This film was so pretty!

I was a little sad it was a boy. I thought it was a girl from the trailers because of the long hair which was very sexist of me. It was a little weird how Caucasian this film is when all its main characters are Asian.

Still, it was a totally original story with lots of neat elements and I can't stress enough how pretty this thing is. It's from Laika, the same animation company that bought you Coraline.

I accidentally had Amazon Prime briefly. I pressed the wrong area when the App. booted up and it forced me into their free one month trial. Naturally, it was during a very busy month so I didn't have much time with it...and it didn't help matters that I had to download an additional App. to watch stuff. Really? That was the initial reason why I didn't download Facebook Messenger. Everything should be in one App.

So, I really only got to use it to watch Ex Machina and Doctor Thorne.

I LOVED Doctor Thorne! The title character is played by Tom Hollander who almost never gets to play this adorable, doting dad figure. The writing was Julian Fellowes. There was also Alison Brie who I see and it's like, COMMUNITY!

How come she hasn't been in a Marvel film yet? Jeff, Troy and Abed have all been in one.

Also, Tom Hollander should be in Marvel, too. Then, Marvel can have ALL the Toms with last names beginning with H and the confusion would be amusing but in a less cruel way than stealing artificial limbs.

Pete's Dragon

ugh

First of all, I loved the original. I did. I love almost all of the films where Disney had cartoons drawn into live action.

However, it's not like this could be totally terrible. It had potential. I definitely saw their point of view where modern advances in CGI could have a a really awesome looking Elliot. In theory, the fur was an intriguing idea. I have some personal canon for a fantasy universe where most dragons are mammals and start off with fur.

In reality, he reminded me of a large, green Sully.

The story was ugh...I wanted so much more from the mystery of Elliot ending up in the woods. Looking back now, I think Stranger Things is more similar to how I wanted it to go down but with Elliot being awesome and not eating people like the Demogorgon.

The direction was lazy, too. Oakes Fegley is actually a decent actor but this movie didn't prove that at all. There's something about Bryce Dallas Howard that makes me assume all her characters will be a bitch and Robert Redford...I probably watched Captain America: Winter Soldier too many times prior to this film so I didn't trust him either.

The real villain is Karl Urban who doesn't come off as well either. He had a much more well-rounded, better written character that provided better acting opportunities with Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok and he's BARELY IN THAT FILM!

Also, Oregon/Washington and New Zealand are not the same. I'm guessing they think it's been a few years since a Tolkien film, it's fine...no one will notice...but we do, we totally do. Also, the schoolbus was wrong. I know I went to a poor district but are you telling me that a school district in the forest with mostly lumber employees is going to be rich? I started kindergarten in 1988 and my bus looked way older than this bus that was supposed to be 3-5 years before that.

Yep, it's 80s which is probably another reason why I'm so quick to compare it with Stranger Things. I might have different thoughts on it if I saw it in 3D so that Elliot's fur and flying were cooler.

I love Bridget Jones and I will forever be grateful to Helen Fielding for creating her and that world but this is one of those rare times when all the films are better than the books. Still, I was a little apprehensive. I like her with Darcy and I hated how the columns handled the pregnancy. Yes, the film is based off the columns, not the book where Fielding kills off Darcy.

I was the youngest one in the auditorium. I was the only person to recognize Ed Sheeran. I heard someone even ask who he was.

I really wanted them to find some excuse to have Shirley Henderson and Emma Thompson in a scene together. Moaning Myrtle and Professor Trelawney!

The journey to the hospital was kind of ridiculous but that's Bridget.

Also, I'm usually not one to complain about such things but the photo at the end of the happy family was the WORST photoshop I had ever seen and I couldn't believe they left it in the film.

Still, it was cute and I'm glad they made it. I'm just sad there was no Daniel and Darcy interaction. It had McDreamy which felt weird like, We need an American in the cast! Americans love these films!
