Tobey Maguire
I forgot how much older Tobey is than me...7 years. However, his Peter, being 17 to my 19, was the closest any Peter will be to my own age and there's something neat about that. I've also been a fan of Kirsten Dunst since 1994 and you have Bruce Campbell...
It was nice and then it ended and I was pissed. They hired a new Peter Parker...Andrew Garfield. My mom and I were both prepared to hate him, but he was well-spoken and "woke" and said things like, “What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking! … So why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?”
Even though the scripts sucked and my mom hated Sally Field as Aunt May, we couldn't help falling for Andrew Garfield. I'd already been a fan of Emma Stone, too. I didn't totally hate Sally Field, but I really enjoyed Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XD and the idea of a much younger Aunt May...
So, they fired Andrew Garfield, too...
At this point, I had no interest in having Peter Parker if they were just going to recast him every five years anyway. I knew about Mayday and Ben Parker...the canon comic children of Peter and Mary Jane and it looked like we were never ever going to get them which pissed me off more. I want family dynamics, dammit! I want parents having to deal with being superpowered and/or superheroes while their child/ren are dealing with the same! If I can't have that, at least give me Miles Morales, not just a Peter who never really changes beyond high school/college.
Okay, I was impressed by Tom Holland's gymnastic talent and that he looked the most like a dorky real teenager. Zendaya's MJ was definitely the most like me and also had that April Ludgate quality I love. I finally got that younger Aunt May. Of course, for once, we finally got everything all connected the way they are in the comics, too.
So, I admit that Tom is probably the best Peter Parker and Tobey will always be special, but I don't think I have a favorite although I did want to hug Andrew and join in on, But you're AMAZING...
