Christopher Robin
Sep. 28th, 2018 11:47 pmI never did a proper movie post.
Before seeing it, Christopher Robin could have gone either way. It could have been an excuse to have Pooh in more modern surroundings and humor like the ads had for Paddington or it could be a beautiful nostalgia fest.
My mom was especially concerned. She almost didn't go. With her health problems, it was the first film she had seen all year.
She loved it so much that she said she didn't care if she went to anything else.
Yes, it was sad to see how adulthood had warped Christopher Robin so much but it was needed. Our current world is so wrapped up in modern worries and money troubles that we barely even let kids be kids, much less adults. However, it's necessary to have our imaginations, to be happy, to do things without a schedule and be out in the sunlight.
Of course, Christopher Robin is played by Ewan McGregor for maximum adorableness and you have his wife played by Hayley Atwell a.k.a. PEGGY CARTER! OBI-WAN KENOBI MARRIED TO PEGGY CARTER! That's like one of the greatest AUs ever and of course, their kid is awesome, too.
Pooh and his friends are absolutely perfect. I felt like I could reach out and cuddle them. Thank goodness, they kept Jim Cummings as the voice for Pooh and Tigger. The others are celebrities like Rabbit being Peter Capaldi.
Then, there's those credits. You may have seen Pooh and his companions on the beach? That's the credits BUT this film is a love letter to true Disney fans and playing a piano on the beach is none other than Richard M. Sherman singing a brand new song. That's THE Richard M. Sherman who, with his brother, wrote just about every song we associate with classic Disney and many still found in the parks.
I know it's not supposed to be the case but I just assume any character played by Mark Gatiss will be evil and it's usually true except for the Doctor Who episode I'm currently watching. Mackenzie Crook has a brief cameo, too.
Considering how the idea of a childhood friend coming back to teach the adult the lessons they forgot and how to be a better parent is also the plot of Mary Poppins Returns...I don't know how it could top Christopher Robin.
