The Great Debaters and some year end polls of interest

First of all, I did not forget about the Baby Daddy poll and will post the results, but not at this time.

The Great Debaters was AWESOME, not as funny as Charlie Wilson's War but very moving. I became totally invested in those characters and wanting them to do well.

Now, on to Entertainment Weekly and some of the polls contained in its year end issue.

I thought the same thing about Sandman being Ben's killer at first, but by the second time I watched, I liked the twist. Here's a man who just wants to do right by his daughter and he accidentally kills a man trying to do right by his "son." It's horrible and yet, it somehow all worked out although we never find out what happens to Penny, I'm hoping that some of Harry's money is used for her healthcare, but that's me. I tend to like the possibility of the happiest ending possible.

I liked all the threads. Dead Man's Chest and Empire Strikes Back have a lot of things going on as well and they're two of my favorite movies, plus, I'm guessing, Harry was never a real villain since no matter what they planned to do with him, they knew he'd sacrifice himself by the end. I thought the multiple villains were done in a much better way than like, Batman & Robin which was just awful. Each villain had their purpose in Spider-man. It was supposed to be a two-parter movie but I think they did their best in condensing into one film.

Personally, while I understand from a film perspective that 2 is better than 1, I don't even own 2. It wasn't a high priority which I'm not entirely sure why, whether it was being so much darker than 1, having less for Harry to do or Doc Ock's mechanical arms...robots scare me.

To me, 3 was incredibly character driven, but in a triangle, which I loved...maybe even a pyramid if you include Aunt Bea, I can't recall how much she was given. However, you have Peter struggling with relationship issues, professional issues and becoming an idol for the city. Mary Jane is struggling with whether she's really meant to be an actress or is she kidding herself? There's also relationship issues and alienation from society since she doesn't appear to have any friends left except Harry and Peter, but she appeared to be quite popular in high school. Harry is still struggling with his father's death and how to live his life, does he take his father's place? Well, blindly he does since that's a son's duty, but is he correct in doing so? Is it right to turn his back on his best friend? Can he accept that his deceased father was capable of evil?

I admit that I felt a little bad about enjoying the Harry/Mary Jane scene so much the first time. "You like Mary Jane with Peter, they get married, remember?"
However, then I realized that they would just be the Spider-Man equivalent of Norribeth and I like both Norribeth and Willabeth fine so I could be capable of liking MJ with both Peter and Harry. Gosh, I just really loved the whole Twist scene.

The fact that his dark side was represented by bangs and eyeliner just made it that much funnier. The second time I watched, I flattened my bangs after and was like, "Look, now I'm all Emo and evil!" All my friends laughed. We had this huge like half hour discussion over it that night because I liked it a lot more than both my friends with me.

Nope, I guess I don't love POTC unconditionally which is weird to admit because I LOVE CotBP and DMC. I had this huge dilemma last night about whether to watch CotBP on ABC or DMC on Starz, compromised by watching most of CotBP on Abc except for an hour of Life on Mars in between and then the Pacific showing of DMC at midnight. I'm not sure I love anything unconditionally anymore. Everything has faults, whether it's POTC, Spider-Man or DW, because loving unconditionally means overlooking the faults, right? Like they don't even matter?

I had this huge crisis of faith after Jurassic Park 3 and AI, I just hated them so much...

But everyone had a happy ending in Spider-Man, Harry and Eddie were finally free of their personal demons, Harry died as a hero, Peter and MJ would get married eventually, Aunt Bea has adjusted to life without Ben and the Sandman's not dead, but he knows better, too.

I'm not sure why they bought in Gwen Stacey though, she was very underdeveloped.

I've loved James Franco since Freaks and Geeks although he was an ass in that series and Seth Rogen was far nicer. I love Seth Rogen as well and they're going to star in a movie together, woohoo!

Hehe, last night I had a dream that I met Jack Davenport and he kept teasing me because I almost tripped and fell on a bucket right before seeing him.

I did see the James and Harry connection, but I had really hoped they wouldn't share the same fates. I think that and the two bandanna Sparrows were the only disappointments for me in AWE (with all the other Sparrows I understood why they existed).
