I've just about accepted the fact that the overwhelming majority of merchandise for The Avengers will not have Phil Coulson.

However, I hate when they don't even bother to have all six. Many, many items only have the main four or only three. Still, there are quite a few items with FIVE Avengers. I give you one guess about who's left off...
All of our Justice League products are the same way; all of the male members but no Wonder Woman.

So, a family comes to my register and a toddler boy is wearing an Avengers lanyard.

Me: Does it have all of them?
The Mom: Show her your lanyard.

(I study it.)

Me: It does, including the best one!
Toddler's Sister: Who's that?
Me: Black Widow!
The Mom: She is the best!
Toddler's Sister: Because she's a girl!
Me: And she's awesome.
The Mom: She can beat all of them.

(Toddler's sister's eyes go wide and she gapes.)

Toddler's Sister: She can?

(We both nod.)

Toddler's Sister: I didn't know girls could fight.
The Mom: Girls can do anything boys can.
Toddler's Sister: Wow.

Many, many items only have the main four or only three.

I know the defense is those are the ones who had their own movies (in the case of the main four), or those are the ones with successful franchises (in the case of Tony, Cap, and Thor). It's not like the multiple attempts at a good Hulk movie have equaled a franchise. Doesn't change the fact that leaving the others out sucks.

Still, there are quite a few items with FIVE Avengers.

Which makes the sexism glaringly obvious. I mean I may love Hawkeye from the books, but his part in the movie (at least as himself) is SMALLER than Black Widow's. She should get more merchandising than him on screen time.

All of our Justice League products are the same way; all of the male members but no Wonder Woman.

I don't know who makes decisions about DC's products, but I remember how some people hoped when Disney bought Marvel that Marvel would get more girl friendly. I had to laugh. The home of the Princess Line, which bought Marvel to have "more boy appeal" make it more girl friendly? It was down right funny to me. I don't know what it will take to make the kind of change people were hoping for, but we sure aren't there yet.

Well, that's the thing...even though the Hulk doesn't have a movie franchise, he's the recognizable one so usually when it's just three, it's Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk.

Yes, especially since she had TWO movies with multiple scenes and he had about two lines in Thor.

I'm hoping Lucasfilm makes the girl thing more obvious or maybe we'll have to get them to hire Ashley Eckstein or someone as a consultant...the main thing is that Disney needs to hire more females and minorities for Marvel. It's still too much of a white guy bastion...but then Pixar isn't too good with that either.

*Thinks of how they chased away Brenda Chapman and Patty Jenkins*

Huh. I hadn't realized they were going with the Hulk over Thor. I mean sure the Hulk had two movies to Thor's one going into the Avengers, but they weren't successful like Thor's movie was. Must be at least partly due to the age of the people making the marketing decisions. They aren't just basing it on the movies. They're going with the Hulk from fond memories of the old Hulk TV series.

Yes, especially since she had TWO movies with multiple scenes and he had about two lines in Thor.

If they've been giving the third slot in the "Only Three" Club to Hulk based on who they think is most recognizable, they might not even get that Black Widow's screen time is significantly greater than Hawkeye's. *Rolls eyes.*

...the main thing is that Disney needs to hire more females and minorities for Marvel.

That sure would be nice.

Don't even get me started on that train wreck. *Shakes head.*

So, I thought maybe...MAYBE...things would improve with Captain America: The Winter Soldier...

Nah.

Now, because of the animated series Avengers Assemble, that particular merchandise is more likely to have Natasha or even all SEVEN, all six MCU Avengers & Falcon.

But it's still male dominated although there does seem to be more Hawkeye which is weird since aside from comics and animated series, we've had NOTHING from him?

I'm scared about the new live action Star Wars although the new animated show looks like they're keeping the diversity of The Clone Wars series.
