Having seen Taking Woodstock and Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, I can't help but wonder...

Is the real Woodstock, New York really like that?

Is it like an Eastern mecca for liberalism where arts are freely worshiped?

I'm curious.

Peace, Love & Misunderstanding was cute. I'll watch just about anything if Catherine Keener is in it and it also had Jeffrey Dean Morgan's ass. I also finally get the fuss over Elizabeth Olsen. She is a great actress and has a lot of potential. I would fully support her in a Marvel movie someday.

Taking Woodstock was actually shot partially in New Lebanon, NY which is on the NY/MA border, so the mountain range is the Berkshires, rather than the Catskills. The locations were right around the corner from my parents' other house, and I took photos of the signs they hung up all along Route 20 for the film, as well as the re-dressed Valley Rest Motel which they turned into the lead character's parents' house. (I still haven't had a chance to see the film.)

Woodstock is definitely a hippie artsy haven and has been for decades. The Band used to live in that neck of the woods, and Bob Dylan had a house there too. There are a lot of little towns like that in Upstate New York, usually inhabited by former New Yorkers (as in NYC) who wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle. Parts of Vermont are like that too.

... there's a movie with Catherine Keener and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's ass? I think I need to see it. (I watched all of Capote thinking, "Why isn't this movie about Harper Lee [her character] instead?")

So, have you seen it yet?

Catherine Keener makes almost every movie better.

I say "almost" because of Percy Jackson. I'll watch the sequel, of course, but that was the least faithful adaptation of a book ever.

Oh yes, I attended a lecture once at college on Harper Lee, so interesting.
