Top and Bottom Films of 2012
Jan. 6th, 2013 09:01 pmRules:
Movies must have been seen on the big screen between 12:01 AM January 1, 2012 and 11:59 PM December 31, 2012. Movies cannot have been listed on a previous list. Thus, Finding Nemo and Beauty and the Beast were ineligible. I also rank films that I want to watch again and again over films that were done very well but I don't wish to see ever again.
I'm sure you could have guessed my favorite film.

...is an almost perfect comedy. It's absolutely hilarious while having these epic, important themes about growing up, growing older and love. It has some pretty dark places that comedies usually avoid. I'd actually liken it more to Bridesmaids in that way.
Moonrise Kingdom
...is Wes Anderson who I will love 98% of the time. The cast is perfect. It's a period piece in a made up universe which I also love and it's written very well so between everything you deeply care about all the characters.
Argo
...got high marks first of all because even though I knew how would end, I was still on the edge of my seat from the tension. Again, I also love period pieces.
Warhorse
As a literary/stage adaptation, I thought it was done really well, It didn't feel like we were stuck in certain locations just to have soliloquies because that';s how it's supposed to be. Again, the cast was excellent and it didn't feel too overlong.
Lincoln
I like The West Wing, this was basically The West Wing set in 1864.
21 Jump Street
It was hilarious. I like watching comedies but there aren't too many that I find totally hilarious. They usually ruin it for me with too much stupid stuff or stuff that just makes me feel really bad for the characters involved instead of laughing at their predicament...the Meet the Parents series is a great example of this kind of movie. I can't watch them. I just empathize too much.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
This was a more low-key comedy; more cute than funny. It had its predictable parts but everyone was cute and I wanted them to succeed. I also really loved seeing Keira Knightley in a lighter film.
A Dangerous Method
Well, yes, I do like Keira Knightley and then you have Viggo Mortensen and Michael Fassbender. Again, it's a period piece and pretty cinematography.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
This one was just a lot of fun. It also had so many of my favorites in the cast being awesome like Dominic Cooper. I wanted a little more action from Mary Elizabeth Winstead but ah welll...
Red Dawn
It was okay. It felt like they had taken the pilot episode with the season finale. Everything was very rushed and unexplained.
The Amazing Spider-Man
I hated it. My mom hated it. Andrew Garfield was perfect. That's the best thing I can say about it. I didn't like the lizard. I wanted different casting for Ban and May Parker. I was very disappointed with the script which under-developed everyone in sight. There was an Indian actor who I was very excited about his being cast and he was wasted in a basic minion capacity. His jokes felt subpar especially when compared to Stark or Banner in The Avengers just a few months before.
Looper
I hate movies that you watch and then, at the end, something happens to undo everything you just saw and it feels like you just wasted two hours of your life for no reason. Also, I hated everyone in that film even though I normally like many of the actors.
