Torchwood: Submission

Sometimes, it seems like "sir" is code for saying "I love you" in front of others...
I didn't like Carli. It's not that she's Ianto's ex. They had a slightly nice moment together, but the fact that the actress talks very stilted, even before she's possessed. It's like she's used to doing adverts or nature programs but not actual dramas.
Ianto: It's not like that, I love him.
Yay!
Ianto: But it's not going to last.
Boo!
Even if we're assuming he's referring to high mortality rate for Torchwood employees, it's still depressing especially since he was right, as always. The other part of the exchange is curious though about wanting to do things differently and putting her through that. Did he cheat on her with Lisa, or was it just that obvious or something else?
Then, again, she also doesn't seem that surprised at Ianto with a man. Again, I know Rusty had Ianto say it's not men in general, just Jack but he still comes off like a guy who hadn't really considered the possibility before Jack came along because his upbringing didn't seem like the most accepting one. I've known several guys who didn't realize or didn't feel comfortable coming out until they'd been in at least one female relationships. One even had sex "just to make sure".
Now, I'm listening to The House of the Dead but it's a little confusing since I thought it took place after CoE?
