In the past, Americans were legally able to watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special anywhere from a week later to the following September!

When do we get "A Christmas Carol"?

9 PM on Christmas!!! Just seven hours or so after Britain!!!

I'm so excited, it's Eleven and Dumbledore together!

This is very good and welcome news!! Thanks for posting it.

I was ecstatic when I heard this, too (I read it in another post) 8). I didn't know about the time it would air, though, so thanks :]! Hopefully, BBC America will be just as accommodating with S6.

Oh, I know!

And I hate how we have different holidays so BBCA will skip a week which means we might be 3-4 weeks behind by the end of the season!

This is the only way to really combat piracy.

Me too. It's extremely annoying :/.

I totally agree with you. *Nods*

Yeah :)? I'll have to see what I can do about that 8).

I noticed in a reply to someone else's comment, you mentioned Being Human. I had no idea you watched that, but I'm a big fan of it, too :]. I was totally blown away by that twist at the end of the season finale. My reaction was, "WTF =/!? What's he doing back =\!?" I'm very curious about what the writers are going to do with him next season 8).

Oh, I hope that turns out because I really didn't want him back. I found it disappointing.

I love the four of them though: George, Nina, Mitchell and Annie. It should be really interesting to get Annie back. I hope they have a short film before the season again.

To not be real, or what Daisy and the other vampire did doesn't work, you mean :]? I actually thought it was a great twist—totally unexpected. But I understand where you're coming from, too. I'm guessing you're of the mind that the subplot with Herrick was pretty much finished up when George killed him in the S1 finale? If so, I get what you mean. Assuming he sticks around for S3, hopefully, the writers will come up with another good way to use him, rather than just recycle the two functions he had in S1: as sort of a tempter to get Mitchell to return to his murderous ways (though you could conceivably say that happened briefly when he went on a killing rampage with Daisy after learning about Lucy's treachery), and the whole subplot of convincing some humans to become vampires, while using the rest of them as a food source, so to speak.

I do, too :). I'm really glad they kept Nina alive and made her a main character (I presume that's what she'll be come S3). I think she bothered some people, but I liked her. The whole subplot of her and George trying to establish a relationship was very interesting, I thought. I'm happy they resurrected that 8). The additional difficulty that both of them are now werewolves should add an interesting facet to that subplot, too :).
It should be really interesting to get Annie back.
Yes, I'm wondering how they'll bring her back, too, or if that will even be part of S3. I hope it will :).

One more thing. I don't know how interested you'll be, given that you didn't like the fact that the writers brought Herrick back, but I posted the first part of a new crossover fic involving this, True Blood (which I'm not sure you even watch), and Angel, if you want to check it out. I'd love to see what you think, but I'll understand if it doesn't appeal to you :]. If you do read it, feel free to tell me if something about the way I wrote the characters from Angel isn't true to the show. The reason I say that is I missed some episodes of it on both this viewing and the previous one (it's now a permanent part of TNT's regular late night schedule, so this will be the second time I've watched it), so I probably don't "know" the characters as well as you do :].

Ooh, that could be nice...that they brought him back wrong.

I'm guessing you're of the mind that the subplot with Herrick was pretty much finished up when George killed him in the S1 finale?
Yes! It's like the Master in Buffy, main villain in the first season but never heard of again except for the psychological after-effects.

Oh, I know spoilers for season 3.

I don't do True Blood. I suppose it could be one those things where you have to watch four or five episodes to really get hooked on it. I saw a couple of the early episodes which were meh and an episode from last season that wasn't too bad during HBO previews or the 101 Channel. Some of the descriptions of the episodes are a little frightening though. I'm not one for horror, Being Human is about my limit.

Yeah, I don't mind reading your stuff.

That would be interesting, I agree :].

Gotcha. I just started watching Buffy on TV, BTW ;). One of the satellite channels my parents have is this one called "Chiller". It basically specializes in horror TV shows and movies. Anyway, it started showing Buffy earlier this month, and naturally, I decided to tune into it. Right now, it's on the storyline about the aftermath of Buffy & Angel's first sexual tryst, so I've been seeing a lot of Angelus lately. He is one scary guy =/! *trembles* I'm liking the show so far, and have developed quite the affection for Willow, Xander, and Giles (who seems like an older version of Wesley, or rather, who Wesley seemed to be modeled after, at least in the first couple of seasons of Angel). I like Buffy a lot, too, but those three are my favorites so far :].

You do =)?! Oh, please, do tell (As long as they aren't huge ones, that is. I like to be a little surprised ;)) 8)!

I figured you hadn't seen much of True Blood :].
I suppose it could be one those things where you have to watch four or five episodes to really get hooked on it.
Yes, it's definitely one of those shows that takes a few episodes before you get hooked on it. My parents and I, especially my mom, weren't particularly impressed with the pilot episode, but we got pulled in eventually, and now, when new episodes are airing in the summer, we make sure to catch it.
I'm not one for horror, Being Human is about my limit.
It can be pretty bloody and gory at times, yeah. The books are good, though (the source material for the show is a series written by an author named Charlaine Harris). You might enjoy those :].

Cool. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think :).

Yeah, Logo had Buffy first...they started showing it last spring after a long hiatus from tv and then, Chiller has been showing it in the past month or so.

Ooh, the second and third seasons are my favorites. Wesley was patterned after Giles. When he first arrives, he's sort of what Giles was supposed to be in terms of watcher training which illustrates how far Giles has deviated from that path. Wesley even mentions when they ask if he's fought vampires before, "Yes, under controlled conditions, of course."

The key to Wesley is that while Giles had that "Ripper" period of adolescent rebellion, Wesley was so afraid of his father that he never had that. He's not able to have that until "Angel".

We will have a new creature, species, whatever you'd like to call it. Annie plays just a big a part as she always have, or at least that's what they're claiming.

Also, "We discover that the vampires have been doing something secret and staggeringly cruel to werewolves for decades."

January, let's see if I wait or cave into pressure this time.

I've heard of the books and they're supposed to be good but I'm always wary, and more so after Twilight. To me, Rice and Shan are the pinnacle of vampire literature and even they had their problems at times.

I remember :]. I really wish I could have watched it then, but that's one of the satellite channels my parents don't get :/. I'm getting my chance to watch it now, though, so it's all good 8).
Ooh, the second and third seasons are my favorites.
Yeah :]? Much as Angelus creeps me out, I'm enjoying these episodes a lot (I saw "Passion" and "Killed By Death" today. I really liked the first of the two.) :). And having Spike & Drusilla around just makes them even better ;).
Wesley was patterned after Giles.
Was he? Well, there you go :]. Interestingly enough, he's one of my favorite characters in Angel 8]. There must be a pattern at work here, hehe 8). Ah, so they're basically contrasts for each other (I assume Giles is still around when Wesley first comes on the scene)? Interesting :].
The key to Wesley is that while Giles had that "Ripper" period of adolescent rebellion, Wesley was so afraid of his father that he never had that.
I caught the reference to that in "Halloween". *Nods* Do we find out more about that later on in the series, or no? The reason I'm curious is the first thing I thought of after hearing that was Jack The Ripper. Twisted, I know, but it's what popped into my head :}. With that idea planted in my brain, I thought of an entire backstory that gives Giles this whole "More than what he seems" quality, similar to us finding out that Miss Calendar was a member of the gypsy clan whose wrath Angel incited when he killed the favorite daughter.

Ooh, really =)? Hmmm..., I wonder what it could be? About Annie: that's good to hear. I wonder if that means she'll already have been rescued from the other side when S3 starts.
"We discover that the vampires have been doing something secret and staggeringly cruel to werewolves for decades."
Now this sounds particularly interesting. I thought what Lucy and Kemp were doing was horrible, but it sounds like this might be even worse =[! Ugh, it's going to be so hard to wait =\!

Perfectly understandable :]. Even though I've seen the movies, I haven't yet read the books, and honestly, don't think I'll ever want to. I haven't read any Anne Rice yet, either, I'm embarrassed to say :}. The best way I can describe the Sookie Stackhouse series to you is it's like Twilight for adults (and a whole lot better than those novels, though that might just be my somewhat anti-Twilight side talking :}) with a substantial dose of mystery story thrown in.

Oh no, you saw nothing in between Halloween and the Angel becoming Angelus?

*face palm*

The "Ripper" episode was an episode or two after Halloween. It's "The Dark Age". You really should hunt that down online. Amazon has a Video On Demand where you can watch an episode for just a dollar each. I think this would be totally worth it especially to help your characterization of Giles. He is NOT a staid, laid-back gentleman.

Even though I've seen the movies, I haven't yet read the books, and honestly, don't think I'll ever want to.
?

Early Anne Rice is pretty good. The two I always recommend are Blood and Gold and Pandora because they have more of what I love best about her work: the historical backgrounds of the characters and how that affects things and how they experience history and one of the best vampire romances ever.

On the other hand, I really Darren Shan's Cirque du Freak books because not only does he do a lot of reinventing of vampires but it also gets into deep philosophical discussions about free will.

Twilight is bad, but I feel no remorse in saying that because I read them all so I know from first-hand experience. The movies appear to be better.

I didn't.

Is that so? Interesting 8). That's the one it is? Rats :/. There was a Buffy marathon during the Thanksgiving weekend, and that's one of the episodes they showed. I wanted to see it, since I'd missed it, but I wasn't able to watch it :[. I'll look into that, thanks :).

I'll see if I can find those. Thanks for the recommendations :]!

Oh yeah? Sounds interesting 8)!
Ah, you ended up not liking them, huh? Okay, good :]. I try to be careful about Twilight-dissing, no matter how polite or respectful it is, because there's always the chance the person I'm "talking" to is a fan. I liked the movie enough (I still have yet to see New Moon), but it didn't really make we want to run out and buy/borrow the book(s). I'll probably watch the three remaining movies, but like I said in my previous reply, it's highly unlikely I'll read the novels.

I actually read the whole series in order to read the fourth one...not necessary but I wanted to be thorough. I had this co-worker who was a die-hard fan who called the fourth one "an abomination" which naturally made me want to read it. It didn't disappoint: that was one of the most hilarious novels I ever read. It just became more and more ridiculous.

Also, about Cirque du Freak, this is how JK Rowling described them: "Fast paced and compelling, full of satisfying macabre touches -- Cirque du Freak explores the powerful fascination of the dangerous and unnatural and also, movingly, the obligations of friendship."

Yeah? I understand that :). I'm the same way. If a book is part of a series, I usually try to read the ones that precede it first, then that one. If I enjoy it enough, I usually read the ones that follow it.

Yay! This is a smart move on BBC/BBCAs part. Hey I can wait a few hours to watch which means tthey will get more people watching. But make me wait months in this age of instant communicaiton and I will invariably look for the episode on-line -cause I want to be part of the fun.

After all, is 2010 and its time for the BBC to stop pretending that they have to send a film canaster across the ocean on the Queen Mary.

Exactly!

Now if we can get Being Human season 3 faster than we got season 2, I'll be a very happy girl.

I'd include season 3 of Merlin but SciFi/Syfy is just hopeless...
