Once Upon a Time
So, I loved this. It's like they explored the idea of thrusting fairy tale characters into our world from 10th Kingdom but went a step forward by making them amnesic. Then, we have Cameron...err, Emma and she and the son she put up for adoption ten years ago are the only ones who can save everyone from the evil queen responsible. Plus, there's the new stuff intercut with the fairy tale world and...I love it so it'll probably be canceled within a year or so.
OH! So, Robert Carlyle was being all awesome in the fairy tale world but it had been a while since he'd been on-screen so Cam...Emma goes to this inn and I'm like *fingers crossed* make Robert Carlyle be there...and he WAS! I think he remembers, too.
Plus, it's not just Grimm's Fairy Tales, it includes Pinocchio and others.
P.S. There was one plot point that very much reminded me of Dr Who...
Grimm
I liked this one, too. However, it isn't as fun. It's a lot more scary. He's a cop dealing with scary stuff like child killers and I'm not sure it will be as accessible to a wide audience as OUAT is. There's a lot more internal; show mythology going on and it took forever to discover that there are nice creatures from myth...woohoo, wolf! He was not like our Wolf, not by a longshot but he was fun and maybe there will be others. There's potential there.

Date: 2011-10-25 07:31 am (UTC)The TV reviewer for Entertainment Weekly felt Grimm was the better grounded show. He reviewed the two together. OUAT got a C. Grimm got a B-. I've watched the pilot for Grimm and loved it. I haven't bothered watching OUAT. I've got a whole list of reasons it doesn't appeal to me without even actually watching an episode. I'm hoping NBC will have some patience with Grimm since they paired it with Chuck which they've been patient with, and they put the two shows on Friday night. I've tried both Fringe and Supernatural without getting into either. I'll be happy to watch Grimm.

Date: 2011-10-31 05:23 am (UTC)I had been hoping for a channel to pick it up and no one ever did and I had the hardest time finding a source, but now I have and I really liked it. It has such hot guys, too, namely "Wolf", "Banshee" and "Cravat". I'll learn their names but it'll take a while.
Once Upon a Time is really a family show so I felt LG was closer in tone to Grimm; more adult and suspenseful. However, I thought LG was set up better since we're introduced to a number of people right off the back and with Grimm, we're just supposed to care about the main guy.

Date: 2011-10-25 10:22 am (UTC)See, this is (one) reason I'm reluctant to watch. I can't possibly understand how it could have the weeniest of chances of sticking around -- because shows like this NEVER stick around -- so I'm reluctant to put the time in. Maybe I'll give it a go on DVD eventually ...

Date: 2011-10-26 11:50 pm (UTC)However, Once delivered 12.8 million viewers and a 3.9 adults 18-49 rating, improving a whopping 86 percent on the usual time period average of Extreme Makeover in the slot. That makes Once Upon a Time the highest-rated new drama series premiere of the season — bigger than ABC’s Revenge, CBS’ Person of Interest or Fox’s Terra Nova. so *fingers crossed*

Date: 2011-10-31 04:22 am (UTC)And I'm glad I'm not the only one calling Emma Cameron, and with House still repeatedly calling Chase things like Prince Charming and "you're what girls hope frogs will look like after they kiss them," I desperately want fanfic or manips of Emma/Cameron and Chase.
