http://www.cbsnews.com/sunday-morning/

I watch CBS Sunday Morning every week. Some weeks, I wonder why I bother but some weeks are filled with good stuff, like today.

They had a segment about the drug cartels paying off border patrol officers to let in drugs and illegal immigrants to the country which we've known about for years...but now the drug cartels are starting to team up with people like...al-Qaeda.It points to one inevitable conclusion...at some point, we will going to war against the drug cartels. Now, if that's going to happen anyway...why not try something totally unexpected like legalization and taxation?

They had a very awesome segment about Nick Vujicic. I especially liked how he described his suicide attempt at age ten. It was like a "It gets better" video except the bullying was about his disability. Honestly, we've all been bullied at some point and most of us get past it. The important thing is that you're not alone and you HAVE to talk to someone about it. It festers inside when you don't tell anyone what you're feeling.

He's so cute and funny and upbeat that you totally forget that he wasn't born with limbs.

Scarlett Johansson interview!!!

I liked her before Marvel hired her so I love this. When the announcer said how she had two and a half more months on Broadway, I had to restrain myself from yelling, "And then WINTER SOLDIER!"
Then, when he said how her next project was reprising Black Widow in the Captain America sequel, I did correct him, "Captain America: Winter Soldier!"

However, as much as I love her, as much as she's a talented actress...I can't abide her southern accent. It's just...wrong. It's like when Alex Kingston or Burn Gorman do an American accent. Just...no.

Also, it's probably sad but when they were showing random file footage, I knew it was from The Avengers premiere; not from her dress or the posters behind her, but from the Harley Davidson...

P.S. Tim Minchin is on Californication!

Aunt May

So, I was watching Ultimate Spider-Man, it was the "Attack of the Beetle" episode. I love this episode so very, very much but the first two times I saw it basically consisted of non-stop squee. Squee isn't very conducive to character study and the little character study I had done was Coulson related between the year at cooking school and the only agent to take down the Beetle and his owning what looks like a cartoon interpretation of a blue '55 T-Bird...so nice...

Today, I paid attention to Aunt May and well...

First of all, it's all from Peter's perspective so we're very limited, but...

1. Coulson talks several times about how interesting May is.
2. May seems to be gone an awful lot...
3. We don't get to hear a lot of what May and Phil are actually talking about.
4. And most important...May is able to get out of her own kidnapping, remove her restraints AND FIRE a fighter plane.

Again...

Aunt May used a fighter plane to rescue Coulson and Spider-Man. Then, she LIED. She said, "Oh, I must have hit the wrong button" but she was doing that twinkling eye thing like when a character is lying. She knew exactly which button to hit and when.

What if Aunt May had her own secrets? What if she was some sort of agent or a founding member of SWORD or something? What if Coulson knows all of this but is keeping it secret from Peter just like he's keeping Peter's secret from May? What if all of May's trips and mountain climbing and such are actually cover stories for continuing her activities? I mean, we know Peter's parents were involved in things and Marvel has a habit of making parents secretly involved in SHIELD or whatever...think Tony Stark and Reed Richards...

I know I should just be happy in season two to even have Aunt May and maybe even have her still going out on dates with Phil but...

I REALLY WANT MAY TO BE A SECRET AGENT OR SOMETHING!

Can we at least have this happen in fanfiction?

I think this seems to show both sides of the issue. Most importantly, that screaming guy scares me. He scares my mom. When you want a reason why people want to ban guns other than the children dying every day, THAT GUY IS WHY! He's like the weirdos that made everyone hate the Tea Party before there were any other logical reasons.

No, I don't want to take away your guns. As long as you are a responsible gun owner who took the training, learned how to care for them and keep them locked in a gun safe whenever they're not in use, I see no reason why you can't keep your handgun or rifle.

However, there is a term called "friendly fire". It's when the best trained people in the world with some of the best equipment in the world...still fuck up and shoot the wrong person. Now, if that's what we get from the best trained people in the world...I don't believe that civilians should have the same access to the same equipment. I don't even see the necessity of civilian Humvees aka Hummers.

I think if you need a semi-automatic assault rifle with a high capacity magazine, THEN YOU SUCK AS A HUNTER! If you honestly think it makes things more fun, take up archery. You can still maim and kill animals with a bow and arrow but you don't hear too many stories about people killing people with them.

United States Elementary School Attacked 26 Dead
China Elementary School Attacked 23 injured, None Dead

What was the difference? He couldn't get a gun. People will always make stupid decisions, do we really need to make the fatal outcomes easier in those circumstances?

Yes, we need better background checks for EVERY gun sale; no more loopholes. Yes, by better background checks, I mean they all need to go through the FBI as opposed to Florida admitting that it only did in-state background checks. I also think that people who buys guns for felons and those using them in a crime should be prosecuted at least as bad as if you bought a minor alcohol.

Yes, we should make mental healthcare easier and cheaper to receive. We shouldn't stigmatize or make fun of people for needing help...

BUT I don't agree with a "national database of crazy people". How are we going to define who is too mentally imbalanced? Are they on the list for life or taken off after a period of years of successful therapy and medication? More importantly, WHO HAS ACCESS TO THE LIST?

I know, those selling the guns have access to the list BUT wouldn't corporations buy their way into having access, too? Then, the list would simply be another tool to use for NOT hiring people!

When people are unemployed, they have no consistent healthcare coverage, no mental healthcare and are more likely to do destructive life decisions like suicide or these large scale massacres.

A lot of people don't understand this but then...they'd never failed Walmart's Psych test.

The main thing is that we can't just do nothing or else the next time something happens...people will be out for blood and your guns.

Legos

We saw the cutest Lego today!

Photobucket

See, it's Nick Fury but he's all wittle and adorable! It was definitely an Ultimate Spider-Man set so we got really excited when we spotted a suited figure. Alas...

Photobucket

Yep, it's J. Jonah Jameson. I was totally disappointed and my mom's response was, "I don't know who that is."

"Exactly."

I really want a Lego Coulson and I'd put him with my Lego Norrington. They would discuss life and being impaled and having fan petitions to bring them back to life but then, Coulson would mention that his worked and how it turned out to be a LMD all along...

This is relevant to my fellow Bones people. I usually spend every episode wondering why I still watch but tonight's episode had an Angela subplot and I love her.

These are by John Singer Sargent in 1882 and 1884.

Angela was right. He's amazing and I can definitely imagine spending twenty minutes on one painting. I now want to see one in person.
