This might have spoilers that include the final episode.
I didn't recognize Rusty on the radio.
(shrugs)
There's something very sad about Gwen having to resort to a smash and grab. Then, I thought about how it was kind of interesting...wouldn't this sort of thing become even more common so there would be precautions?
I don't know about elsewhere, but here in Florida, it's so common that pharmacies tend to have concrete barriers in front of the doors and windows positioned differently.
Now, at first it's mentioned that there is opposition to their "camps" but then Gwen and Rhys claim that everyone gave up to take care of their own...
Whatever.
You seriously expect me to think that those descended from the Nisei and the Holocaust victims and everyone else who has suffered under assholes are going to be OKAY with THIS?
I don't think so especially these "home visitations". Are you fucking kidding me?
Okay, I loved this...one of the things I've always wanted to see since the very first episode was...Jack all scruffy!!!
Now, we FINALLY get Jack scruffy!
YAY!!!!!
He and Esther are so cute...but I got a little upset between Jack saying his blood wasn't special and Esther being all...awesome...
Wow, how incompetent do they think the CIA is? Now, I haven't had first-hand experience with them but I have with the FBI, Secret Service and Bomb Squad and they are definitely NOT incompetent so why wouldn't they notice that Charlotte acts totally suspicious? It's not even suspicious in a sneaky way. It's suspicious in more of a Snidely Whiplash, twirling my mustache in the corner, having all these weird questions, having weird pauses and being way too nosy to make sense suspicious. She might as well wear a shirt saying, HI, I'm a Mole! Ask me how!
Come on Rex, ask for a COPY of those freaking DNA non-results...
Sadly, I did forget this for about two seconds due to us finding out she had a girlfriend. Yay, lesbian! Oh...right...evil...
So, let's see if we can determine this pattern from all 41 Torchwood episodes:
If you are a gay man, all your relationships will end horribly and you can never be truly happy.
If you are a lesbian, then you are either evil and/or sadistic.
Wow, way to go from a series created by a gay individual!
I'm guessing Rusty has issues...
Yes, Rex, you COULD try walking to work or carpooling or biking or some alternative means of transportation...you know...take one for the team?
It does make sense that someone would have written about Jack in fictionalized form especially if he seems to have slept with half the writers anyway... Proust?
Rhys got to be awesome...so naturally, I thought he would be a goner but I guess that would still be raping Snow White...
*fingers crossed*
Still, I loved him with the skillet and figuring out the Shanghai/Buenos Aires connection...
Damn, Jack shaved...or did Esther do it for him?
*imagines*
I honestly don't remember the guy they said they retconned before or were they lying?
So, did the Families really, REALLY love the Deathly Hallows? Since the Three use the triangle like the cloak and PhiCorp is the circle with the straight line like the resurrection stone and the Elder Wand?
Oh, it supposedly predates DH...hmm, was JK's first husband one of the family and this was her way of trying to foil their plans?
I almost expected giant vagina to have teeth...
Was anyone else reminded of how they described the time vortex that the Master looked into? How it could drive you mad?
Also, how FREAKING BIG is the Earth that it could Silurians, the Rachnoss thing and THIS INSIDE IT???
I'm kind of wondering whether the blood switch actually happened during this episode because Rex grimaces around Esther but then again, he grimaces in pain a lot through the whole series.
(shrugs)
Also, I almost expected Jack's little blood droplet to yell out in a tiny voice, Follow Me!!!
Woohoo, Ringer's on and Ioan's being all cute and British...

Date: 2011-09-14 02:15 am (UTC)The circle with the line is the greek letter phi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phi
The triangle I guess was a symbol of the three of them working together but I do agree the overall look is a bit - Hey guys, Deathly Hallows was released this summer make a more distinct logo next time.
Oh the vag, I was hoping for a Jack swan dive into it but it would've had too much heterosexual connotations I guess. But just the image of it would have been so meme-able for like -EVER-
We thought the blood drops were funny and named them in a Barrowman impression...
Rhys was awesome and if they kill him I will be terribly upset. I've been all why aren't they just like he is Torchwood adjunct employee by now or something. Except I am a fan of teen titans and note that maybe he is being genre saavy like some of my favourite teen heroes who appeared to notice Titans or in this case Torchwood dies young and by avoiding being called it officially break the trend and survive!
(What is the snow white thing?)
As for the smash and grab, I'm Canadian and can say without a doubt it depends on where the pharmacy is and what they tend to stock. Methadone clinics etc.. are often well locked up and secured because they are often in low-income/ ghetto-ized neighbourhoods because those are the only places willing to zone them and as such they need all the security they can get because smash and grab attempts are more likely.
In rural or middle-upper class residential areas security varies but is often pretty lax/ average for any kind of store. With Cardiff being an old enough place with roots in having once been rural depending on where she hits it might have the mom and pop style of "our door has a lock and the cupboards with the drugs are locked too" style of security and maybe a "we have a cctv camera outside and a security cam inside" which Gwen could mess with, Torchwood played with surveillance often enough.
Now, I could ALMOST see the mom and pop pharmacies NOT adding precautions after Miracle Day with a noble sense of 'we lost our aunt uncle etc..' too approach and deciding to bite the bullet and let people get what they can steal from their store because they can't legitimately sell it to them without it pinging on the cops who do the visits.
I would have loved some moment like that in the episode to show that while they couldn't shut down the camps people were making small rebellions while desperately trying to find their equilibrium with what happened.

Date: 2011-09-23 05:54 pm (UTC)Speaking of Gwen, she is quite unusual along your characters, in that she's not missing anything in her life. Most of your main characters have suffered some loss, or are searching for something. Was that a deliberate challenge for yourself - to create someone who is content but still interesting?
I think bringing Rhys in to it more and more has really helped to complete her world, and it's something we've developed every year. There have been a couple of times when we've nearly killed him, then decided not to, which has been brilliant, and totally the right decision in the end. Frankly, Rhys IS very killable, because it would put Gwen through so much dramatically, but eventually you realise what you've got and as a colleague of mine who worked on soap opera used to say: 'You don't rape Snow White.' In other words, you shouldn't punish your central characters to the point where they become the walking wounded.

I always forget that he's gay, and it sort of surprises me. I have absolutely no problems with homosexuality, but I don;t like how he writes it, mainly because I think if certain gay friends of mine saw how he portrays it, they'd be very, very uncomfortable.

Date: 2011-09-14 07:13 am (UTC)This was my problem with CoE too, when they had ordinary every day soldiers smashing down peoples doors and carrying their screaming children away, in England.
I think Russel T has no idea what motivates people, Really.
