Love Actually
Dec. 5th, 2012 01:49 amSo, I was reading Entertainment Weekly and this article on how Love Actually went from a box office disappointment to a beloved modern Christmas classic. I agree with all of it until...
It is also worth mentioning that several of the cast members who weren't famous in the U.S. when the movie was made- notably Lincoln (a.k.a the hero of The Walking Dead) and January Jones, who plays one of the very welcoming Americans Kris Marshall's character meets on his vacation- have since become stars.
Umm...
I'm totally happy about Lincoln's success. After all, his role in Love Actually made me that much more desperate to see This Life which still hasn't completely happened but I still have a few on VHS from BBCA in 2006 or so.
There was Chiwetel Ejiofor who was adorable and when the next thing I saw him in had him trying to murder Nathan Fillion, it was very...oh SHIT, this guy's GOOD! I do have to admit that he has not become a star...sadly.
There is Thomas Brodie-Sangster who stole all of his scenes and is on one of Disney Channel's most popular shows but nope...not a star either.
This brings us to another actor that I first discovered in Love Actually. He was also adorable and awkward which I would later realize are his trademarks. He was also naked most of the time. Still, I decided that I loved him and hoped he would be in more stuff. Then, it turned out he was in this British sitcom with Mackenzie Crook from Pirates of the Caribbean!
Of course, I'm talking about Martin Freeman. When you talk about people from Love Actually who have gone onto stars, I just don't understanding IGNORING Martin Freeman! He went from a bit part as a porn stand-in to John Watson to freaking Bilbo Baggins!

Date: 2012-12-05 07:20 am (UTC)Martin is the only reason I let curiosity get the better of me when I saw his name on netflix in this show 'Sherlock', he's the reason I even watched Love Actually and the primary reason I will be spending a lot of time in December in the local theater, so I'm with you being annoyed when they ignore him.
I was in 7th heaven tonight with him on both Colbert and Letterman. :)

Date: 2012-12-06 01:19 am (UTC)It's always neat to look back upon people to see where they got their start. They take the oddest roles.
