Wreck-It Ralph
Jan. 3rd, 2013 09:45 pmSo, we saw Wreck-It Ralph. On one hand, I was kind of scared that it would be bad but then, I was also excited because it's video games and not just the new stuff but ALL OF IT. I was first raised on an Atari 2600...THAT is old school to me.
To make me feel even more for Ralph, he was also born in 1982. I love Felix since he's cute and Jack McBrayer but Ralph is our protagonist and played by John C. Reilly, who depending on the role, I either have warm feelings for or find very hot especially in Cirque du Freak with the long coat...
Long coat... (drools like Homer when thinking of donuts)
Ralph is very sad. He lives in a dump. The other people in the game hate him. The other video game characters think he should just accept his fate and move on which is both smart and the stupidest advice EVER. I thought everyone would be a licensed character from somewhere so I'm wracking my brain at every moment, wondering where people are from...and I read an article and they're not...
Some of the characters are completely original, like in the support group, which disappointed me because you have so many games to choose from that it doesn't seem necessary. They could have had Harry from Keystone Kapers or something.
Anyway, I was kind of frustrated because I just wanted them to listen to Ralph and his issues and I knew that his quest wouldn't end well. I did love the actual perspective where the screen was really a glass they could see out of. They could see their surroundings and the player playing them.
I wanted to Sugar Rush to be a real game. It was so damn pretty. I wanted to eat everything, like if Willy Wonka had created his very own world for all of his candy creations.
So, Vanellope...
I was looking forward to her. She's played by Sarah Silverman. I liked the spunky attitude and such. She even had problems where she would be out of it for a bit. Vannelope was disabled! This seemed to be awesome. Her disability seemed very similar to Epilepsy to the point where they weren't sure she should even drive or be able to do what she wanted. To me, this sort of challenged the viewer. She really wants to be able to be normal and do normal things but what if the normal things are a danger to her? Do we allow her to continue as long as she knows the risks? I know that I'm still nervous about driving and I worry over stupid things, like forgetting or biting my tongue because what if I had a seizure and didn't know it?
However, it's revealed that her disability is actually the villain's doing. He did this to her. I was so disappointed at this easy fix. Then, she's fixed but with the ability to have her episodes at will and control them. She basically gains the same power as Loki or Nightcrawler, being able to disappear and teleport somewhere else. Again, I was disappointed.
Most people don't have that option...to make their disability into a super power. I suppose it's the mind-set that we should have, but...
My mom hated her for a different reason. She said that she just came off like a spoiled brat and she found her annoying.
I liked Ralph's ending better. He accepted his position in life but they included him in their lives and they were able to help others along the way. Q*BERT! Also, the cybugs were stupid and the plot felt longer than it needed to be although I did ship Felix/Calhoun.
