New Year's Eve

I know it's really late to finally get around to New Year's Eve especially when I saw it opening day but...it has been a bit crazy up until now.
I basically wanted to see it for the Zac Efron/Michelle Pfeiffer subplot and they were just as adorable as I expected. I'm a sucker for romantic comedies that aren't completely stupid and this did have a surprise or two...namely, an over-controlling mother who I thought for SURE was Kristen Wiig but it wasn't but it was totally her kind of role.
My main disappointment, and my mom's as well, is that white people hooked up with white people. Black people hooked up with black people. Homosexuals, despite being NEW YORK, didn't seem to exist. Now that I've seen Valentine's Day, this seems even more strange.
Now, back to my favorite part, Zac Efron takes Michelle Pfeiffer on a tour of New York, including a location from Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick.
Selznick describes a museum in the Bronx having a diorama of all of New York and all to scale. It sounded too fantastical to be true despite my experience with his previous book.
This diorama is IN New Year's Eve. My mouth dropped completely open and I couldn't help exclaiming aloud, "It's REAL."
I just love seeing a book literally come to life in front of you. It's amazing.
The film comes out on dvd on May 1.
