I'm past the burst into tears phase. Seeing all the posts about doing more, getting involved, and it's been both inspiring and has led to a question:

Is anyone linkspamming for the resistance yet?
Do we have a community on DW or a rallying blog on tumblr or something for folks in fandom to organize around?

Because, fandom, we are incredible organizers. I know we're split among platforms right now, and instead of individual posts on individual journals - which are great - I think we can get some good traction by responding in the fandom way. By that I mean, in addition to links to charities and what you can do, setting up things like a [community profile] snowflake_challenge  type thing where for 15 days there's one thing to do for folks who need that extra push to get involved. We can set up help_america type auctions akin to those for disaster relief. We can have a monthly challenge of some sort. I need help brainstorming!

Because the other thing is, we are stuck with Trump for a minimum of 4 years. It could be 8. (*pleasenopleaseno butitcouldtotallyhappen andevenifTrumpquitsearly wedstillhavetolivewithPencewhoisterribletoo*) Think about that. 4 years. I know myself and I know how long my stamina lasts for being active in things because life does go on, other things come up, and I'm all good intentions until it's six months later and I still haven't donated the money because I never got that kick in the pants to just do it right now, or set up a monthly donation. Let's give ourselves a space to keep motivated. Because it's 4 to 8 fucking years.

If someone's already doing linkspamming or started a community - let me know! If not, here's your call to action:

1) Spread this post!
2) brainstorm ideas for a community title. Here are a couple to get you started
help_america
america_helps
nevergiveup_neversurrender
be_excellent_to_each_other (I watched Bill and Ted a couple weeks ago)
3) let me now if you want to help mod -- essential because I know I won't be able to keep this up on my own. Also essential for spreading beyond DW
4) send links or links to other people links (lists of things to do, where to donate, inspiration, articles, personal stories, anything else)
5) brainstorm ideas for things to do that will help our community get involved and stay involved, in whatever capacity they can

Let's do this.

You know, I've been through a lot of Presidential elections, and win or lose, I always at least gave the new President a chance before saying anything. President Obama and former Sec. Clinton have both called on the American people to try to come together during this transition period.

I also have to say that people aren't making their case by massive destruction of properties and businesses in their own neighborhoods (or by bussing to other people's neighborhoods and doing that). It is one thing to use your Constitutional right to peaceful assembly and free speech, but quite another for some of these people to foment violent rebellion! Certainly all the shootings and destruction are not helping your cause, rather they are reinforcing the attitudes that others may have of you. Not you personally, but these violent people are giving people like you, people who are upset but want to find a positive way, a bad name.

I can appreciate your passion, your idealism! So get involved, help your own communities be better places for people to live as you are trying to do here. Love your country! Channel it as you are, and please, please, discourage people from getting violent.

A 'linkspam' is a post that consists of a lot of links that the poster finds interesting. The amount of commentary on each link varies. Some people focus on one or two topics, but other people link a lot of very different things.

In this case, the idea would be to collect and post links about US politics, opportunities for action, and so on.

So the original poster decided to put it on DreamWidth which I don't really check so I'm going to keep it in my open tabs and check it daily or so.

I haven't been that way. I don't really remember the Reagans. I liked Barbara Bush and Millie but George always seemed to be making a mess of things or lying or throwing up on the Japanese Prime Minister. I thought Clinton would be different with his playing Saxophone on Arsenio and all but...he ended up being worse. Then, everyone said George W. Bush would be our worst president ever and I was a die-hard Democrat by then so I believed them. I never gave him a chance. I hated everything he did just because it was him...
Then, I saw him and Jeb in person in the back of their limo and...they looked so old and tired and I felt sorry for them...
but then Bush won instead of Kerry and I hated him again until Obama was inaugurated.
Now I tend to think of George W. Bush as that sad, tired old man in the back of the limo.

So I'm hopeful that Trump won't be our last president ever or cause the complete ruin of this country but...
I know how other people can be in that mental state of freaking out and hatred just because...because I was there once.

Yes, the violence is horrible but again, I can understand that, too. "A riot is the language of the unheard" and these people feel unheard...especially those so frustrated that they didn't even vote!
However, the apparent fact that it's Hillary supporters being the most destructive and bigoted is the most maddening...even though it's showing to everyone what those in the Democratic Party who didn't support Hillary had to deal with.
On the other hand, free speech does have to be supported and Broadway shows should be expected to say how they feel during the proper situations, like curtain calls.

Thank you, I'm trying to do my part.
