When I showed my mom how Entertainment Weekly had put Tom Hiddleston on their calendar of televisions events for fall 2013, she didn't recognize him! Then, she said that must be the mark of a true actor. When he's playing Loki or being himself, his eyes have a smile to them but here, they're just cold.
They also had a full-page script for Agents of SHIELD!
I love reading Whedon scripts anyway but the most exciting part was Simmons saying, So, are you excited to be coming on our "Journey into Mystery"?
Journey into Mystery!
Journey into Mystery was one of the most awesome comic book series I have ever read. There are two main reasons for this:
1. Kid!Loki
During a previous scheme gone wrong, Loki had sacrificed himself. He was reincarnated into a new body and Thor set out to find him. He found him in Paris as an adolescent with no knowledge of who he really was but an innate ability at tricks, manipulation and mischief along with the traditional green eyes and black hair.
However, unlike his previous self, Kid!Loki doesn't like the idea of becoming his old self. He struggles with his morality even though everyone expects the worse of him. Sometimes, he uses these low expectations to his advantage and calls its his special power. This conflicted Loki was a major influence on Tom Hiddleston's portrayal and they published a fan letter from him in Kid!Loki's last issue.
2. Sif
When Kid!Loki left, so did its writer, Kieron Gillen. They both went onto Young Avengers and Journey into Mystery was taken over by Kathryn Immonen. Instead of focusing on Loki and Thor, it was now about Sif. At first, I wasn't sure about the characterization. Then, I read more and it was absolutely perfect. She was strong. She was loyal. She had tenderness. She could hold a toddler on horseback and cleave a dozen enemies in the same issue.
It was awesome.
"I’m also thrilled to have been able to write Sif as a fierce warrior and a lovable dork. I hope she finds a new home somewhere with a lot of things to say and a lot of things to kill."
-Kathryn Immonen
I'm really happy that the Whedons gave it a shout-out especially since it's no longer published.
