Technically, it was my July 4, 2004 cd, but I think it could work for any summer holiday, like Memorial Day, Labor Day, or Flag Day. However, being me, it's not exactly Bill O'Reilly approved, hehe.

Minority -Green Day
We Shall Be Free -Garth Brooks
We Didn't Start the Fire -Billy Joel
America Town -Five for Fighting
America the Beautiful -Ray Charles
Vacation -The GoGos
God Bless the USA -Lee Greenwood
Political Science -Randy Newman
Warning -Green Day
Shiny, Happy, People -REM with the B52s
Get In Line -Barenaked Ladies
The Hands that Built America -U2
State Capitols -Wakko Warner
Summertime Blues -Alan Jackson
The Last Great American -Five for Fighting
We've got to Get Out of this Place -The Animals
Coming to America -Neil Diamond
It's the End of the World as We Know It -REM
Keep on Rockin' in the Free World -Neil Young
The Star Spangled Banner -Dixie Chicks
Danger Zone -Keny Loggins
Mass Destruction -Faithless

While I had wanted to make a Fourth of July happy cd, I did also want an unofficial soundtrack of sorts to Fahrenheit 9/11. I haven't seen anyone else express the opinion, but I really liked the song selection for Moore's last two films.

Since it was July 2004, it doesn't contain any songs off of American Idiot but I do love the two Green Days songs I did pick.

(OT: I also love the French version of "Paint it, Black" that they have in Talladega Nights which is on right now)

When I first played this for my mom, she had never heard "We Shall Be Free" by Garth Brooks and it impressed her since he had always seemed like the stereotypical conservative but he wrote this song which is beautiful and, unfortunately, very liberal. I say unfortunate because the ideas that everyone should have food and everyone should be able to speak their mind without fear have somehow become liberal as opposed to basic human rights as they were intended.

Five for Fighting...I really should check out their newer albums because I loved America Town. I think it was overshadowed by their Superman song so that they became like one hit wonders and their sarcasm was never emphasized as I recall and they are very sarcastic. It's great. However, in the post 9/11 era, you just couldn't get away with having wide radio distribution for America Town and The Last Great American which feature lyrics such as:
"Hail to the chief
Lets just drag them all down
Theres got to be a hero somewhere"
and
"He had a how do you say, ethical like sense
Thats when the president started to giggle"

No patriotic cd would be complete without "God Bless the USA" especially since I still remember all the words from singing it with my friends for a talent show in Second Grade at the height of the first gulf war. We wore red, white and blue ribbons as well as outfits and everything.

I will also use any excuse to have my favorite Alan Jackson song: his version of "Summertime Blues" and to have the Animaniacs...Wakko's my favorite.

The Dixie Chicks did my favorite rendition of the National Anthem. It was sung at the 2003 Super Bowl where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won and was included on a special Bucs cd that I made later that week...that somehow got corrupted. The women sang it like a hymm without feeling the need to show off as Whitney Houston had done. How ironic that weeks later this same group would be accused of being traitors?

I wish I could still get MTVU. It kicks regular MTV's ass. Never did I see Faithless on regular MTV, but the more liberal slanted/ collegiate oriented MTVU had the video for "Mass Destruction" all the time which is what led me to Soundsgreat on South Dale Mabry begging the sales clerk to sell me a copy the day before it was supposed to come out...and he did. He seemed amazed that I'd even heard of Faithless.

Apparently...some people like cheesy films that replicate old B movies...I have one person on my AIM that I play Neopets with and her favorite part of the SciFi channel are the bad movies.

Due to my current work schedule and the way BBCA has been doing DW episodes, I can't watch them!!!

(wails)

I only get to watch DW on SciFi because SciFi has the replay for the West Coast at 11 PM EST. I get home just in time...this was also the case with Torchwood, I'd watch them back to back from 11 PM-1 AM.

If only BBCA would do that with DW...or even for awhile when they they showed the new episode from Saturday on Tuesdays.

The Utopia trilogy are my favorite episodes and I really never thought I'd be saying that about episodes not written by Steven Moffat.

About Ianto and Gwen on DW, do you want screencaps? Hehe, I haven't seen the actual episode but I searched for "Janto" results on Youtube and then defined them by most recent. Apparently, DW takes place some time after EW so it's fresh in their minds but not like yesterday or anything. I feel a bit bad for liking the three of them together.

There was even a new installment of The Ianto Show!!

(squee)

Ooh, Chumbawamba...I actually thought they were a one-hit wonder, thanks for telling me!

That reason works for me :]!

You're a Neopets player =D? Cool, I am, too 8)! What's your username? The one I'm using currently (I have the five maximum allowed accounts- it's a lot of work, but I like to rescue as many pets from the pound as I can :)) as my main account is "petfosterer5986". I actually drew an "Anthroized", or I guess "Neopetized", version of the group shot on the Torchwood season one DVD boxed set cover :}. I decided to do it after reading a topic where someone asked what the best Neopet species is for Gwen Stefani . I can post it on my LJ if you want to take a look :).

Ooh, you work on Saturdays? Bummer :(. In my original response, I said I hadn't been watching Doctor Who much. That's not entirely true- I've been watching it on BBC America because, well... just because, lol :). I remember them doing that for a little while after the season three finale, when they re-ran season one- I think they showed the rest of it during Memorial Day weekend, but I missed it :(. I'm going to catch all of season one someday, grrr... B|. After that, though, they switched it to only every Saturday.

The Utopia trilogy are my favorite episodes and I really never thought I'd be saying that about episodes not written by Steven Moffat.

I like it a lot, too :), especially the interaction between Jack and the Doctor :). One of my favorite moments, in "Utopia": Jack says hello rather flirtatiously to just about everyone he sees, and when he greets Chan'tho, the Doctor cuts in, "Stop it!" Jack's response, "What? Can't I say hello to anyone?" I love that, LOL :D! Speaking of Steven Moffat, I don't know whether or not you've heard it, but apparently, after the end of this current season, he'll be permanently taking the reins of Doctor Who, because Russel T. Davies is, I guess, going to focus his time on Torchwood. Should be very interesting 8]!

About Ianto and Gwen on DW, do you want screencaps? Hehe, I haven't seen the actual episode but I searched for "Janto" results on Youtube and then defined them by most recent.
Oh yes, we love the Janto, hehe (one internationally recognized "pop culture" thing POTC started- combining two characters' first or last names to create a "ship" name ;)) B). Honestly, though, how can you not :)? Both John Barrowman and Gareth David-Lloyd are positively gorgeous C=! On that same site I mentioned in the post before this, someone actually posted screencaps from said Doctor Who episode =). This is the link if you want it- http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16926&start=288.
Apparently, DW takes place some time after EW so it's fresh in their minds but not like yesterday or anything.
Ah, I see :).

Oh, don't feel bad (about liking them as a trio)- for all of Torchwood's first season, and a good part of the second, there was a total love triangle going on, I think. Or rather, to use Ted &Terry's words about POTC, a "love pyramid" involving Jack, Gwen, Ianto, and Rhys. Most fellow fans don't agree with me, but I think the whole Gwen-Jack-Rhys triangle was resolved after Gwen finally married Rhys. The Jack-Ianto-Gwen one, though, I'm not so sure about. Also, if Captain John ends up popping in more often in the next seasons, however many there are, we may get another "love pyramid", this time with Jack, Gwen, Ianto, and Captain John, but we'll see :).
There was even a new installment of The Ianto Show!!

Ooh, what's that =}? Do tell B)!

Sure, no problem :)!

I just NeoFriended you, I'm erica_dawn.

"I have the five maximum allowed accounts-"

What? I thought you were only allowed one account per email address?

"I can post it on my LJ if you want to take a look :)."

YES!!! One of my good friends in high school used to draw Buffy, Angel and X-Files that way...not Neopets specifically because this was before it existed. Of course, Mulder was a Fox.

I like watching the marathons on SciFi, but so far, it's only been first and second seasons and I'm looking forward to the third season being used that way.

Actually, my mom saw quite a bit of the Jenny episode from this season so when SciFi was showing season two on a marathon, she asked if Rose was Jenny.

For first season, you should check your local PBS station although they might have moved on to second season by now as well. HOWEVER, PBS shows DW Confidential which SciFi and BBCA do not. I got to see Jack's butt, I got to see Jack's butt!!

(I'm actually chanting it like Jeffy going "Susan, Susan, Su-san."

Yes, I know about Steven's new role...I just haven't heard anything about Rusty concentrating on Torchwood...I still want a Steven episode of Torchwood, dammit!

(one internationally recognized "pop culture" thing POTC started- combining two characters' first or last names to create a "ship" name ;))

Actually...no...as much as I would love to credit POTC with this, I cannot.

While the originator of the term "shipping"did not resort to this, the second fandom did. The earliest combining of names in fandom that I can find is a story on fanfiction.net that was published May 26, 2001 and uses the term "Spuffy" to describe Spike and Buffy. Now, why did Buffy start this and X-Files did not? Other Buffy fans tending to be younger?

I don't know, I would have blamed Bennifer, but apparently, Spuffy predates Bennifer which means that the real people to blame for the combining celebrity names are...Buffy fans unless someone can find an earlier usage.

I can no longer log into AU...it happened quite some time ago. It happened after I argued over the definition of censorship, argued about giving in to the Scientologists illogical demands and crashing the wedding of James Norrington and an AU member which was a fake wedding anyway...

However, shortly after all that, I found that I could no longer Log into my account even after resetting the password and everything so I'm pretty sure I'm banned. I could look at the link, but LJ is easier. I prefer LJ and Messengers, even Facebook and Myspace over forums for the most part since forums are usually limiting to staying on topic and whatever whereas the others let you actually know a person. I loved the part in Meat where Jack's like "Now that was very Homoerotic." In that moment, I kind of wanted the whole foursome to get together, but Gwen and Ianto are very cute as friends and I hope that's exploited more.

Ooh, you haven't heard of the Ianto Show? Then, you are in for a treat.

Cool :)! As soon as I do my daily stop at the site to feed my pets, I'll accept it :). Nope, five is the maximum, but only that many. There are, of course, some rules you must follow or you put yourself at risk of being frozen, i.e. if you have more than the one account, you can only earn Neopoints and do dailies on one of them, the rest, you're limited to using one as a guild account and/or the others for adopting pets (the latter option is what I do with my other four, though all but one already have four pets on them :]). Okay, will do, as soon as I find my photo card reader and put the pictures I took of it on my Photobucket album :). Until then, here's a brief description of who I made what-
1. Jack- A blue lupe
2. Gwen- A green acara
3. Ianto- A blue gelert
4. Owen- A gray lupe
5. Tosh- A green gelert
Of course, Mulder was a Fox.
Of course, lol ;D.

Ah, just the opposite of my problem, then :).
For first season, you should check your local PBS station
Thanks for the info, I'll do that :).
I got to see Jack's butt, I got to see Jack's butt!!
Ooh, lovely B). I haven't had that opportunity yet, but I did like the half-naked Janto bit in "Adrift" ;). Such lovely men, both of them, SIGH =3.

I just haven't heard anything about Rusty concentrating on Torchwood...
I don't know if that's the main reason production of Doctor Who has been turned over to Steven Moffat, but it's probably one of the biggest ones.

I still want a Steven episode of Torchwood, dammit!
Yeah, the fact that hasn't yet materialized is a mystery to me, too, since Jack was originally his creation. But maybe we'll see a Steven Moffat-penned episode in the future. I hope so :).

The earliest combining of names in fandom that I can find is a story on fanfiction.net that was published May 26, 2001 and uses the term "Spuffy" to describe Spike and Buffy.
Oops, my bad :]. It's just that POTC has become such a force in pop culture that it didn't even cross my mind that its fans were not the first to come up with that.

shortly after all that, I found that I could no longer Log into my account even after resetting the password and everything so I'm pretty sure I'm banned.
With me, it's not so much I've been banned as I hardly ever go on there anymore. I went on pretty regularly when I first became a member, but I haven't since, oh, probably when you were still a member :}. Now, I only browse around on there if I happen to get an e-mail letting me know a new comment has been added to one of the topics I've posted in, but that's it. Some of that probably has to do with the fact that I'm not as big a fan of LOTR as I am of say, POTC, Torchwood, or Doctor Who, but a good part of it is also that with fansites like that, unless you become a member early on in its creation, you hardly ever get noticed, even if the topics you post on don't have anything to do with the fandom the site was set up for :/. I agree about the forums, too. You just don't have as much freedom and opportunity to interact with others as you do on things like LJ.

I know, what a great one-liner :D! And Gwen's reaction, "No, no, no.", too funny , :D! It seems like either Jack or Ianto (mostly Ianto) always get the best one-liners in episodes :).
I kind of wanted the whole foursome to get together
It wouldn't have been too unexpected, as it seems both Jack and Ianto were perfectly happy to let Gwen join in on the fun of "naked hide-and-seek" even though she'd just walked in on them :].
Gwen and Ianto are very cute as friends and I hope that's exploited more.
They certainly are :). I liked the way Ianto helped out Gwen with her "mission" in "Adrift". I imagine that, without the presence of Owen and Tosh, and provided season three doesn't spend a large amount of time "introducing" the new team members to the audience , we'll probably get more insight into Jack, Ianto's, and Gwen's relationships with each other. It should be great :)!

Unfortunately, I haven't :|. Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to check it out :)!
