Indya
With no more use for him, the body was cast over the side of the ship. Ripples from the action reverberated across the seven seas; similar to what the coin had done all those years ago when it set everything into motion.
The ripples carried the barest tinge of blood; faint but recognizable. Indya was startled. She always knew this day would come but was still caught off guard. Her kind gave her a look for abandoning them. However, Indya had always been strange. She swam in the direction of the ripples and her past. Even if she was too late, she wanted to see him one last time.
Nearly two decades had passed and she had no delusions about him remembering her. He was human and she was a myth. Their time would either be forgotten or assumed to be the figment of an addled mind on the brink of death. She had never forgotten.
Indya pressed on. She didn't fear his death from drowning. It wasn't possible but the blood pointed to a far more serious wound.
There he was, falling into the depths. Crimson colored the water around him. She saw the sharks eyeing him and snarled. The sharks backed away. No creature would dream of harming her except humans. She took this one into her arms and pulled him down into a cave where she laid him on a rock. There was air so her top portion was out of the water.
As she studied the wound, tears began to fall. It was a rare occurrence but she was rare among her species.
"Please don't die," she begged as she took his hand. Tears fell onto his torso. The blood flow stopped and she thought there must have been nothing left to give. Then, there was the briefest of sounds from his mouth. She watched his green eyes flutter open and dropped his hand in surprise. His eyes blinked again as though adjusting to the new environment before focusing on her.
"Indya?" he asked in surprise.
"James, it's really me," she answered.
