Jack held on as long as he could. Someone would come or the Doctor would come. This would be fixed and until it was, he’d stay right here with Ianto. He wouldn’t let him down. However, the poison had other ideas as it coursed through his body, but he welcomed it. He’d feel exactly what Ianto had felt.
The darkness was grayer than he remembered and felt…different, lighter. It was hard to explain and then, he saw him.
“Ianto!!!” he cried and ran to him. He was standing with his fists on his hips, waiting for him. Jack raised a hand to touch him yet pulled away. What if it was all an illusion? He’d never had anyone to share the darkness with before.
“It’s really me, Jack,” said the younger man and smiled that way that only he could. His lover grabbed him into a hug and held on.
“I should have told you, I don’t know, I don’t know why I never said it…”
“You’re stammering worse than when you tried to ask me out on a proper date,” Ianto interrupted with a wider grin than before.
“I should have done it earlier; I wasted time,” Jack complained; still clutching him tight.
“These fourteen months were worth it and before then…you were a great shag,” he said and his blue eyes twinkled, “would have been three years since we met in October.”
“How can you be so calm?!” the other man declared and let him go. Ianto grabbed his shoulders, saying, “Jack, Jack, we don’t have time for this. I knew this could happen. You remember what I said when you were in that coma?”
Jack remembered. It was one of the first times Ianto had admitted being afraid that Jack would forget him and then afterwards, they’d made love several times before sleeping in each other’s arms. He liked the knowledge that someone was watching him just as he had watched Ianto sleep as well.
“I remember and you won’t be a blip in time. I’ll remember, I promised,” he answered and couldn’t help the tears that fell. The Welshman wiped them away with his thumbs and told him, “I have no regrets, Jack. There’s nothing I wish I could have done differently. I feel at peace, even though that sounds so…what they always say on the telly, but I do…except for you.”
Jack braced himself for whatever would come because it could be anything.
“On the inside cover of my diary are…”
“But it was in the Hub,” Jack cut him off because he remembered it had been in the Hub. He only recalled Ianto with the one journal although it was almost full and he’d mentioned needing another one soon.
“I have another diary and if you look at the inside cover with a mirror; it has all the codes for Torchwood. Some of it might be exploded, I suppose, but if you need back-ups for anything, then Archie has everything,” the young man spoke in a serious tone.
“You were worried about codes?” Jack asked and was almost able to laugh at it. Ianto’s hand grabbed at the coat he’d loved so much. His thumb rubbed the blue fabric.
“I know it’s all Torchwood property now; all my possessions and me…” he trailed off and Jack understood he hadn’t been able to say…Jack couldn’t say it either.
“We broke protocol for Toshiko,” he reminded him and touched his cheek with the dried cut on it.
“Yeah, but that was Tosh…it wouldn’t be right, I liked protocol,” Ianto argued before shrugging, “but I’m dead, do whatever you want.”
Jack felt like he was going to cry again and the younger man shook his head, taking out the stop watch. He clicked it.
“Assuming, your body reacts like a normal poisoning and we have already spent approximately five minutes already, then, we still have about twenty minutes and you want to spend that crying over me?”
“You remember how long it takes me to wake up?” Jack inquired because he never knew that.
A frown came over Ianto and the man replied, “I never got used to it. How can you get used to your lover dying? If I timed you…it felt more clinical, less real.”
He hugged the Welshman so hard as though he could make it all better again, but nothing could ever be better again.
“We do have a bit less than twenty minutes,” Ianto reminded him and Jack knew that tone he was using, but…
“Wouldn’t that be necrophilia?” he asked because he did draw the line at that…
“Is it really necrophilia if both parties are dead?” the other man retorted and his lover couldn’t contest that logic. Jack kissed those lips and…oh, did they feel real. The fingers that ripped at buttons felt real and so did the thigh that rubbed against his crotch. He undressed Ianto; his mouth kissed every inch of his body that he could as if he could memorize it forever. However, his cock eventually won out; threatening to burst whether he was done mapping his lover’s body or not. Jack kissed him on the lips again and requested, “I want you inside me.”
Ianto nodded at their preferred position although he was usually the one to take control in bed before. The older man had liked it that way when he could relax and let someone else take charge for once. In this strange grey darkness, the lack of lube did not matter and he was just able to enjoy the full feel of Ianto within him. Both pairs of hands helped with his front as they moved together. Sooner than he’d like, they lay spent on a tangle of vests, shirts, trousers and the coat.
“Jack, there’s two more things you must do for me,” said Ianto; his leg entwined with his.
“Anything,” said his lover and in that moment, he really meant it. He’d do anything for him.
“Make sure Mica and David aren’t taken. I don’t want anything to happen to them,” the Welshman pleaded and the older man understood because he didn’t want anything to happen to Alice or Steven either.
“I will,” Jack tried to assure him. His hand ran through the short dark hair that was too short to curl as it sometimes did. The next thing to say must have been more difficult because Ianto paused as if to collect his thoughts.
“I don’t want you coming back; not if you’re just going to kill yourself to do it. I know you and I know those stories where’d you kill yourself just to…just to feel something, but I want you to live. If you kill yourself just to come here, you’ll never see me again. I want you to live and remember,” he spoke and the words started to fade in and out.
“I will, I promise,” Jack confirmed, but it was clear that he was starting to wake up and the tears started to fall again. A single tear began to roll down the other’s face and he couldn’t miss this chance, not again.
“I love you, Ianto Jones, forever,” he stated and Ianto tried to smile.
“I know I’ll sound like classic 80s cinema, but I know,” he responded and rubbed his back. His words were distant despite being inches away.
“I don’t want to go,” Jack complained in a hoarse tone. He didn’t want to live in a world without Ianto in it.
“Shh,” his lover hissed and pressed their lips together. Ianto’s arms held him as well.
When Jack woke up, a smile was about to form on his face until he remembered.

Date: 2009-10-09 03:23 am (UTC)Because Jack did seem like he was about to smile and then...he didn't like he remembered and he didn't even Gasp or anything like usual. When he came back from being shot by Clem, he looked so awful as he came back to life in Ianto's arms.
I'm glad you think it feels better, too. I admit the story motivation was a but selfish...not only did I want to fix Jack, but I wanted to find a way to feel better about the whole thing myself.

Why did RTD have to have a killing spree on paper? Grrrr....

Ughh, every time someone has a rumor about someone joining the cast for season 4, I'm wary...because they'll just be killed off for dramatic effect at some point.
Thank You

Date: 2011-03-10 10:18 pm (UTC)This was so wonderful! I hate it that Jack never really got to say goodbye to Ianto. Jack is so complicated. So much pain, he has lived so long. I am sure loving people, only to lose them must make it hard for him to say "I love you" to anyone. I know he loved Ianto though. In the end it was so obvious. Also I am pissed that they never gave them time to really explore their relationship. They just killed off Ianto when I think more about him and Jack would have likely happen if he had lived.
Anyway, thanks for the closure. I would like to think that it really happened that way when Jack died too. :)
