Great song (I've got it on my iPod), and the incident it's about was such a tragedy :(. *Shakes head*
It's really a very appropriate song ATM, given the verdict in the Zimmerman trial (I'm guessing that's why you posted the video). My dad told me what the verdict was last night, as I was never particularly interested in watching the trial minute by minute. I can't believe Zimmerman got off, the murdering bigot B[! The least the jury could have done was find him guilty of the manslaughter charge! It's just not right that he's going to walk free, despite the fact that he killed a seventeen year old who was pretty much minding his own business. I hope there will be a huge outcry over this (and I don't mean in just the African-American community), I really do B/!
Did I not post the right video? I was trying to post the one where he mentions Trayvon by name.
I do understand how he got acquitted and it's not totally surprising. I do wish we would have that discussion on race that Obama suggested years ago BUT...
What disappoints me most about this case is that now every person with a gun is going to feel like they can do anything they want as long as they can afford a good lawyer. This is horrifying.
However, we should keep in mind OJ...he may have gotten acquitted of one crime but his life still went all downhill and he currently resides in jail.
I'm not sure, I didn't watch the video :}. If it was the right one, though, it is very cool that he mentioned Trayvon by name. *Nods* Like I said, that was a very appropriate song for him to perform.
Really? I don't. I honestly think he should have at least been found guilty of manslaughter, even if it couldn't be conclusively proven that he followed Trayvon with the intent to kill him.

Yes, that's definitely an important one to have, as painful, and in some cases, shaming, as it would be. Unfortunately, I don't think it's ever going to happen, at least not on a nationwide scale. Why? For one thing, it's not something the majority of the population wants to talk about. The other is, of course, that many of us (individuals like you, me, and others excepted), probably think that because evidence of racism isn't as obvious now (though if people are paying any attention to the blatantly racist voting laws being trotted out & enacted by, no surprise, the very same states that were barred from doing so when Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act still had teeth, people may realize that racism is absolutely not gone) and we elected an African-American as president twice, we live in a "color-blind", post-racial world, so we no longer need to worry about things like racism. It's out of sight, out of mind, in other words.
Exactly. *Nods* Though truthfully, I began to worry about that (every person who has a gun now thinks they can do whatever the heck they want with it) as soon as the first "Stand Your Ground" law was put on the books. It's a great idea in principle, I begrudgingly admit, but most of the ones that have been enacted are, as far as I know, so vague that they border on the legalization of vigilante justice. That's bad enough, but it's made ten times worse by the fact that the U.S. has some of, if not the, weakest gun laws in the world, which is a very dangerous combination.
True. *Nods* If the case is somehow brought in front of a federal court, and/or a civil trial is initiated by the Martin family, that's what could, in the end, send Zimmerman to jail for whatever duration is appropriate. Let's hope it's exactly what happens :[.
