opulence.

Even the exit...

One of the other perks about seeing a film is that you may be lucky enough to witness this...

An organist comes up from the floor and plays several songs, using Tampa Theatre's almost 900 pipes. If you look closely at the middle of this photo, you might be able to spot some of them. This is stage right.

Always nice to see pix of that place... I used to perform there when they had a Rocky Horror cast.

Hehe, the first and only time I've seen Rocky Horror all the way through was at Tampa Theatre in October 2001.

Beautiful. I am very interested in 1920's film, so seeing pics is neat. I bet it looks awesome in person. Do they play silent films sometimes?

Oh yes!

Oops, I was off about the pipes, they say 1,400 there. We're quite lucky in Florida, there is a lot of '20s architecture, including Tampa Theatre, the Coliseum in St Pete (future post) and the Falk Theatre at my alma mater that used to be Park Theatre when it was first built. If you've seen the Thomas Jane Punisher, you've seen the outside of it.
