I'm very happy that women will be in combat. Obviously, I'm not happy about people being in harm's way but if a person is able, they should be able to do whatever they truly desire whether they're male or female.

Megyn Kelly was interviewing this guy, really kicking his ass and I loved it until...she said basically apologized and said how she had to represent "the other side".

NOO! YOUR POINTS WERE VALID! HE WAS A MORON!

He was talking about how men would be distracted by having females and being in a tense situation, they would naturally fall on love...

Really, the same logic that makes countries force women into clothing constraints? Plus, as she pointed out, Matt could easily fall for Matt just as much as Molly if being in a tense situation is all you need...

Then, he said how women were physically and emotionally different...

I mean he says that and I hear how racist assholes used to say that Black men were also physically inferior and thus, should not be in combat situations. Yeah, they proved them wrong and women will, too.
I also think he might be referring to the myth that men are mentally stronger than women. This is very damaging because it leads men to NOT ask for help when they need it.

Finally, he said in order to make things more equal, they'll have to lessen the requirements to allow unqualified women for combat...

Oh, lessen the requirements? You mean like in 2005 and 2008 when the military lowered requirements about test scores and high school dropouts?

To be truthful, males and females do have different fitness and physical standards in some aspects of the military but they have stated all combat troops will be held to the same standards.

Also, there are sadly a lot more male on male rapes in the military than are reported.

I know Facebook is known for things that piss people off but I generally just ignore it all...

Except this...

A guy was complaining that it's possible that money will be used out of the Doctor Who budget to make "An Adventure in Space and Time" and how that might mean less money for the anniversary episodes. The complaint was that they didn't care about "An Adventure in Space and Time".

An Adventure in Space and Time is going to be a dramatized retelling of how Doctor Who came to be.

It matters. It's important and not just because it's about Doctor Who.

In 1963, you had Mervyn Pinfield, Verity Lambert and Waris Hussein.

Pinfield was a 51 year old white male who had spent the majority of his life working in the theatre and had only joined BBC three years before...

Lambert was a 27 year old female on her very first producing job.

Hussein was a 24 year old Muslim who had been born in India and had only directed three times before.

Somehow, three people with very little television experience and who were very different from one another made the longest lasting science fiction series of all time...and this was in 1963.

Now, we're in 2013 and how many women producers can we name? How many Muslim or Indian directors can we name?

This is why the television movie is important.

Also, BBC could make so much more money if they simply made a worldwide television license.

Red Dawn

So, I saw Red Dawn two months ago but never made an actual post about it. This is it. I should note that I have never seen the original.

The whole premise is that the Russians and North Koreans band together to take over the United States. Honestly, they kind of lost me already. I didn't quite get why...I mean, at least in the original cut of this, it was Chinese so they could just be collecting their debts. Then, they decided not to piss off China and thus...North Korea.. The, there was the gun thing. I was born and raised in Florida. I know what kind of arsenals people have that they've bought from friends, gun shows or over the internet...all the loopholes. You can't tell me that people aren't going to see strange people in strange uniforms parachuting over their house and NOT try to shoot them down? Especially in Florida, they'd just claim "Stand Your Ground". Then, I thought maybe that was why they picked the pacific northwest? They thought there were more pacifists there who didn't have guns?

However, they did address this...to an extent. There are later guns and things. They do admit that Florida, Georgia and Alabama did not fall or if they did, they beat them back. There were some other places, too.

Now the movie is only 93 minutes long.

93 minutes

Like a Disney animated film...

Since it is only 93 minutes, it felt truncated. Characterization was shorted. There were little snatches of romance here and there. There wasn't a feeling of an overall plan. Josh Hutcherson and Connor Cruise seemed to be boyfriends but this was never really addressed. It felt like a television series where you had filmed the pilot and the season finale but then, you got canceled so all you had was the first and last episodes. Then, you turned those into a movie even thought there was basically no in between.

I did like that there was actually an Erica and it appears that in the original, she was played by Lea Thompson. Yay, Caroline in the City!

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is only 88 minutes. I'm not sure when I'm seeing it. The local theatre is only showing it in 3D.

3D

Imagine the redband trailer in 3D...I'd rather not. Mom has also remembered how I couldn't get her to go to Cabin in the Woods and that had Chris Hemsworth AND Joss Whedon so she's decided that it would probably not be a good idea to see it.
