However, there are those who are speaking out and telling the world that all Christians do not side with Hobby Lobby. Some of us are more progressive than that.

I try to find hope in the Bible...
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you".
But that's kind of hard because it and other passages make it sound like it's never getting better until we're all dead...
So I tend to go with Samwise Gamgee:
Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.

Date: 2014-07-01 02:52 am (UTC)Me, too, none of us want to live in a theocracy and it's wrong to force a country into being one; no different than the Isus or the Boko Harem.
I read the Quran a few years ago to find out the truth about what it said or didn't. I found that the worst rules on society were taken from the Old Testament itself whereas in between the Old Testament hatred were progressive ideas like:
1. "Say, "O disbelievers, "
2. "I worship not that which you worship,"
3. "Nor will you worship that which I worship."
4. "And I shall not worship that which you are worshiping."
5. "Nor will you worship that which I worship."
6. "To you be your religion, and to me my religion."
The religious radicals whether they be Christian, Muslim, Jewish or whoever ruin it for everyone.

I almost wish they'd come to me, my favourite line to people like that is: I thought this was about doing good by being selfless, not by shouting out IM DOING GOOD FOR GOD LOOK AT ME)

Besides, Leviticus also says we can't eat shellfish or put barrettes or ribbons in our hair or a million other stupid things...
That's exactly what the companies want now although I'm not sure indentured servant is the right term since they were free to go after seven years with skills, references and usually a bit of money to start somewhere. This is more like a form of slavery.
I've never seen their job application, does it ask for religious affiliation and everything?

I don't know where in it but there's a direct line from Jesus about no matter what your children do you are to love and care for them.
Thought it also said that after X amount of years debts were to be forgiven, love to see the bank owners with that one.
I don't remember but it's really sort of 'you must be like this' and I don't think they can legally ask your religious affiliation, but I felt less scrutinized with an FBI background check to be a substitute teacher, it was kind of scary how militant it felt
I didn't apply

Date: 2014-07-01 09:07 pm (UTC)I mean, it's been over a year (since mArch 31 2013) that abortion has been 100% reimbursable by the French Social Security. As for contarceptives in general, most of them are reimbursable at 65% by the State (and most people has additional insurance that covers the rest), with the main exception being certain types of oral pills because of "unproven efficiency and common thrombolic side effects". The state doesn' reimburse meds that don't work, as a rule. And now you know more about female reproductive health and the French helathcare system than you ever wanted to know, I wager.

Hell, there's a program in my state that allows people to get really nice homes and have a few years before they start paying on their mortgage, except you have QUALIFY for the big loans anyway, which is impossible with the cap on earnings to qualify.
If I could qualify for the big loan for a house anyway, I wouldn't need the program

I too consider myself a Christian, but, I don't bother too much with organized religion these days; can't abide some of the un-Christ-like Christians I have to deal with. Unfortunately, it's that face of Christianity that gets the most public exposure.
