Jumanji

I had a meme on Facebook where you were given an actor and you had to name their movie that you hate. For Patricia Clarkson, that was Jumanji. Someone said that was because I was an adult and Jumanji is a kid's film.

I have never liked Jumanji.

Even as a child, I liked the illustrations in the book but the story had the same problems as The Cat in the Hat. I love Dr. Seuss and his creations BUT when it comes to that book, I'm the fish. I would always wonder why, why won't they listen to the fish???

Both books concern spoiled brats who are bored and end up finding a solution that basically destroys the house. I know, everything is restored in the end but it still seemed so wrong. their parents worked hard for that house and those possessions and the kids are so thoughtless.

Now, obviously the movie had Kirsten Dunst and Robin Williams which was cool but the announcer might as well been saying, "We thought we'd cash in on that new CGI craze started by Jurassic Park and if you liked dinosaurs eating people, you'll LOVE animals acting crazy in the city!"

Whenever it was shown at middle school, I was so disappointed because I preferred when they showed The Lion King and then we could make comments about JTT and how cute he was even if it was just his voice.

Oh my god, my parents decided to watch Jumanji with me way back when I was five. I made it up to the part where the kid (who when he grows up will be Robin Williams) GETS SUCKED INTO THE BOARD HOLY FUCKING SHIT, THEN THERE ARE BATS, and became absolutely hysterical. Also I had nightmares for the week after. Kids movie my ass. I never finished the movie until a sleepover with one of my friends years later in high school, and I honestly forget what she had to bribe me with to get me to sit through it but I know I refused to just see it. And I think I still cried myself to sleep.

So yeah. Jumanji is a scary fucking movie for everyone.

Meh, I always liked the cartoon version better. I didn't know it was by Dr. Seuss? 0_o. Oh wait, come to think of it, maybe it's not all that surprising...

Oh, DR Seuss didn't write Jumanji, I just thought the plots were very similar.
