Last night, we saw Snow White and the Huntsman. Also, I told her about the Green Lantern and she replied, Maybe that's why the movie bombed? People didn't believe the love interest and thought he was repressing his true nature?

Either way, I now renounce my usual reboot rules and want a reboot movie where he's gay.

Also, we were disappointed at getting Dark Knight Rising trailer. I know that's a weird sentence. Obviously, we will be seeing the film. It has Christian Bale and an awesome cast BUT we didn't like the last one that well and this seems even darker. My mom is very concerned that they might do something like kill him off. I'm sure DC must be kicking themselves that they're losing Christian Bale when it's now clear that they should have been working up to a Justice League movie all along...

Because a Justice League movie without Christian Bale is like an Avengers movie without Robert Downey, Jr which I know will happen in the next 7-10 years but LALALALALALALALA, I'm NOT listening!

However, the main disappointment is that I wanted her to see the Bourne Legacy trailer the way it's meant to be seen and they had Batman instead. :(
So, I had to just show her the trailer on the computer. Mom and I have been fans of Renner for a couple of years now ever since The Hurt Locker.
"WOAH"

That Rachel Weisz is a lucky, lucky woman...make out with people like Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston during the day, come home to James Bond...
I know, she worked hard to get here and she's a great sctress but still...wow

Anyway, onto Snow White and the Huntsman

Can I say how I was basically in love with this movie as soon as the narrator told us that everyone loved her for her spirit as much as her looks?

I could have been shown that a little more but I liked that idea. Usually, Snow White has to mature and grow into a defiant spirit if at all. Snow White on Once Upon a Time was the closest to that idea that I could think of before now and even then...

I admit that it did develop problems. It was less than perfect but I still really liked it and about halfway through, I wanted a book, possibly a series all about the kingdom and its inhabitants.

Attention all fictional characters, for the most part, when people are locked up in a heavily armed carriage/prison, etc...there's a REASON!

No, you go ahead and let her come with you. I'm sure no horrible results will occur, like...yep, she totally just killed you. Whoops.

Did anyone wonder whether the mirror was actually magic or it was all in her head? Because she was crazy. When you're watching the film and going, "No, Don't trust her! She's crazier than Loki!", then you know that person is freaking crazy. Bag of cats does not even begin to describe it. However, that's not to say that we didn't get backstory on her or insight into her motivations. The poor thing was brainwashed into thinking that her looks were the only thing she could offer, that could save her from poverty and death. It's like the Reba McEntire song "Fancy" only with fantasy and a grandmother forcing a spell upon her. Oh yes, Ravenna didn't choose to be this way. Someone else chose for her and eventually, she made herself believe it was for the best, that she deserved it.

Actually, one of the reasons, other than Chris Hemsworth, that my mom wanted to see it was that it was one of the first times she could remember the queen actually being beautiful. Usually, that "mirror, mirror" line is so one-sided that it borders on hilarious. This, and OUAT, makes more sense. Yes, Regina is quite pretty.

I admit that as soon as Snow White was now played by Kristen Stewart, I did get a little antsy.
"Awesome, now where's the Huntsman? Bring on Thor!"

However, there were still things on the way there that were interesting. Snow White recited the Lord's Prayer aloud.
Yes.
Now, with King Arthur, there are tons of stories from different time frames that trace the tales starting off as Pagan and becoming more and more influenced/rewritten by Christianity. With what I've read of Grimm...not so much. The classic fairy tales were generally left alone and additional fairy tales with Christian elements were added so I was very intrigued at the thought of a Christian Snow White. Then, with the exception of the Christian symbolism of the trinity and the Aslan Deer, it was basically ignored after that...
Like with Cabin in the Woods, I often felt like there was symbolism all over the place that I sometimes got and sometimes not. It was also tricky trying to decide what was from the original tales, what was from The Hero's Journey and what was from the stuff based off the original tales, like Middle Earth and Narnia...

I can't tell you how amused I was by Snow White's escape/rebirth involving the sewer system, hehe. Also, when she reached the forest and they decided not to follow her, I had the scene from The Lion King in my head. "And if you ever come back, we'll kill you!"

But unlike Scar and the hyenas, they're more honest here about not getting her...Enter the Huntsman!
Yay, drinking! It's always amusing to watch Chris Hemsworth drinking. Naturally, I was a bit worried about typecasting at this point but my fears were soon alleviated. This time, he drinks to forget and numb the pain of not being there to protect his wife who was taken away and fed to the queen. I assumed this from the start but still really enjoyed the scene between Huntsman and evil, creepy brother later. Do you think creepy brother raped the women he bought to the queen? I think it's a definite possibility...

Yes, I know the Huntsman is actually named Eric but I have a lot of feelings about that name, obviously, so I will continue with Huntsman.

Sadly, as soon as Huntsman appeared, I immediately wanted DWARVES! GIVE ME DWARVES ESPECIALLY BOB HOSKINS!

But that was a good twenty minutes or more off...
On CBS Sunday Morning, they described this film as overlong and it kind of is. My mom said she could do without "all the fighting, that stuff in the woods and some of the stuff with the queen."

Sometimes, it came off more like an old fashioned Hallmark miniseries like 10th Kingdom or Merlin.

I loved the Troll. I felt it was very inspired by del Toro. I almost expected some sort of credit.

Some time later...YAY DWARVES! Although Ian McShane and Toby Jones were a little distracting. You would think with the size and all that I would associate Jones with Dobby but nope...I kept thinking of him as Red Skull's minion and McShane as Blackbeard the Dwarf. Philip the Missionary from On Stranger Tides is the Duke's son, the childhood playmate of Snow White and the equivalent of her "prince". I liked Sam Claflin at first as the missionary but as time went on...it should have been better. Then, I see him in stuff like this and I wonder whose fault it was that he came off so bland in Pirates. Here he's shooting arrows, he's clanging swords and he looks pretty darn attractive. I still wanted Snow White with the Huntsman but at least, it didn't seem so one-sided.

Also, one of the Dwarves was all red-headed and played by Brian Gleeson and I'm like, He's related, isn't he?
Yep, Brendan Gleeson's son.

Oh gosh, the Fairy forest! THE FAIRY FOREST!
It was like Pokemon combined with Miyazaki combined with del Toro and it was AWESOME!!!!!
I could have watched that for hours. There was a moss snake and a moss turtle and butterflies that made flowers and just...ugh, wonderful.

This also bought up a very big point to me...
WHY ISN'T THERE A LIVE-ACTION POKEMON MOVIE????????????????????

Come on, being able to see them as actually REAL? How could that not be one of the most awesome things EVER?

Mom hated the fairies themselves, hehe. She also didn't like how del Toro did them. She's very specific about her fairies. They should always resemble Tinker Bell or her friends.

Then, Snow White goes off on this quest to meet someone with the Dwarves and Huntsman following her and I'm like, Aslan?

It's not, but it totally is, just being in a silent large white deer form...and with more symbolism following...

I LOVED how they did the apple scene! It made so much more sense than a peddler or any of the other ways. Also, the Huntsman got to be even more angsty. This time with CRYING! YAY!

TRUE LOVE'S KISS! I loved it! It was a bit like Enchanted but they got to milk it better here so I actually liked this version better.

By then, the whole showdown was kind of an afterthought with me...oh yeah, we still have to defeat her...

When she bought up Magnus, I was actually confused for a second.
No, Tom's not in this and he's not even in the new Wallander episodes...oh, that was the name of the king...oops.

The relationships were resolved in a way where everyone was happy and it's nice that the focus was that she was reclaiming her kingdom and not who she ended up married to. On the other hand, my mom was worried that she'd be like Elizabeth and just keep a guy on the side...

I wonder if there is fanfic already...I foresee a lot of threesome fics.

I thought I might see it because of Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Noomi Rapace but now I think I'm chickening out with it...

I still plan to see the Abraham Lincoln Vampire movie though: Dominic Cooper and Alan Tudyk, plus, directed by the same guy who did 9 and Wanted.

Apparently, it's sort of the prequel to Alien, which I liked, so maybe it won't be too bad. I just don't like gore for the sake of gore, you know? If it's not really relevant to the plot there's no reason to have it other than shock value.

I saw a trailer for the Lincoln movie tonite and I'm intrigued...

I've never actually seen any of the Alien films...

My best friend loved the book. I'm tempted to read it but I want to see the movie first so I don't get all nitpicky.
