Dreamwidth

Putin and other shadiness has me a little scared for my journal. I have eight years and a lot of entries invest here which I don't want to lose which means
I think it's time that
I have to get a Dreamwidth
That is the best way to backup LJ, right?
So, how do I do that?
Can I still post here and have it automatically backed up there?
Do I have to have that crossposted tag at the bottom?

Date: 2014-05-21 02:16 am (UTC)Importing your LJ entires isn't as instaneous as simply signing up for Dreamwidth, though this from their FAQ describes how to import pretty good and who to go to if you run into problem importing your entries (and no, your LJ entries will not be erased from your LJ when you import them).

Date: 2014-05-21 02:33 am (UTC)It's easier, if you want to automatically back up every time you make a new entry, to post on DW and crosspost to LJ; it will do that automatically, as long as you set your account up and enter your LJ info. And, no, you don't have to have that "crossposted" tag at the bottom; you can set your preferences so that isn't there, or so it says something different. I've just deleted that so mine doesn't say anything when I crosspost, so theoretically, you shouldn't be able to tell when I post there vs posting here. The biggest stumbling block for me is that I've got a paid account (and extra icons) here, but not there, so my icons don't always match my post (they have to be called exactly the same thing between the two sites), but that's not a deal-breaker for me, usually.
