In the 23 most "civilized" nations of the world, 80% of those killed by guns will be American.
Around 30,000 Americans will be shot and killed this year, just as last year and the year before that.

I'm faced with NRA ads on television about how Obama will take away our guns and how that will be devastating...they even imply that guns are the only way women can walk alone.

They won't even reinstate the bans on automatic and semi-automatic weapons, in what alternate universe are they banning handguns?

I understand that some people like guns AND can be responsible with them. If someone wants to hunt and use every piece of the animal that they murder, I'm fine with that, too.

However...No, the second amendment does not give you that right. The second amendment gives you the right to have arms AS part of a militia which means proper training, plus, having to protect our nation.

Less than ten percent of the population has served in our armed forces so they want to have arms without really understanding the militia part...
I thought letting civilians have Humvees in the form of Hummers was stupid, too.

I know I shouldn't let the tv ads get me so upset but the nation gets upset after Tucson, after Aurora, after Milwaukee and then, we do...nothing. We end up just accepting it.

My fellow Americans! =D

One week from Tuesday we go to the polls to vote for President. By now I'm sure almost all of us know who they are going to cast their votes for. But it's important to remember that 36 states will also be voting on a total of 176 additional measures. I remember four years ago- my first presidential election- I was surprised and confused to find that I was voting on additional measures- not just for President- and I was totally unprepared. So I guessed. Guessing, I think we can agree, is not a particularly good strategy for a democracy, especially a first world democracy where so many of us have near-constant access to information.

So I'm asking you to do your research. This page lists all the measures that will be on the ballots on November 6th, divided by state. At the very least you should read the articles on each measure before you go to vote. These questions should not be new to you or take you by surprise when you arrive at your polling place. Know what you are voting on. Same sex marriage and marijuana legalization are just some of the many important subjects being voted on. Know if they're being voted on in your state, and understand what a yes vote or a no vote will mean.

To make this as easy as possible, I've compiled this handy list. All content is originally from Ballotopedia:

Just when I think I can't possibly love Joss Whedon more, he goes and does this:

"You need to ask yourself: Am I ready? Am I ready for the purity and courage of Mitt Romney's apocalyptic vision? Mitt's ready. He's not afraid to face a ravening, rasping horde of sub-humans because that's how he sees poor people already."

Have I mentioned lately how much I love The Sarah Jane Adventures?

It seems to be the only Russell T. Davies series to have gotten better as it went on. Season three is just awesome and season four has Matt Smith. I can't wait to get my hands on season five.

*crosses fingers that Barnes and Noble has a Brit tv sale again soon*
