Lightning and Lightening

I posted this on Tumblr but it probably needs to be said here because I see the mistake too many times.

Fro Dictionary.com:

Lightning
a brilliant electric spark discharge in the atmosphere, occurring within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground.

Lightening
noun Medicine/Medical .
the descent of the uterus into the pelvic cavity, occurring toward the end of pregnancy, changing the contour of the abdomen and facilitating breathing by lessening pressure under the diaphragm.

As you can see, they are NOT the same thing. Please keep this in mind.

Or I think also what happens to, say, the sky at dawn. But yes. That's on the short list of my more hated no-Word-won't-catch-it mistakes.

How about something I see way too much in fic - "defiant" is not the same as "definite".

I can honestly say I've never seen "lightening" used to describe a uterus. I've always used it in reference to a color or a mood. "I'm lightening up the mood in here by farting." Or whatever.

Farting does work, btw.
