I generally like Judd Apatow productions. I mean like always, I mean it's usually a guarantee that I will like it. So, when I heard his latest series was on HBO, I was kind of disappointed because HBO...I'm not about to subscribe for one series. Then, Girls kept getting all this acclaim and I watched and... I found it...meh. Oddly enough, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of all people seems to sum up my problems with it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kareem-abduljabbar/girls-review_b_2593756.html Being a 30 year old and not so far removed from the characters ages and situations, I would also like to add that it seems to perpetuate the idea that my generation and those below me were coddled by our parents into idiocy...we are unable to do real work and thus, have to be financially supported by our parents. True, many of us have moved back in with our parents. True, many of us are receiving financial support in other ways. However, many, MANY others are doing it all on their own whether that means ramen noodles and stealing wifi from a neighbor or whatever they can. To me, for people to think Girls is true or a believable representation of 20s women is to think Sex and the City accurately portrayed being in your 30s at that point in time. No, I don't understand the fuss over it except for the nepotism involved and Apatow's name.

I, too, don't understand the seemingly popularity of this program. I watched it a couple times and didn't go for it. I though it was because I am in an "older" generation.

I'm really "meh" about it, too. *Nods* My mom likes it a lot, so if it happens to be on when my parents and I are eating dinner, I'll watch it. I've never gone out of my way to tune into it on my own, though— it just doesn't grab me at all, not even the characters. I do like Enlightened, which comes after it, though.
