Torchwood a Bit
Jul. 24th, 2011 12:28 amI haven't heard the last two radio plays or all of the show from last night so...
I have one main thing to say about The Devil and Miss Carew
Tabby, Tabby! TABBY!!!!!
Now, despite my Passions viewership predating and exceeding Torchwood, I was still surprised at how happy I was to hear Juliet Mills again. If you aren't familiar with Passions, well, I wouldn't have been if not for Spike...
Yes, it was all William the Bloody's fault. If a frustrated vampire can like a soap opera, well, I figured...must be something special there. It did, at first...it had witches and curses and a talking doll and...you get the picture. As time went on, it got more normal but it was too late, I was hooked. It ended a few years ago and I didn't realize how much I'd missed it until her voice came on.
(sigh)
It just felt right and normal to have all three there.
Torchwood 4.02 aka Are we sure Jack's not pregnant?
Just saying, puking and looking horrible and drinking coke, that's my first response...but poison does make more sense, of course.
I'm going to assume that was the fever talking...The common cold's out to get you, sure...
Now if I hadn't been told this was Doris Egan's episode and had seen how we have to solve the case of how he was poisoned and how to cure him in an unusual way using a team of people...yeah, I think I could have guessed which episode was from a House alumnist.
Rex, I keep wanting to like you, but you're a dick...I just hope any softening or explanation doesn't take as long as Owen did. I hated Owen at first especially first season. It wasn't until the backstory with Katie that I saw how tragic and damaged he really was.
And then there's Esther, literally Tosh 2.0...
STOP MOONING OVER REX, ESTHER! It NEVER works!
Actually, I kind of ship her and Jack, apart from the implications with Gwen, they do remember that Jack isn't mutually exclusive with fucking guys right? Men, women, tentacle creatures?
Yes, I get people smoke but that doesn't mean I get to like it and that whole smoking exchange just seemed pointless. I guess I would get it a little better if we find out it's another bit like having a watch with no battery so you can ask people the time in order to have a conversation with them. However, at least when you're lying about a watch, you're not ruining your own health. I know no one can die anyone but this smoking isn't something new.
I still hate Oswald Danes and considering how much shit just the Casey Anthony jurors are going through...I don't find this realistic at all. He'd be lynched...repeatedly.
I admit it, I can understand stuff like how a baby can be part Time Lord or why two planets sharing an atmosphere is very, very bad but not the whole antibiotic humans as incubating germ farm stuff.
I liked Gwen a lot, being all concerned and yelling.
I did love the ending, I think that was my favorite part. It felt more like old times.

Date: 2011-07-24 01:40 pm (UTC)Her husband, Maxwell Caulfield, was actually my first crush. I still maintain that they are why I love older woman/younger man pairings.
I actually did watch Passions (I'm a soap fan/addict - which one depends on the day or who you ask) and it really was a bit different even up to the end.
Now I want to see her on screen in either TW or Who.

Date: 2011-07-24 04:57 pm (UTC)Gawd now part of me wants the whole pregnant Jack thing, its horrible and I know it but damn would it be funny.
As for the people he might get in a relationship with I don't mind depending on how they do it if he is focusing on men in a 'hurt still trying to find a replacement for' whereas the kitten-tastic Esther I wouldn't mind pairing with him post-series if possible. I am hoping she gets to be permanent and we can have her after or near the end of the series in a hey let me help you ADORABLE.
Sorry, I just think of her like in the first episode she was a kitten unraveling a ball of yarn and in the second episode she was a kitten pouncing about being sneaky in a kitten way.
I was figuring the smoking scene was part redhead is doing it for sake of her being somewhat evil. As for Doctor Juarez it would be more of a point of contradiction.
God, I am hoping miracle day doesn't do a dead Ianto equivalent.... I am still considering favour for Rex making the baby go back I'd have liked more Rhys but not at the risk they would play the dead baby card and don't ask me how they'd manage that in a series where people can't die but it's Torchwood I won't doubt it can happen.

Date: 2011-07-24 08:58 pm (UTC)What I really want is for Rex and John Hart to have to deal with each other.
Am I the only one who thinks of the house in Blink (Wester Drumlins) every time someone says Esther Drummond?

Date: 2011-08-03 06:01 pm (UTC)How about we assume he's pregnant until proven otherwise? He might not even know it.
They wouldn't kill Anwen but that still leaves Rhys and Andy...

Date: 2011-08-14 09:37 pm (UTC)Her Rhys and Andy and Anwen=not.
Have you seen the latest ep? I've gotten positively ridiculous with my theorizing on what's going on at this point based on it.

Date: 2011-08-20 02:15 pm (UTC)I got as far as goal of either power, immortality for the extradimensional beings by feeding off the eternal energies they figured out how to imbue into humans or something happened to their home dimension and they are making this their anchor to take over this universe.
My brother is of course running on more religious theories a twisted adam and eve tale or something like that because he argues Torchwood defaults to catholicism warping a fair bit and we shouldn't discount that the terms do have a certain ring there, the triangle could be the father, son and holy spirit and Jack could be one of the three by how things roll. He covers the it adds a layer of depth and what if, is not exactly aliens, or humans, and not as vague as extradimensional beings and would definitely be a way of being true to the series and catering to the American audience.
