Now, mom and I were extremely excited about Cowboys vs. Aliens since Daniel Craig is freaking hot especially when beating people up although she did admit to being reminded of Cad Bane. It must have been the hat.

We were a bit scared at first because most of the audience were old people, not sure why. I also did not appreciate how certain old people feel a need to wear enough perfume for the rest of the country. Perfume is for your own personal space and that alone. My throat started to hurt by the end and I was very thankful I didn't get into a coughing fit.
One of the things that intrigued me about the film was whether it would be like The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr especially with the steam punk. Not so much it turns out but just enough that I wasn't looking to nitpick over historical inaccuracies. Sam Rockwell was adorable.

Quit killing people I like!

And by that, I mean Adam Beach who I've liked since Smoke Signals. If you haven't seen that one, you really should or even better, read the book, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven.

Anyway, Adam has this lovely role where he idolizes Harrison Ford's character like a father but Harrison doesn't realize it until almost the end. Then, they have this sad, wonderful scene where Harrison is holding him but still...it would have been nice if he lived. There is also some nice irony that the aliens are doing to Earth what the Europeans did to the indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere.

There's this scene with a little boy and the alien which reminded my mom of Super 8 but I think it goes back further than that because there was that scene with Tim and the raptor in the kitchen in Jurassic Park.

Although, isn't it really, really, really convenient that the alien would expose its innards in order to kill you so you can easily kill them instead?

I loved it; just the level of fun I was expecting from Jon Favreau and Steven Spielberg.

Crazy, Stupid Love was great, too. It was well cast and a wonderful script that had one of the biggest unexpected twists all year.
Emma Stone is the oldest child of Steve Carell and Julianne Moore which now seems so right that I wonder why it didn't happen sooner. I loved how Steve Carell was then given the upper hand over Ryan Gosling especially when he slapped him...my only problem is that I was curious who Hannah's friend would end up with.

Now, I love The Smurfs. I'm a child of the 80s so...duh and then you add Neil Patrick Harris...but it could have been better. Neil was very sedate and I was expecting bigger although the emotional moments for his character were very cute. I also felt they could have been directed better about how to interact with The Smurfs. I was catching them using techniques developed on Who Framed Roger Rabbit? which was over twenty years ago...
However, the Smurfs were adorable. I kept staring at their eyes. On the cartoons, they're just black but now they've blue marbles of expression and just beautiful. Also, Gutsy Smurf is played by Alan Cumming and Vanity Smurf by John Oliver.

I did have one quibble. If Gargamel is banished forever...doesn't that change the whole point? I just can't picture it.

So...it seems we had a very similar weekend lol!

My mom and I went to see Cowboys and Aliens on Friday night. Over all I really enjoyed it. I love Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig, and the combination of...well...cowboys and aliens, worked for me. I did have to get past the hatred I went in with for Olivia Wilde for ruining House for me. Nothing in this movie changed my mind about her. The first half she just kind of stared from the shadows practically screaming "LOOK AT ME I'M MYSTERIOUS!" Then the second half I thought would have been much more interesting if they hadn't had a convenient alien to tell them everything they needed to know about the bad aliens. That character aside I really did enjoy it.

Then Sunday afternoon my mother and I ventured out again to see Crazy, Stupid Love. We both thought it was one of the best movies we've seen in a long time. Loved it!

I didn't see the Smurfs. I'll probably netflix it purely for Neil Patrick Harris.

I have learned as a result of my career choices two things, one old people progressively loose their sense of smell and thus the over perfuming can be a result of losing track of age old wisdoms about perfume application *one to two light spritz, or dab onto pulse points such as a wrist and transfer that dab to other wrist and base of neck* and instead think - perfume must be defective I will spray it until I smell it.

The other possibility and it is terrible to say is they might be wearing diapers. Some of the worst offenders are those wearing adult diapers and they get the scented ones which reek of awful perfume when the person wets themselves and I actually would prefer the smell of their feces/urine over that scent if I was stuck choosing between the two- at least the urine/feces don't give me a headache, but they don't and they seem to believe noone will notice but the smell is a very specific chemical floral death smell.

Yup, this is where I trailed along to from reading cowboys and aliens recap from you ^_^'

I'm glad to hear Crazy, Stupid Love is good. The trailer got me interested, but sometimes those are really misleading.
