Oh how I loved The Avengers so freaking much.
SPOILERS!
So I love Whedon and it was very Whedon and now I'm just going to spew everything that comes to mind.
Alexis Denisof! I barely recognized him.
I loved Loki's entrance. It was awesome and somehow, I got a better sense of his Asgardian warrior training than in Thor.
Now, he possesses Clint, Erik and a third SHIELD agent. I think that third agent was the one playing Galaga but I'm not sure and then he wasn't mentioned again?
My mom: I know it's not right. It wasn't his fault but seeing him possessed by Loki took away some of the luster.
Yes, she still likes Jeremy Renner but it kind of ruined Hawkeye for her...
:(
She also hates Erik and doesn't want him to show up anymore.
I didn't have a problem with Hawkeye's possession until Erik did that subterfuge. Then, it's like, HEY, how can Erik do that but Clint was freaking trained by SHIELD, by Coulson...CAN'T?
Were he and Loki too much of kindred spirits? What?
It's also annoying because as much as I liked Erik in Thor and Stellan has occasionally played other non-bad guys...I still hold a grudge against his characters because of Bootstrap. Then, I know I'm being hypocritical and inconsistent because I should feel the same way towards Loki and I don't.
Pepper and her Daisy Dukes, oh my gosh, it was...so totally different but then, I kind of liked it. We've never seen Pepper "off duty" before and they were so CUTE together!
I should not enjoy Loki being so gleefully evil but I do, I really do. The eye thing was also neat. I've never seen it done that way before. Usually, they just extract the eye or use contacts or whatever.
"I'm not overly fond of what follows."
All the fight scenes in this film were just awesome. You don't get a real sense of what Thor and Loki are capable of until you're able to compare it in a real world situation. Thor vs Hulk! Also, Thor being able to CRUSH Iron Man's armor, wow.
"I'm listening..."
I loved how Tom Hiddleston got to be more comedic. Please do a comedy and also host Saturday Night Live. Seriously, they are stupid not to have this man especially after "Loki'd".
I loved all the dialogue and the Legolas comment although I missed it during the actual movie. My mom says she caught it. Obviously, I will just have to see it again...
My mom's other problem with the movie was that Bruce was wearing a blue shirt with khakis like a Walmart employee.
Me: You could have worn your work clothes and said you were cosplaying him!
Mom: (not amused)
I loved the Eric Bana Hulk especially since it was directed by Ang Lee. I never thought Edward Norton had that Bruce Banner quality. It's hard to describe but when I heard Mark Ruffalo had been cast, it was, YES! He did have that quality. In order to be Bruce, you have to be snarky, intelligent and like the guy next door but with this under layer of mystery, seriousness, anger and self-loathing all while being approachable. It's hard to pull off.
Now, if you're new to Mark Ruffalo, you need to watch:
13 Going on 30
The Brothers Bloom
Zodiac
My mom recommends Collateral but I told her that I think my FList only watches Tom Cruise films when Jeremy Renner is involved.
Oh gosh, Natasha and Clint, so much awesome there...
Natasha's backstory is confirmed to line up with the comics. I loved her lines about the red and outwitting/defeating Loki...not once, but TWICE! Tom Hiddleston said in an interview that he felt Loki and Natasha had a lot of chemistry together. I totally agree. I ship that, but then I ship almost everything and everyone in this film except Loki/Thor and most Steve/Tony.
However, unless she was leaving things out, totally plausible, I wonder if Natasha still manipulated Clint back when he was still starting out or what his movie backstory is. All we know him as is a Shield Agent so then, it's like, did he just start off as a Ranger like Coulson and I really hope not because that would be really disappointing. Clint's backstory is all kinds of messed up tragic but it's awesome and I'd love a Hawkeye movie with Barney, preferably played by Nathan Fillion.
Don't even try to tell me that they don't resemble each other...
I also need to watch and pay more attention to what they call her. I thought for sure it was limited to Natasha, Tasha, Black Widow, cunt, etc but some people are saying Nat was used. In the prequel graphic novel, Natasha makes a point of saying she HATES people calling her Nat.
Was anyone else distracted by the Dr. Pepper truck and Farmer's Insurance office?
I loved how Loki was glassy-eyed and really looked like he was going to join Thor, but is stupid pride and hurt got in the way so he stabs him but with a tiny little thing.
I loved the eating scene, very Whedon. My mom was kind of disappointed. Then, she asked, Where was Loki?
I hadn't thought about it but it's a good point. After the epic Loki-smashing by Hulk...absolutely hilarious and I could watch that all day...did they just leave him there? Is he tied up somewhere while they eat?
I hadn't noticed how Clint is resting his feet on Natasha's seat until someone pointed it out. On one hand, it's kind of possessive and annoying although it might feel different when you know you can drop him in about three seconds.
On the other hand, it's also kind of adorable and sad. The two of them feel alone in the group and he's definitely feeling Phil's death and the Loki-mindrape and he just needs reassurance of a friend being there for him...even if she does claim it's just a life debt thing.
So, what happened to the cosmic spear? It wasn't with Loki or the Tesseract when they went back.
What are Bruce and Tony up to?
I also giggled every time someone said, "Suit up!" and was reminded of my mom asking, "If it's Whedon, why isn't Neil Patrick Harris in it?"

Date: 2012-05-07 06:19 am (UTC)I was kinda freaked out that Clint got compromised, but it certainly added to the drama. I yearned for more of him, but what there was of him was awesome. I hope the Hawkeye movie will be soon. Nathan Fillion would make a good Barney, and I think Daniel Craig would too. (I think he and Jeremy could be brothers.)
Ruffalo IS the Hulk. The dude killed it! I loved the Eric Bana one too, and thought Norton was pretty good, but the third time was definitely the charm for Hulk on the big screen. Loved his fight with Thor, and when he kicked Loki's ass! *giggles*
Aww, Tony and Pepper were adorbs. They got me back on that ship. I'm also further up the ramp of the Tony/Bruce ship, but Tony with Steve is still my Avengers OTP. I adore Phil with Clint, but I'm also jonesing hard for some Phil/Steve. I've also been meaning to read some Clint/Phil/Natasha. They were so joined at the hip, one can't help but imagine some polyandry action.
Great performance from Hiddleston as Loki; the man is all kinds of awesome.
Oh loved, loved, loved the shawarma scene! Talk about team bonding! *gigglesnort* I noticed on the second viewing that Steve was just sitting there and not even eating and it just made me want to cuddle him. Then again, I'm always wanting to cuddle Steve. ;)

Actually, Chris Evans had a bad prosthetic to hide his full beard because it was shot about a month ago so he kept his hand there to hide it and couldn't really move at all.

I was hearing about the Black Widow movie, and if it's going to be the origin story, there's sure to be Clint and Coulson. *yay* I heard rumors that Clark Gregg might be in Iron Man 3, which either means that the movie takes place before The Avengers, or Coulson is alive. (I'd love it to be the latter.)

Still, that doesn't rule out other movies...but if he were to be revealed as alive or somehow still around, I think that would have to wait for Avengers 2, or a secret credit scene they wouldn't admit to anyway.

Date: 2012-05-14 07:10 am (UTC)And here's my new Coulson theory: The Coulson that Loki killed actually a Skrull and they are holding the real Phil somewhere (a la Secret Invasion). I know we're supposed to think that the first alien visitation/invasion was in The Avengers, but there still could've been Skrulls on Earth all this time, right? *obviously still in denial*

Date: 2012-05-07 01:50 pm (UTC)Mark Ruffalo was an awesome Hulk. I really liked the Banna Hulk, but they disappointed a lot of fans with the lack of humor or HULKSMASH, and the Norton one just didn't do it for me. This one totally worked, and I loved that they gave as much or more attention to Bruce than the Hulk. Bruce and Tony were *hilarious* together, BTW.
Really enjoyed the movie and can't wait for the DVD. I'm sure I missed stuff in the theater, and SPECIAL FEATURES!

I wonder if it's possible to be actually drunk in a weakened state like that?
