There Will Be Blood

ericadawn16I'm trying something new, something I haven't done in years...a movie review. It's not what I did for AWE, which was more like a verbal vomiting of what I felt, though and questioned about that movie, but hopefully, a proper movie review.
It's a bit short but I'm trying to ease back into the saddle.
There Will Be Blood
In dusty, Western wastelands sit seas of oil below the surface whereas a person’s face can hide similar deceptions of character. This is "There Will Be Blood" where a smiling face masks an inner madness.
Although Daniel Day-Lewis is channeling his Bill the Butcher role from "Gangs of New York", it’s still mesmerizing to watch Daniel yet the best parts of this film were when PT Anderson was able to show the tenderness in this character, like when Daniel lets his new son explore his face.
Every good villain needs someone to compete with except the main flaw in this film is that it never develops who should be Daniel’s nemesis: Should it be Standard Oil who is trying to over-regulate the industry? Perhaps Henry who claims to be his brother? Or is it Eli, played superbly by Paul Dano, whose pride might be greater than his supposed love for God?
The question may never be answered, but the journey was worth it despite not measuring up to the films that it’s competing against like "Michael Clayton" and "No Country for Old Men". B+
