So far the talk is of a pick up for a Fall premiere. Course whether or not it makes it in the Fall schedule, or later on the schedule will depend on how the full series production goes. They only just got the pick up. ;)
Heh. Only because Marvel and ABC are both owned by Disney. A comic book based series like Agents of SHIELD would more typically be found on FOX or the CW than on ABC. It'll be interesting to see how they fit it into their line up.
But they basically timed the pick-up to coincide with the momentum from Iron Man 3 so if it's not September, October at the latest, I'll be extremely surprised...September is most likely when the home release for Iron Man 3 is and Thor 2 is late October/early November depending on the market. Plus, they definitely want to build up SHIELD before the SHIELD heavy Captain America: Winter Soldier in April.

They waited until after they knew exactly how big the opening for Iron Man 3 was so they're being very cautious with it. I wouldn't expect it in September, just from the beginning of the Fall season being mostly pushed back to October or November, and knowing that Thor 2 will be late October/early November makes it seem even less likely they'll roll it out in September. Why roll it out with the DVD or movie when they can roll it out between them to keep the momentum up between the two?

An April release date not only means they don't have to roll it out in the fall, it means they could hold it until mid-season so that it is what carries the momentum between Thor 2 and Winter Soldier. I mean if the DVD is September, and Thor is October things aren't in danger of flat-lining until after the momentum from Thor 2 has run out. The big empty space is between Thor 2 and Winter Soldier. Even if Thor 2 is November rather than October, that's still four months between movies. They'll definitely think about positioning.
