Top Five Scariest Moments on Television
Apr. 3rd, 2011 03:28 pmWith the coming Doctor Who season, it got me to thinking...what have been the top five scariest moments on television? I'm not counting the real horrors, like war, 9/11, Katrina, etc.
#5. It November 18, 1990
Because when you think wholesome family entertainment, It naturally comes to mind, right? I mean, it's got the guys from Night Court and Three's Company so it can't be that bad...oh, by the way, it's about a clown who kills small children.
I was seven and constantly closing my eyes until my mom and brothers got annoyed, saying, "It's only the music, NOTHING is happening! You're going to miss everything."
I was also annoyed once the characters grew up because I really liked the child actors. Years later, I would find out those child actors included my future Buffy crush, Seth Green.
#4. Freddy's Nightmares October 8, 1988 – March 12, 1990
That's right, I was even younger and even though I had never seen any of the actual Freddy Krueger movies, I knew how it worked. I was convinced he was going to kill me in my bed.
#3 Doctor Who June 9, 2007
Weeping Angels! Otherwise know as, now even inanimate stone statues will scare the crap out of you...
#2 Doctor Who May 5, 2006
There's a creepy child with no face and makes you the same way! Run!
#1 Buffy the Vampire Slayer December 14, 1999
This is THE episode that all other "scary" episodes have to be compared with and generally...there really is no comparison. The Gentleman are seriously freaking scary.

Oddly enough, the Angels don't really scare me all that much. Now, the clockwork dudes from Girl in the Fireplace? Aw hell naw. The smilers in Beast Below unnerved me, too. I think I have Uncanny Valley issues--same reason the Gentleman creeped me out so much.

1. A made-for-TV movie that had a witch's coffin inside a tree... I was very young when I watched that and it freaked me out for some reason. I have no idea what the movie was.
2. I once saw a picture - probably a TV episode - where a person got sucked inside of a wall and disappeared. That one scared me. It was probably on Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits, as we used to watch those kind of shows all of the time. I was probably about 5 or 6 I guess.
3. The Wizard of Oz. YES, that picture scared me as a kid and I still strongly dislike it. It's the scene where Dorothy's house gets picked up by the tornado and the witch is riding the broom in the swirling winds and laughing. That scene REALLY scared me. We DO get tornadoes here and I think that is why it scares me so much.
4. I very vaguely recall some movie / episode about something locked in a trunk (a creature, I guess) and that later it gave me nightmares. Once again I was probably 5 or so....
I used to watch all sorts of stuff on TV as a kid, even saw JAWS. Seeing Godzilla smashing cities was normal or following the adventures of Captain Kirk and even watching JR Ewing battle it out with Cliff Barnes over oil (and knock each other into swimming pools at weddings). Old monster movies, the Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, etc.
I remember IT, I think. Is there a scene in it where a person sticks his/her hand into one of those things in the sink that chops up stuff? THAT part freaked me out and gave me shivers.....
Freddy K is just WAY too scary. I won't watch his movies except for "Freddy Vs Jason" where Jason beats him up! LOL
There were a few horror movies I saw that were sickening (gross) but not scary. One is "Hostel". Another is "May". Those are sick movies!
Oh, and one scene in "Final Destination" scared me (think it might have been the second movie?)..... where there is the big accident on the highway and all of those poles come off of some flatbed truck and they go through the windshield of a car.... CREEPY. I was once driving in a pickup with my friend Fred and there was a flatbed in front of us and I made him pull back because of that movie scene!
I recall some other creepy movie I once saw on TV, about some teens / young adults looking into a mirror and calling someone. It was similar to Freddy K in nature, supernatural. I think it was "Urban Legend" or "Candyman" or one of those... not sure of the movie's name.
