But Time Marches On: Epilogue
Dec. 15th, 2012 02:24 pmMost of us aren't into Torchwood anymore. I still like Torchwood. I still like writing Torchwood but the time isn't there anymore. In April, I started what was supposed to be a simple Avengers story of ten chapters...I'm only on chapter four...
It's not fair to But Time Marches On or anyone still reading it to leave it hanging so this will be its epilogue. I will post everything I have planned out for it and if you have any questions about what was going to happen, just ask.
What Else Happened in Ealing
Jo Grant shows up that night and the next day is the funeral. Everyone shows up, including Rhi and River who shows up in the Doctor's place.
"He doesn't do funerals."
Afterwards, Mica wants to stay with Luke and the gang who are having a sort of party that night. Jack doesn't think it's a good idea. Rhi is okay if Jack is staying, too. Mica and Jack stay as does River who doesn't know about Jack's drinking problem. They share a bottle of wine and are interrupted, possibly mid-coitus-I hadn't decided, by Mica banging on the door for Jack.
Jack and Mica go to the backyard where she explains that she kind of...accidentally...kissed Luke and he kissed her back a little and Maria walked in and she was horrified. I hadn't decided whether to go back and add in Sky or not. Mica had also been drinking. Jack admits that he didn't want her staying because they were so much older and when you're around older kids, they can make you do things you shouldn't. He's drunk and I've decided that when Jack is drunk, he tends to be truthful and revealing.
When Jack returns, David gives Jack a copy of Lord of the Rings. They all have a talk with Lucia which ends in the unmistakable revelation to everyone that Lucia can hear thoughts like Iefan. She hates it because it makes her weird and her parents can't do it. It's also another reason why she doesn't like Jack and Iefan so much, she felt like it was wrong that they could do it, too. They work on trying to make her feel okay with her ability.
Unfortunately, in the middle of May, Alice goes into labor early. Jack is there for the birth of Cara Rhiannon but it's twins. Jack had called Thomas who arrives in time for the birth of Thomas Raul. Baby Thomas appears to be dead at birth, much smaller than his sister. Then, after a few minutes, everyone hears a sharp intake of breath and a cry from the newborn. Thomas has inherited that from Jack as well. Jack's not in the room. Alice reveals the truth to him later that summer.
Ianto visits him in a dream and they have a tear-filled reunion where Ianto implores him to live, including seeing other people. Shortly after that, Jack and Alice both confront their demons by getting her old house set up for the new babies when they're able to come home but not well enough to fly to France.
A month or two later, the Doctor shows up to give Mica a trip as he promised. She can have any trip anywhere. She asks to see Ianto on that last day. The Doctor is worried that she might try to change things but...
Before she could, a young guy approached Ianto first.
With a start, she realized who the guy was.
"Holy shit!" Mica blurted before she could help herself. She felt a hand placed on her mouth and she was dragged back into the Tardis.
It was Iefan from the future with Jack's Vortex Manipulator. Mica and the Doctor go on one other trip where she's able to help out with her Sonic Lipstick from Sarah Jane.
During her many hospital visits and whenever she has a moment to herself, Alice starts reading the copy of LOTR that David gave Jack, tells Jack that he should, too.
A month and a half later, Gwen reinstates Jack per Selene's agreement and asks him to take more of a leadership role because she's pregnant. Jack finds the highlighted passage in Lord of the Rings that David wanted him to find:
You cannot always be torn in two. You will have to be one and whole, for many years. You have so much to enjoy and to be, and to do.
Almost everyone comes to Iefan's birthday party where Iefan switches clothes with Mariah so that he ends up in a pink dress. Rhi's hair is growing back and her cancer is in remission. Alice and Thomas are back together.
This story would have ended with Ianto in heaven and coming across Sarah Jane. She talks about Luke and how she can see him.
"Do you want to hear a spoiler?" she asked and said that last word as if mimicking someone else, but Ianto didn't know who it could be. "When Jack dies, the Doctor's with him."
Ianto isn't surprised.
"When Jack looks at a person, it can feel...quite special."
"Oh, you have no idea," said Ianto, wondering if he was capable of blushing.
They discuss how Jack has changed, how Luke and Iefan are doing.
"I think our sons will do quite well," said Sarah Jane with a smile.
"Yep," Ianto agreed.
Jack marries Selene.
Jack kept thinking about the way Selene looked when holding that baby (Rachel and Declan's latest). Something was on her mind and if it had been him, she would have plied it out of him already.
"Selene, your mind is a million miles away," Jack said softly. She set down the book and shook her head.
"It's silly. It's just hormones and genetics affecting me."
Jack gave her a look. It didn't seem like something silly was bothering her.
"Well, I have no logical reason for feeling this way. You're a great husband. I love you and I love Iefan. I love him like he was mine so why...why do I feel like I want a baby so badly? It must just be genetic imperative."
Jack couldn't recall the last time he'd seen her so upset and he wanted to make her better as she had done with him so often.
"Because you want a little girl."
"But there's no guarantee that...that we'd even have a girl."
Jack knew the future was up to him. He could either close the matter or agree to change their lives in a major way.
"We could try. It could be good for Iefan to have a sibling closer in age."
"Hi Sophie, I'm your dad," Jack whispered and kissed the infant's forehead.
"Tad," came Selene's voice from the bed. He looked over and she continued, "Taddy, just like Iefan."
EuroDisney and Beyond
The second story would have been about the time that Iefan, Sophie and everyone went to EuroDisney. Sadly, Selene and Rhi were dead but David and Emyr bring their foster children. Iefan has to be told not to kiss either the princesses or their princes. Mica becomes a journalist, just like Sarah Jane. She also has a baby for David and Emyr.
"Taddy!" Jack heard Iefan scream before he descended into grayness. When he came to, Gwen had been crying.
"Iefan and Sophie saw you. We tried to stop them but they saw you die."
"Where are they?" Jack asked.
"We put them in Selene's office, might want to have shower first."
"No, too much time," Jack said and ran as fast as he could to Selene's office.
"No, no, no," Iefan repeated and shook his head.
"Iefan say you dead," Sophie said. Confusion was visible on her face. He picked her up and held her close.
"Dead like mummy," Iefan said and Jack held him close as well.
"I'm right here, I always will be," he said and kissed them both although Iefan squirmed out of it.
"You can't say that. Everyone dies. Daddy died and mummy and modi and then you did, everyone," Iefan complained and his stubborn expression reminded him so much of Ianto.
"Your taddy has a secret. Yes, I died, but I always come back. I'll never leave you. I promise that I will never leave you."
"Pwomise?" Sophie asked and held out her pinky. Iefan looked at her and held his out as well. Jack linked his pinkies with theirs and said, "I promise I will never ever leave you."
He hugged them both and this time, Iefan let him.
"I love you both more than anything."
Jaden
In the third story, we discover that Iefan is taking after his parents even now. He's a bit of a troublemaker. He has a tattoo and pierced ears and a bit annoyed that Jack takes it all in stride. They also have fights over Iefan wanting to be so involved with Torchwood. When Iefan turns 18, Jack has to miss it because of work but won't let Iefan help. Iefan gets annoyed and steals his Vortex Manipulator. His plan was to go back in time to see Ianto, but he ends up meeting Owen Harper instead. They have sex with what turns out to be a defective condom, or at least that's what Iefan finds out several weeks later when he's pregnant. Iefan tries to hide it at first because he's afraid of what Jack will think...Jack had wanted him to finish university. However, after the initial shock, Jack is very supportive, including having him move back in so he can help with the pregnancy and baby.
Jack went to call Iefan into dinner except he seemed to be sleeping. Jack took a blanket from another chair and draped it over him. He'd probably wake up before he got chilled in the night, but better safe than sorry. His son's eyelids fluttered and came open. Despite the last few days, Iefan smiled as he rubbed his large belly. He took off the blanket and pulled up his shirt, feeling one spot.
"Do you want to feel him?" he asked.
"Him? You know it's going to be a boy?"
"Yep, Martha told me. You're going to have another grandson."
He put a hand on the baby bump where Iefan showed him and felt a kick.
"So, that's my grandson," Jack whispered and couldn't help grinning.
Iefan never tells who the father is, except to Martha Jones. Unlike Jack wanting to keep Iefan apart from Torchwood, Iefan brings Jaden to work at Torchwood. Jaden is there for everything, including his father and grandfather recapturing Myfanwy.
When Jaden is six, almost seven, Iefan dies saving the world. Iefan knew it was a possibility. He used Jack's Vortex Manipulator to go back in time and see his dad on his last day...the very visit that Mica saw. He also puts together a series of letters a la PS I Love You for Jack. As such, Jaden is soured on Torchwood and aliens. He has no interest in following in Iefan and Ianto's footsteps. He becomes a fantasy/science fiction writer and meets a quiet, young woman named Emily. Emily is as unsure about Jaden meeting her mother as Jaden is nervous about her meeting Jack. It turns out that Emily's mother is none other than Adelaide Brooke.
Jack held his great-granddaughter in his arms, rocking her to sleep. He had been to enough funerals in his lifetime, he could miss this one.
"I'm sorry, Susie, it looks like I'm your sole representative for your grandparents. Most of them died young," he uttered, pausing to collect his thoughts, "You know, I think you might have Ianto's chin and his smile, of course. The Jones smile goes on forever. I'm going to tell you all about him and your grandfather Iefan and Owen and Adelaide. She was a good woman, really. She wasn't my fault either."
"No, she was mine," said the Doctor, walking into the room. Jack thought it sounded like the Tardis earlier but he didn't want to interrupt Susie when she was so tired.
"I should have known. They never fully explained how the crew returned so quickly."
Tells Jack what happened
"Why can't she be like her parents and stay near home?"
"Because you saw her future. She has too much of her grandparents in her to stay here. She's going to want to run and explore, like you, like Adelaide, like Iefan, like Ianto."
Jaden never had any inclination to join Torchwood. Instead, he wrote things.
"Silly little stories," he said with a shake of the head as if comparing his works with those of Rowling or Tolkien was utterly insane.
Jaden would hold dinner parties at his house every so often. At some point towards the end of the evening, one of the new acquaintances would ask the same question. How did Jaden come up with such fantasy? How did it seem so impossible yet real at the same time?
"I don't know," he would say with a shrug with one arm wrapped around his wife. He would propose a toast to creativity and drink half the glass. As the other party guests were wrapped up in themselves once more, Jaden would turn towards the stairs leading to his childrens' room. They were asleep or else he wouldn't be seeing the man in front of him coming down the stairs. His hair had more grey and the face contained more lines, but the faded RAF coat gave away his identity.
"To you, Granddad," he whispered with a smile, held up his glass and swallowed the rest. Jack just beamed in the shadows.
It's not fair to But Time Marches On or anyone still reading it to leave it hanging so this will be its epilogue. I will post everything I have planned out for it and if you have any questions about what was going to happen, just ask.

Date: 2012-12-20 04:45 pm (UTC)I'm glad that my comment was a good one for you cause I really did enjoy this universe. I also love that you took the time to wrap up the universe with how you had planned to play things out. I think this is my biggest frustration with WIPs that never get finished. I just want to know how it would have gone/ended, lol! You've provided that and I feel satisfied now that I know how everything would have progressed. Wonderful.
