So, I guess I never got around to that Sherlock Holmes post. I enjoyed the sequel a lot more than the first; partly because of having read all the books this time, partly because of my dream casting of Stephen Fry for Mycroft and partly because of the awesome females involved.
It's the single biggest disappointment about Doyle's writings that females are always used as plot devices rather than actual characters and that makes adaptations tricky but they made it work here. Irene had her moment, Simza was awesome and Mary...Mary proved herself to be every bit as smart as the guys.
Honestly, between that and lines about Holmes wanting Watson to join him in bed...it was a bit like fanfiction in movie form...not that I'm opposed to that, I find it quite enjoyable. I also had Captain Jack Harkness in my head, "This is quite homoerotic."
Also, just now, I heard a voice and got excited, "Shipper Dragon! Shipper Dragon!"
Then, I remembered that I was watching V for Vendetta and it was just John Hurt.
